So let me get this straight, youve lied and coerced with another team to leave the conference, possibly did this same thing 10 years ago in a attempt to get more power in a conference you were invited to join, had some obvious sway in the league in terms of pull with rulings and calls during games.  But now, this........this is what your going to tell the truth about.

saying  "Is the intention" is like saying "with all do respect" or "dont take this wrong" ..... but .....

Alright, since you're not 120, I'll educate you: the next big power conference realignment after the SWC folded was in 2005. :thumbs

You are correct, I retract my comment..To me the biggie was us to the B1G and all that went with it. I still think this whole thing has been heading in an ultimately terrible direction for fans.

    SEC vote was unanimous. 14-0.

I can't believe A&M capitulated that easily. Somebody must be giving them a LOT of money.

aTm was squeeling like a pig the day it was announced...then they rolled over silent. very , very odd...only reason I could see they went quiet....money....

Which one? Are you talking about when Michigan left the conference in 1907? Or when Nebraska petitioned to join the Big Ten back in 1900, and again in 1911? Or one of the other realignments that have been going on for as long as college athletic conferences have been a thing?

3500 posts and thats what you got?  Im not 120. I'll indulge you...no the last big one since the SWC folded. ya know that one back about 10 years ago ....just to be a bit more precise. even the Big 8 to 12 was not a seismic shift towards the ESPN era....that came after which we all suffer now...this sucks

Leagues crumble when stuff like this happens. You can put your own interests first BUT if you don't understand that you have to have a healthy league or healthy college football in order to be able to even play, you have nothing in the end. Who do you play against? You work to find a happy balance between self self interest and in the long run having a healthy league to play in.

College football has always been about the schools, the rivalries etc- How can you have a true rivalry against a team 1000 miles away and who you don't play all the time? I'm very fearful for the future of college football.

I really started to lose interest in college football after of the first reorganization....for me its now compounding. To me, what makes school sports whether is HS, College...rivalry, border wars, 100 years of bad blood, regional cultural nuances...not this crap we see unfolding.

In the mid west its competition among rural communities...kids from similar backgrounds, fans coming into Lincoln on a sunny Saruday morning in OCtober and the highway patrol on the radio reminding everyone coming in for the game to "watch for Orange triangles, its harvest time"..........not Nebraska playing a some engineering school in downtown Chigago ...Just my opinion

In this post, you’re talking about our football program not performing compared to Texas. Then, when someone points out they have been very similar, :movegoalpost:

I never compared us to Texas, I mentioned many others, if anything I was comparing to MI, OU, OSU, Clemson, etc. B1G, SEC.  obviously the SEC wants Texas and their big name, fans, TV eyeballs, $190M or whatever revenue they generated etc. It cant be argued they are valuable.

Texas has 1 more win over that time period

UT is the most valuable sports brand in NCAA. they might  have 5X the alums... Im following the money, its not about wins. UT wll be lucky to see 6 wins in the SEC while in the most fertile recruiting grounds in the country....  Its like a farmer in SE nebraska on the aquifer who cant  get 80 bushel corn....staggering

If the Power Football institutions wish to create a Saturday semi-pro football league where players are under contract, do not need to meet any academic testing standards or be a part of the university as a student, that is fine.  Let that money reside with the semi-pro institutions so they can fund all of their other athletic programs.

That said, do not expect those of us that support student athletes and amateurism to permit the semi-pro league teams to have representation in the NCAA tournament, track & field championships, collegiate baseball, etc.

In other words, give them want they want, MONEY!  Let us have and enjoy competition and sports without the headaches of professionalism.  Watching a relatively unknown, amateur 17 year old US Olympic swimmer win the Gold Medal in Tokyo was far more enjoyable than watching these collegiate athletes complain about 4 star accommodations or not getting paid to play.

Too bad football can't go the way Hockey, Baseball, basketball has...direct from High school.

I miss the old Big 8 days when it an easy few hours drive to away games, border rivalrys, fan bases within close proximity of each other. I have lost so much interest in college football anymore. its been ruined for me and many fans. who the hell cares about Nebraska v. Rutgers, maryland, Purdue, NW, Indiana etc etc.

College football, as we have known it for the past 30-40 years, is ending. And just be forewarned for about getting what you wish for, as Nebraska could very well find themselves on the outside looking in of any potential Super Conference structure, particularly if the OSU and Michigan rumors are true.

ofcourse not, last thing Id want,  but they simply arent performing and havent in atleast 10 years arguably back to 05 or so...

  10. jus spit ballin...2021 is a half step to the grand plan  by no later than 2030.....Aggregate the most  profitable/best college programs in the country and leave the NCAA.  Make this move for OU and TX now, next act.... raid the B1G (MI, OSU, etc.), PAC (USC? ), ACC (Clemson)get ND, then kick out the Mizzous, ole miss's, Arkansas and leave the NCAA. create a pre NFL league, then the remaining schools go back to regional conferences of less imprtanence but look like to College football of old..Regional conferences...Like the old Big 8. fans are happy again.

no super conferences.......maybe 24 teams...the last 10 years have shown there is no reason for 4 super conferences...Huskers have work to do to be on that short list...

    just a thought

  11. Its all been said here...Its a very weird year. When was the last time M, PSU, MSU were struggling like this and OSU almost loses to IU. Its weird everyhere. that being said....Frost has to get a couple more years, no matter how bad. After the last 4 hires we are in a worst case scenario with firing him now. He probably needs to get out of play calling and just managing the game for now...

  12. You gotta let this go for atleast to 5 years...he needs to get 2 more years of his recruits and hopefully keep em. Get Frost out of play calling and make sure you have the best O ad D Coord. money can buy.  if it comes to replacing him, then you almost gotta replace him while he is here...dont get behind an 8 ball of firing him and having to "get somebody" here in 60 days. It has to be planned out better and on the down low. We need the right guy, not a guy who will "do great with our facilites and tradition"

Not sure power I is going to help recruiting and with todays defenses, you would have to probably have the best offense in the country to pull it off and we dont and wont.

Finally... move south...in the 70s/80s the average player sent 7XX miles from home to play on tv for one of the 20 who played on TV. Now its like 200 miles. lottta kids come from the south. they are staying south more...closer to home

Firing coaches in 3-4 years hasnt helped the situation, we dont want to do that if we dont have to almost to a fault.

No.... I believe Nebraska is very capable of being a power again....OU went thru this in the 90's and we came back... Nebraska can too..... they need a coach and to be back in the Big 12 to get back to recruiting Texas and California ....Nebraska should never be considered an "easy win"... that's BS

that lasted like 8 years maybe? We re on like year 18 and a Stoops doesnt seem to be on the horizon

I'm pretty happy that players such as Bryce Benhart, Nick Heinrich, Luke McCaffrey, Wandale Robinson, Ty Robinson, Turner Corcoran and Marcus Fleming chose Nebraska.

I know Turner absolutely did choose Nebraska. Good Dude

I am so glad you said this. I have been wanting to say this for a while now but I am afraid of being labeled a horrible fan or a troll. It is exactly how I feel every time the Huskers play. It is just so painful to watch us repeat the same crap every game...same undisciplined play, penalties, bad play calling, and uninspired and boring (un)special teams play. Every team shows some spark every now and then but our team just finds creative new ways to lose. It is depressing watching other teams play. I got to the point where I envy Iowa state...can’t get worst than that....

unfortunately I was here 5 years ago....

Because of lockdown I can proudly say I watched every game that was possible on YouTube from 1991-2001. Also watched multiple games from 2002-2012, and watched a few of old ones from 70-80s.

Starting in like 1983 or so TO ran mostly I-formation. Then he went 4 wide a lot, double wing, motion to trips, twins a crap ton to the wide side, etc etc (Around 92-93ish)...over and over the announcers would comment that “the difficultly in prepping for Nebraska is that they run their power game so well. But also throw in multiple formations and sets and actually spread teams out a lot.”  Good base, multiple formations, similar plays but spread out vs the base I-form.

basically, don’t forget when TO hit his stride 91-97 he had his base power plays and formations but ran 6-8 other formations that built mismatches and scheme problems for opponents.  But there was a core, a system of plays from every formation. Then expanded from there. Also, he was a f#&%ing master play caller. Maybe the best ever?

return to a “triple option, 4 formation set?” Hell no!! (Which is mostly what TO had from 82-90).

Frost needs to have a base that works and build multiple layers on top of that. For instance...where the f#&% is the uptempo, snap it every 27 seconds base? Or the quick draw, sprint option, make a read on the DE/OLB quick hit RPO base (once they have dime in) to a lead power from formation to motion power base? What is the BASE and contiguous levels built on them?

we are on our heels instead of putting defenses  on theirs IMHO. What is our PRESS? Whether Power or Tempo.  Muscle or Speed. What do we DO that is the best and build layers on that?

I don’t know the answer, I just know we don’t have a base and don’t seem to have layers built on it.

if I remember correctly, Osborne also transitioned from size to speed on defense at the urging of Bobby Bowden when FSU came to Lincoln to see the best weight/nutrition proram in the country at the time. now everyone has that. That was the final piece to Osbornes puzzle to start winning big games. Not sure that offense will work anymore....this "go back to the option" thread has been discussed on and off for literally decades around here now.
