  1. Members involved with husker basketball in any way at all are leaving left and right...this is the result of Pederson not canning Collier as he should have. This is getting out of hand and it needs to stop somewhere because it is only going to get worse...bottom line is Collier is dragging us down with him. Sad but true.

I was about to post something like this. I am not one to bash any of the coaches or AD's, but this seems completely crazy that Steve P. has kept Collier around. Coaches leaving, no other coaches not wanting to come in, players leaving the team.....Just blows my mind! Wish i knew what was going through the minds of the people making these decisions to keep Collier around.

Hey, I'll do the bashing for you. I think I posted this a about 6-7 months ago that we had to get rid of Collier earlier in order to go after a big name coach, i.e. Bob Huggins. I know the guy has had personal issues but the bottom line is he gets wins. Now once again we'll be in the bottom 4 of the Big XII.

I said the same thing about Bob Huggins when he was out there. To late now. How about Paul Westfall, or Wesfall or how ever you spell it.

  2. This man did what few if any ever have been able to do. He took over for a legend and kept the legend going. Not only was he a great coach but he is also a great American, his values typify why Nebraska was such a great place to grow up in. I think the state can use some of those values again. I hope he gets the chance to put his imprint on the state again.

  3. I hate to see any Neberaska kid going to another program that the huskers wanted but at least the coaches were honest with him. I wish him the best of luck, and props to the coaching staff for being up front with Bates.

  4. I was just reading on a rivals100 board that the Texarkana High QB Mallett just narrowed his two schools to Texas (big shocker!) and Michigan. I could of sworn that he had NU as one of his favorites, didn't he? What is the fascination with Michigan? They are on TV all of the time, but that is just about it. What happened?

Could it be that some of these kids are just afraid to have to learn the wco and that they want to see some playing time right away, they won't get that playing time here their first year. Just a thought.

  5. Plus if he does not play quite a bit this year we will have no chance the following year. Experience no matter how little is better than playing with the scout team.

And he needs a lot if he is expected to run the team in 2007.

    :yeah

He can't sit on the bench and be expected to do much in 07. I think if he doesn't get a lot of playing time this year 07 is not going to be more than 7 or 8 wins.

  6. I keep hearing Oregon, Washinigton, possible USC and a couple SEC teams that keep coming up as the teams that are the worst.

I think that when T.O. retired that a lot of schools thought we would now drop off in our recruiting, so they seem to me to be really be worried about this staff and the way they are getting some top recruits to visit even if they are not commiting. The name "Nebraska" still opens a lot of doors.

  7. After reading C.M. interview I would say he hit it right on the head. I wasen't happy that F.S. couldn't keep it going, as I grew up watching him play and he was Husker family. When B.C. was hired all I wanted for him was to get this program going again. I think all true Husker fans want the same thing. I think it will be a tough year to to get nine wins this year and it might be eight again, either way this team is getting stronger with each recruiting class. This coaching staff has made a commitment to this program. I also think most of the fans do to. We seem to get pulled into debate that doesn't do anyone any good by a couple of posters who just want to stir up old wounds at the first sign of a game that we could of, should of our almost won. This just harms the program, IMO and we don't need it. I don't know if anyone sitting at their comp's who could do any better, I know I couldn't. It's fine to voice our feelings because we all care so much for this program, but calling for someones head for a loss is going a little bit over board. B.D. lost a couple of chances at the N/C before he got his and we all T.O. lost a few himself. These coaches deserve there time to see what they can also do. Looking forward to next season and beyond.

P.S..It will be great to sit at the USC game with thousands of Husker fans.

  8. I agree chad.  I doubt that we accomplish what TO did in that 5 year stretch, in honesty I doubt anyone ever does.  But we have turned the corner.  Play with fire and determination, win some, lose some but play like Nebraska.  Never quit and never be totally out classed like we have been in the not to distant past.  Sell the future.

Never look back, what is done is done, good or bad. The future is bright and I am on board for the long ride (well as long as I live, hopefully another 10-15 years).

I think alot of people on this board are young, I'm 34 but I've been watching since I've been 5 years old when I could actually follow and grasp a whole game - I've had my heart broke many a time, I remember all of them and some of them still drive me NUTS!!!! Thank god I never had to see them be horrible like my dad and grandpa did. The younger fans don't know how good they've had it since 1993,. that was the year the transformation was completed. Before 1993 it was ugly losing in all those bowl games and losing to OU with that damn Sooner Magic, So everyone should take their lumps and look to the future because it is BRIGHT.

I think our history lets still lets the coaches get their foot in the door that some other schools can't get in. I will always think of the past teams and what they started for this program. skerfan has a point, it is time to look ahead but never forget the past greatness. We will be back sooner than later and never fall off as bad as Ala did or Okl. I for one am glad I was able to see this team thru the 60's till now. What a great ride it was. We won some huge games and we lost some but for those of you that weren't there to see the Huskers on the big stage year in and year out you will never know what you missed. Even those losses in the bowl games couldn't take away from what each of those teams did during the season. They always played hard right up to the final gun and you new next year we would be in another big bowl game. I always hate to see them lose and of course I always want them to win, but the bottom line is win or lose I just love to watch them play.

  9. No matter how bad it may have gotten we still have a reputation in the football world. In honesty the higher price shows respect for our program and the fact that many Nebraska and USC fans will attend this game that nornally do not.

Not a problem, I can hardly wait. But if it is a 6pm kickoff my tickets will quickly be available to anyone that wants them. Will not attend a nite game there for any reason.

How bad is it at night there? I would think if your in the parking areas it should be ok, if you leave as soon as its over. I lived in West Covina for awhile a long, long time ago for three months, didn't seem bad out there then.

  10. Was surprised to be able to get them. Got 4 for $284.00. Going to take my 3 sons. Its only about a 7or8 hr drive from here. Of course 1 of them I must have dropped or something when he was little. Some how he became a Norte Dame fan. <_< Middle son so it figures. We just won't talk to him much on the trip.

  11. I'm just like a lot of you, Okla was are rival when i was growing up, hated to see it end. I sure didn't want to change the Big 8 either but everything seems to change sooner or later. Like I posted before, adding those 4 teams didn't help us at all. Just kept the Texas kids at instate schools more. The one team I guess that I want us to beat the worst is Col, just because of the way their fans act. Then Texas, because of where their at now. But Okl is still my favorite game.

  12. I'd be pushing for Bob Huggins. He's my number one choice.

    :yeah

    GBR!!!

Why Bob Huggins? Yeah, he won a lot at Cincinatti, but he left a sordid past behind him there as well. I wouldn't want him as coach and I seriously doubt Pederson would be willing to stick his neck out for him.

Most people learn from their mistakes and I think Steve P. could sit down and at least listen to what kind of ideas B.Huggins has and what he could bring to Neb. If there were any doubts at all you don't have to hire him. Name recognition helps in recruiting and he certainly has that. It may not all be good but alot of people have a little baggage they carry around. T.T didn't wait to hire Bobby K. and who had more problems then him, and it seemed to be work out for them. Bob Huggins won't be asked to bring us a N/C, but just be able to compete with the rest of the Big12 from time to time would be an upgrade for this program.IMHO...

  13. I'm sure BC knows what he has in Herian and coach Watson said he was eager to coach Herian. If Herian is back at full strength I think you will see him running down the field on some long pass plays as well as his short turn ins. When you have a weapon that you didn't have last year, your going to make the other Big 12 coaches think about having to cover that type of big threat player. The more time that our opponents have to spend on that problem the less time they have to work on other schemes. Even if we never throw a long pass to Herian, just the threat has to worry a defensive coordinator. IMHO.

  14. In my personal opinion, i think Nebraska will be a better "team" next year, but wouldn't surprise me if we finished with a similar record as this year, being off by one or two with the extra game plus a possible Big 12 Championship game.

I was thinking a little along those same lines. would like to say we will be in the Big 12 Title game but I think we will need a few breaks in a couple of close games during the up coming season to get there. Don't no why I have that feeling just do. I think by the time Beck's a junior we will be at the top of the Big 12. I would like to say it will be sooner because I think we will be a lot better this year but still a lot of new guys to break in. Time will tell I guess.

  15. we dont need 5 star guys, how many 5 star guys did Dr Tom get?

Its all about wanting to play for Nebraska. 3 star or 4 star.

Dr. Tom didn't need as many 4 or 5 stars as Bill C will need to keep the wco going year after year. It has to be much tougher to get the right players to fit this type of offense than the option offense. The option was all about over powering the other team. WCO seems more of a finesse type of offense to me. Does anyone else see it that way?

  16. I think Collier is slowly becoming the Steve Lavin of the NEbraska program. Every year at UCLA Lavin would just look terrible for stretches, then get hot enough in the tourny or make the sweet 16 in March and make it impossible to fire him. NU basketball isn't anywhere near UCLA's, but every COllier seems to just do enough to survuve. If he makes the NCAA's this year, he's safe. But, a bad conf. tourny exit and a trip to the NIT is it for him. And it should be.

What your saying about Steve Lavin is true but the one thing he was able to do was recruit those kids that Ariz, Duke, Kan, N.C, ect wanted. Collier can't get that kind of player to want to come to Neb. Granted UCLA is a lot easier to recruit players to. If you can't even keep your own in state high school players from leaving [ the kid that went to Texas from our own back yard] I think that hes not going to be able turn the program around. We have just as good of fans as any school in the nation but they need to see some thing to get excited about. They would pack the center to the rafters if the team can just compete on a regular basis. The fan base is there and no one has fans like Nebraska's.
