The general concept for the NFL's OT is hot garbage. I can live with it in the regular season but there's no excuse for a playoff game to end like that, and I had no dog in the fight last night.

Every single other major professional sport in this country has some form of a balanced overtime: baseball is an extra inning, basketball has extra minutes and hockey has extra minutes + a shootout. College football OT isn't perfect but it's certainly more equitable.

As for the officiating yesterday, it wasn't great. Lots of problems and I don't think they all necessarily fall on the refs blowing calls. Some of it is issues at the macro level of football. But, if I'm a Saints fan, I'm also lamenting Brees going 4/11 in the final quarter and them turning the ball over in OT. If I'm a Chiefs fan, I'm frustrated that the defense allowed three 3rd and Long conversions in OT. There were a lot of opportunities for both losing teams yesterday to play better and they didn't. It doesn't negate some of the OT issues and bad officiating, but, it's certainly part of the puzzle.

one of those 3 and 10s was a horrendous roughing the passer call....which resulted on a fresh set of downs and a TD but hey, if Chiefs played in the first half like they did in second half, this would be a different outcome...

  2. Im in Boston quite a bit, the pats fans I see are even bored....I'm sure tv and league execs were praying for a Rams/ Chiefs SB...now scrambling trying to figure out how to get viewership up..Wish we had RB

  3. wow that's cool, I was born 1 month earlier a few miles away. My great aunt bought that gas station which I believe is at 9:00 in that pic about 2 years later which became The Big Red Shop. The garage doors were still in the ceiling . On the other side of the family, my grandparents lived across the street and were friends with the Devaneys on C street..I have many great memories of that.

The Big Red shop was the site of many "ESPN Game days" back in the 90s. She let Players park there for jerseys and stuff. I have a bunch of it. Had a dave rimington jersey(stolen from me in college), have a signed 1985 ball by entire team and staff. etc..the land was sold to the university for a tidy sum in the early 2000s and is now the champions club. There's a plaque in there about it. I was told my grandmother helped her sis with the books by hand --pencil and national pad, until her death in the 90s.

So cool thanks for posting. I'm going to send that to my dad.

  4. we thought we had seen it all before until Cory Schlesinger went up the middle basically untouched  to go ahead late with warren Sapp and a fantastic d line completely gassed and destroyed mentally and physically...…in 95...after the first quarter and a few adjustments, Spurrier didn't have an answer for any phase of the game. he just wanted out. it was one of the great beatdowns I have witnessed. he and his team were completely humiliated by half time. utter destruction.

funny article out of LA times--300 pounders 23 years ago..not now....23 years ago!!......back when Nebraska was King.

"On the Cornhuskers' side, it didn't hurt that both Frazier and Phillips were sprung by a huge offensive line that featured three 300-pounders that happened to be football players. After all, anything this size usually has a brand on it."
