Do you seriously think we are Minnesota? I am sorry by Minnesota has whipped us around lately and they had an excellent season last year. We are slightly better than Illinois right now and may be Rutgers and I say that with utter humbleness as I feel that Rutgers would probably beat us this year if we played them.

let us face it, Frost is lost and he is not even close to turning this around. We can be patient and give him all the time he needs but let us not sugar coat it. If Indiana could turn things around, why can’t he!? He is paid way more than Indiana’s coach and the results do not reflect that.

Meaning Minnesota won 4 national championships over a 25 year period , then fell off the table after 1960....Im not an officianado on Indiana, but this is the first time I can remember them having the season they are having....not sure they turned anything around...more like having a good year in a weird College Football year....its a very weird year. I remember when Penn State vs Nebraska would have been an ESPN Game Day show. Some of the old games are classics, dont think this year will add to that list...

Ive always thought year 5 is when I'd start drawing a conclusion about Frost. I have a few years, and most importantly, a few recruiting classes to go...There are things to like....but the offense makes me queezy for the moment..He's the 5th coach since 1998, if he cant do it.....

At this point I'm basically calm and numb. I'll watch games and hope we play better, but I give up on any expectations anymore. I'll watch Nebraska like I do the Wyoming Cowboys, expect to lose but glad when we win.

I still think Frost can figure it out, but if he doesn't we'll be back to square one. At this point no successful or hot coach will want to come here to coach. If Frost doesn't get it figured out our best hope is we hire some young coach who decides to stick around instead of using NU as a stepping stone now. Don't have much hope for that. If Frost isn't it, NU is just a bottom of the barrel power 5 team now.

Years ago(this has been going on for close to 2 decades) I used to say if this doesnt get fixed, we will be Minnesota. I really feel now like we are Minnesota.... Im really hoping Frost can pull it out....but as they say in politics, there seem to be fewer paths at this point...

You made my point.  Basically all those criticisms are NU changes NOT national ones.
Mostly the elites of the game today are the ones from the past 5 decades OU, MI, PSU, AB, FL, GA, etc. A few like TX, USC, FSU and Miami are struggling right now but they’re still recruiting well and present good teams into the future.
football talent - geographically speaking - is still pretty much concentrated outside Neb as it always has been.  The things that have changed are mostly internal to Nebraska.   Those are being changed once again - hopefully into a national statute program.
Nebraska needs to be careful to focus on being the exception and not the rule.  If we try to play the same way and copy the Bamas and Ohio States and Clemsons it might work.  If we try to copy the Nebraska (1962-2002) and focus of us, it will work.   We’ve always done well by mostly being the toughest, most determined, hardest working team.  Neb football at its best has been blue collar - nothing fancy - smash mouth.  The blackshirts.  The trenches.   Hard hits.  Power not finesse.  The power I. The Osbone not the fun n gun.

Yes the game itself has evolved with rules, schemes in favor, fads, uniforms, pads, etc but those are all common to every team.  There were times when the run based “option” schemes were more common and less pass oriented.
But Husker football can certainly be a top selling - winning formula.  In that sense nothing much BESIDES NU has changed.
we quit being Nebraska frankly while other programs continued.
Getting in great physical shape lots of hard work over time.  Staying in that shape is still hard work but it becomes routine and habit and more enjoyable.

and back in the day If you wanted to be on TV(most did), there were only probably 25 programs in the country that were on consistently. ND, UCLA, USC, MI, OSU, Penn state etc..we all remember them. I remember seeing a stat or study that back in the 60s 70s, 80s the average blue chipper went like 756 miles to play football...now it's like 129 miles...many are in the south. If you live in FL, GA, AZ, TX, CA where a high %  come from, there are A LOT of options that kids are happy with. Would Tommy Frazier come here today fom Bradenton High School? not so sure....

Agreed.  But it started out before Pelini.  I lay the blame squarely on the king of ego, Steve Pederson.   Pederson promised not to let Nebraska gravitate towards mediocrity.  But he stepped on the gas instead of the brakes.  Bill Callahan wasn't the answer Pederson thought he'd be.  Callahan came in and tore everything down in an attempt to start from scratch.  But he never got it going.  Instead of making Solich the scapegoat and s#!tcanning everything, Pederson should have helped Solich tweak the program to get back to where we were.  /jmho

He kept his promise, we sailed right past mediocrity.

When did this activity start happening? This "banging."

hahahahaha epic. I can confirm in 1985 it was on.

anyway, I was at the Gator Bowl when Nebraska made a huge comeback on Clemson and won.. W were down 21-10 in 3rd and ended up winning 26-21  Lotta things change. Dabo had just taken over from asst. to head coach a few weeks earlier if I remember correctly.  If recruiting continues to go well, it will be good in a few years. Relevant? Id be very happy with 100 weeks in the top 20....and winning what we should and  getting an upset every now and then...just some kind of consistent, quality performance...

  6. used to not miss a game between TV, Radio or sirius.  I hunt and fish a lot and had it on one way or another.

Now? meh . Was at my kids VB game a few months ago, 4 huskers fans standing  there(All of us in our 50's), 1 wrestled at Nebraska, we had friends/family who played, etc...not one of us knew for sure who or where they were playing...over the last 15 years the flame got snuffed out, I guess. I think leaving the big 12 has had a little bit to do with it too. We don't have a ton a of big 10 alums/fans in KC relative to Big 12 . Its Big 12 everywhere here.

  7. I know one thing...I was very very very  jealous of the line play I saw in those games yesterday...LSU had that 350 lb NG with an o lineman in each hand ...

O how i really miss the days when it was Nebraska that had those lines everyone envied....

Ill watch for entertainment and pull for ANYONE playing an SEC team....including tOSU

Remington? Is that the guy that played with Peters and Winstrom?

    haha

Couldn't watch the game had KS state HS vb tourn yesterday, but I did catch the shutout on the goal line. was that 1st and goal and we threw 3 incomplete passes and had to settle for a field goal?

To me, the first litmus test for my offense is easy. Can you line up in the red zone and pound the ball in. I despise passing in the red zone. I'm sure there are some stats that say I'm stupid , but to me that's where you line up and men prove themselves decisively. You set the tone with little left to the imagination. To me,  Purdue wouldn't be the team we shouldn't be able to do that. IF you CANT line up in Rhino or whatever your team calls it and own the moment, go get a new hobby.

Do you remember how you would have THE PERFECT schedule mapped out...and then you dial in to N-Roll and the first f#&%ing class was full...and you were left scrambling!

I went to Iowa State, exact same thing...call in with perfect schedule and next thing you know you are considering changing your major or youll be on campus 12 hours a day....funny  memories

Hahahah!  4pm!!!  My god...was that even an option!

    f#&%ing N-Roll!

that's when you pivot to Summer school Juco . 10-12, late enough to not be hung over, early enough to take a nap, hit the the gym before rinse repeat, everyone gets an A "cause its summer!"

    N-Roll!!!!

"Philosophy 106, meeting Monday, Wednesday Friday at 9am - 9:50am at Richards Hall...is full"

    f#&%!!!!!

that's so funny.... then you find out the only class options  left open are at 8 am mwf or 4pm mwf on the other side of campus and all your other classes are snuggled in from 11-2 mwf. haven't thought about that in 30 years. awesome

I imagine a lot of guys take online/hybrid classes and the remaining ones are probably afternoon. Idk about you but when I was in college 90% of my classes were noon or later.

athletes classes are scheduled first and put together in such a way as to be efficient as possible around practice schedule. they typically have an academic  counselor and a counselor who schedules, communicates with teachers all year long for practices, during game week, studying on the road with tutors etc.  etc.

these kids have little  to do with their class schedules...

Wow...we are definitely living in times of instant gratification. I am a new member as far as posting...have been reading posts for some time now...but after reading this post..I just had to sign up so I could comment. Yes..this season in disappointing based on the expectations we all had coming into this year..I admit..I drank the koolaid   and predicted a nine win season...but so called fans throwing in the towel ..giving up season tickets..in season two of a massive rebuilding project is beyond me. So go ahead..step aside and turn in your tickets...there are dozens of people lined up behind you to pick up the slack.GBR

instant gratification?? this "massive rebuild" has been going on for 18 years through 5 coaching regimes...hardly "instant gratification" sounds more like insanity...keep doing the same thing expecting a different outcome...

  14. voted 2023, 2-3 more recruiting classes. its a new world in CFB, it will never likely be like the 90s, but to be relevant again is all I want. living in the top 20 with the ability to win some games against top 10 teams would be reallllllllly nice. Will we be what the top of the SEC is? not sure about that,  but who knows

  15. I think he's the best option for the long haul. At about year 5(I'll be 56), ill start to have a stronger opinion on the chance  Ill ever see good/great Nebraska football again in my life time.

Between now and then we need and will have 4-5 of his classes to begin to see what he might be able to do. It wont be in year 2. In the meantime,  I don't get real invested in all of this....Those days are over . this year its 2 decades since we have won a conf. championship. 40% of my lifetime we have been in a bad place. the first 60% was awesome! a lot has changed in the college landscape since then and not in our favor.

In the meantime, just be focused, low key, understated and get the work done in recruiting...

Hell.....If Frost can't get it done, who the hell can?
