I'm a little surprised we haven't heard definitively if players like Webster or Thor are coming back or not.  I would be a somewhat surprised if either came back, but I think it would be good for the team.

I think Fred is doing 1-1 meetings with players over the next 2 weeks.

My guess is we will still have a trickle of news.

My guess is we lose 1-2 more folks.

Thor and Kobe both will be role players and probably need to decide if thats worth it.

Sounds like N is trying to weasel out of playing OU. Already contacting other teams to play in Lincoln. This program is soft as s#!t. No fear of failure my a$$.

    A joke.

The team has become a running joke nationally.

Frost has lost all national creditability.

All for playing OU, but with tOSU, Mich and Mich St as crossovers this might not be the year to play them.  This year is so important to get the win total up.  We will have more than enough opportunities to play against the big boys this year.  No need to also take on a game against OU.

Maybe we should just leave the B1G and go to the MAC if we are that worried.

Creating artificial wins doesnt help your program grow...

You keep knocking Woods and I don't get it.  He is a freshman with lots of talent that needs some time in the weight room.  When he is on the floor, which very very little its with walk-ons.

I am not knocking him I am just simply sharing what I have seen. I am not against him learning and growing into a role but the total lack of playing time is pretty telling for Wood and how he is currently viewed.

Usually when guys get this little of playing time, they bolt.

  5. I hope this post doesnt change the "focus" of what this thread is about but I actually felt like this year was a much more promising year for what Fred can do.

Talent is still an issue with this team. I have tried to watch Freds offense more closely and while I dont always love the look, it comes down to the guys not executing or guys like Teddy going rogue.

Last years team was really bad in terms of talent. This years team just has a weird mix of talent that doesnt mesh well, yet. I think if we can add actual talent to some pieces we have, we might actually get a feel for the coach Fred is.

I look at the Rutgers game as an example. The guys made plays and look what they could do.

I hope we can build a better base and not change the team out ever year, but also I get why he did it because last years team had about 60% of the talent this team has.

I think the team is tired... That being said, I do think we can beat Penn State in terms of we match up well.

I also think we can give Wisconsin a game if we make it there. Iowa is an awful matchup for us and they could easily beat us by 30 again.

Lets get 1 win and see where it takes us.

The B1G is so dang stacked this year. the top 5 teams could all make a serious run in the NCAA tournament and I would argue Michigan, Illinois and Iowa could win the whole thing.

Word is there could be as many as five scholarship guys leaving yet - not counting Teddy.  It doesn't sound like any of the starters and maybe only one that is really in the rotation.  They wouldn't say any names so that's as much info as I've seen.

I think I'm missing one but I'm not sure who:

Non-starter rotation players: Stevenson, Webster, Ouedraogo, Andre

    Others: Wood, Lakes, Arop

Wood sure seemed like he was being "patient" but it would not be a surprise to see Lakes and Arop leave.  And I could see either Stevenson or Ouedraogo (or both) leave.

Ouedraogo leaving would probably be best for all parties. I am all for giving a guy a chance to grow and get better, but he just doesnt seem to have  the required skills to be a basketball player, outside of his height.

Lakes- Maybe he could go somewhere that distributes the ball better but even when he does shoot an open 3 it looks just ok. HE doesnt have the other skills to play at this level. Its a bummer it didnt workout but he is a liability on the court.

Stevenson- Sign him up as a fullback... I honestly dont mind of Stevenson stays around because he adds some toughness but is just missing the well rounded aspects.

Webster- He has grown on me and honestly, one more year of B1G play might be good for him. Even before the game yesterday he was starting to get better at making his own shot. He is an off the bench guy, but I think 1 more year would be ok.

Wood- Maybe he shows them something in practice but when he gets in games, walk-ons have out played him.

Arop- Injuries have made this impossible to know. The bit I have seen makes me think we have better options.

Andre- This would be a huge loss. This guy has some great natural touch for a guy of his size.

Thor- I like Thor a lot and he has great moments-- I just get the feeling he is ready to move on with his life.

That all being said, if I had to guess the 5 that are leaving I would say:

Ouedraogo, Stevenson, Lakes, Wood and Thor.

  8. Teddy Allen provided that toughness, not scared to shoot attitude that was key in some games but also hurt the ability for "team" ball to happen.

For a guy who has dealt with as many issues as he has in his life, I thought he showed great toughness/poise on the court. Rarely did you see him act up or get physical.

That being said, his style of play just isnt conducive for where Fred wants to take the team.

As mentioned above, I think he will do great things in Europe. He will stick around, get his degree and then move on with life.

Curious who is next. My guess is we see at least 2 other guys move on-- My guess is Thor(graduating) and Yvan.

Which is Joe?  Which is Luke?

    QBA - 63.2%, 6.1 ypa, 103.2 rating

    QBB - 56.7%, 7.6 ypa, 124.6 rating

Both of those stat lines are not great.

But my guess is Luke is QBA.. Pretty sure he cant throw it over 7.5 yards

Two things they HAVE to change, IMO, are the QB running/run game animations and mechanics.

At some point in one of the last games, they made it so you could run fairly quickly behind the line of scrimmage while scrambling. But, the second you crossed the LOS, it was like the QB's stride became longer and the animations got out of whack. It also made the QB seem really slow in any designed run play. I like to change the playbook and build an option team sometimes and unless I had like a 95+ speed QB the option game just felt super inconsistent.

You just need to have a QB with electrifying speed

  11. Here is the thing.. The team already didnt have a win.. Not sure I can see them suddenly pulling out a win given no practice for the last 3 weeks or what not.

    Maybe they surprise us.

I have honestly forgot about the team all together at this point.

I miss that thread, several hundred pages of awesomeness. Is that the longest thread in HB history?

Did the Darnay thread ever surpass Owa?

I remember I was interning at KLIN-1400 when Owa announced... I cant remember anything else but for some reason that sticks out

The coaches and players didnt know Luke was looking to transfer.  When he didnt come back from break, they thought maybe he got covid or something.  Both coaches and players tried calling him and he wouldnt answer.   He came back, grabbed his stuff and let the coaches know his decision.

He is a 19/20 year old kid. I would hope he parents would help show him the right way/wrong way to handle something like this and not burn a bridge.

Its a maturity thing. I have seen people pull this with our organization where they leave the wrong way or throwing middle fingers on their way out(not saying luke was throwing middle fingers).

As he matures, and he realizes things, I hope he learns it is ok to leave but how you do it says loads about you.

Who knows if this is true or not, but hope he realizes that not owning up to your decisions will only hurt you long term.

    *steps off soap box.

  14. The odds of them being able to truly make up all the games are slim in my mind as other teams might have there own issues and plus it might not be wise to have a 3 week of no activities hiatus and then thrust all these kids into a "play every 3 days" situation.

    5 games postponed/

    Next games are:

    2/6

    2/8

    2/11

    2/14

    2/17

    2/20

    -------Insert game on 2/22?

    2/24

    ---Insert game on 2/26?

    2/28

    ---Insert game on 3/2

    ---insert game on 3/4

    3/7

Maybe be able to sneak 4 games in after 2/20 but then they are basically playing a game every 2 days from 2/6-3/7

mmm.  He has.  Unfortunately I played on some really bad teams in HS and in College.  I know what improvement looks like.  The defense is SOOO much better.  Statistically they might have only improved marginally but guys for the most part are playing harder and are in the right spots.  They have tackled better and have shown toughness.  Offensively they have shown flashes of what they can do when on the same page.  Unfortunately they are inconsistent.  I think the lightbulb went on for the guys on defense and that's why almost everyone is returning.  Just need that to happen with the guys on offense

I don't doubt he knows more about the situations than the rest of us, he should, it's his job. It just seems like Mike never misses an opportunity to be condescending, or flex his 'holier than thou' attitude.

I guess I havent paid that close attention to him but that could also be a situation where since this is his "thing" he likes to try and prove he knows what he is talking about. I sometimes find myself getting on my high horse about things like staffing.

Again, my thought is he feels the need to defend guys he is close with or trying to get close with.

I'm glad Mike found another opportunity to be a condescending turd. The guy routinely mocks fans for having takes on the players that he is paid to also have takes on.

I dont think he is being a condescending turd. He talks to a lot of these kids and maybe he realizes there is a lot more going on and at the end of the day they are just kids.

If it were even close to a normal 3 years, I would tend to agree.  However, the situation coming in, and the last 12 months, have made this a far from normal 3 years.  I believe Riley got a normal 3 years.  Scott has not imo.

Normal or not, he hasnt improved the team.

I am tired of the excuses for Frost. Every team had to deal with what the Huskers did.

The lack of offense or growth or ability to call plays that work instead of the same plays over and over again.

I dont think we can afford to fire Frost this year or probably even next year, but he has to approach this thing differently.

He reminds me of Bo, only hiring yes men instead of bringing in guys who can actually coach and handing off some responsibilities.

I hope he turns it around but we have seen enough out of the last 3 years to have major questions on Frost and his coaching ability.

"Nebraska's offense is the worst I've ever seen." - Kurt Warner in (semi) private conversations.  And tweeting that he'd love for his sons to play for Matt Cambell in my opinion was throwing shade at our staff.  I know Kade is his own man but we really don't need that kind of s#!t around this program right now, don't let the door hit ya on the way out.

I mean, was he really wrong?

This offense has been mostly garbage. I get maybe the players arent as talented in some spots, but Frost has basically refused to course correct and try different things to make it work.

Kurt Warner probably shouldnt be trashing his sons (former) team...

I hope Frost figures it out, but the offense has gotten worse under him. It is unimaginative and easy to stop.

  20. This is a bummer but with how this offense is set up, I just dont see Luke ever really being the guy. If we ran more option type stuff, maybe?

I am curious where Luke ends up, but he could be a fun guy to watch if the offense doesnt need him to throw over 20 yards... Not his game.

Bummed he didnt want to be used other ways or non-QB.

Frost is going to have to do a lot with this offense to get me back to believing. 3 years in and I am more concerned with his inability to create an offense that will work with what he has.

I'm fine.  I think it's hilarious how people think they know who is in or out.

Speculate, yes...that's fine.  But absolute statements in this thread are stupid....and there have been lots of them.

So you counteract that by doing the same thing?-- even if its obvious sarcasm.

My point is, that is what message boards are. A bunch of people pretending to have sources.

I dont want to de-rail this convo anymore than I have but not sure what you expect. Plenty of people who made statements earlier have been correct.
