This whole "it's so tough to win here" has gotten so pervasive as to be a poison. You think not being Florida ever stops or even crosses the minds of the team up at Minnesota or Northwestern?

    Or Oregon State?

No...but those teams also don't win crap.

Hmmm MN and NW beat us with regularity.

  2.

according to the patient I just took care of. She works at the AD dept and is friends with our AD's secretary.
I asked her specifics, and before you doubt, let me just say, she's like me; she knows her sports and football. She wasn't the type to be more interested in non relevant crap. She is a Husker football fan through and through.
I asked her, "Is Scott Frost coming to NU as our new OC?"
She said, "Yes, BUT it depends on IF Frost accepts the offer tonight or early Sat. that is what i've heard from people in the AD dept. It's part of the Riley hire and will be announced Sat. so Frost can play tonight's Pac 12 Championship Game without any distraction."
I asked her IF Frost accepts, "how long will Riley be HC before handing the reigns over to Frost?"
She said, "the word is about 5 years, but I don't know if that is in stone or not."
I asked her, "how much will Frost be offered?"
She said, "something close to Beck's, maybe more."
I said, "I've heard 7 figures, is that accurate?"
She said, "yea, that certainly could be the plan."
I asked her about Orgeron and if he's been brought as a DL or DC by Riley.
She said, "I have not heard that yet, but I do know who he is and could be a possibility."
I said, "Have you met Coach Riley yet?"
She said, "Yes, he's a very nice guy and everyone was impressed."
I asked her what she thought of Bo.
She said, "He was always pleasant to me and I have no issues with him personally. I know that's not the perception of many NU fans."
That's all I got but felt it was from an accurate source. She was nice to share this with me and I promised her I wouldn't text her every day to get new info.
I guess we'll see how this plays out.
    GO DUCKS!

    :ahhhhhhhh

  3. I don't know what to think at this point. Was this really the plan all along, do you think? Or was this the result of an unprepared scramble?

I really want to believe in this guy... but there's nothing really strong to go off of. His record is spotty, some good and some bad. Sounds like there are some upsets and some NFL greats in his background. But for a coach his age I guess I would have imagined someone a bit more.... accomplished. Seems a little late to be reaching a peak. And I highly doubt Frost is this miracle who is waiting in the wings.

Take this away from the coaching carousel for a second...what is everyone's thoughts on if Tommy Armstrong is our quarterback moving forward? I'm in up in the air. He hasn't been impressive thus far however its hard to be good behind that offensive line. He has shown some promising signs.

Interesting question, just another aspect that will be intriguing to see how it works out.

I'm inclined to think Armstrong will stay at QB unless the new guy can wrangle another qb to fit their style p.d.q

Callahan went with Dailey in his first year as coach.

Can we please keep this thread aimed at information and false information regarding Jim Tressel and/or Scott Frost!? I am already wasting so much time in here, I can't be distracted by these other thoughts (unless they are hilarious .gifs)

Holy Crap this was just posted on Jim Tressels Twitter:

"The game of life is the game of boomerangs. Our thoughts, deeds & words return to us sooner or later, w/ astounding accuracy. Florence Shinn"

    https://twitter.com/JimTressel5/status/540510899053035520

    IS HE COMING!?!?!?!?!?!?

hahahaha I love it. I knew once I read this that everyone else would think it's some cryptic message to Husker Nation.

The timing of this quote is just uncanny....

Notice he didn't hashtag #quiettime either, like he did on prior quote tweets. It's because his life is about to be the opposite of quiet (he's going to be brining the noise! ... is that still a cool thing to say?)

Anyone who understands the dynamics of coaching searches and hires, especially ones as hush hush as this one has been, knows that the twitter pics of Tress and this tweet are much more good news than bad for Nebraska. Drip drip goes the gas tank.

    explain?

    Well for one. Evidence.

Nick Saban and Urban Meyer both DENIED publicly any contact whatsoever LESS than 24 hours before being announced as coaches of where they are now.

Things like this stay silent. Like was said in another thread, was the agent supposed to say there was contact if there was? No. The answer regardless of truth is exactly what he said. It's just on a deal like this that is so hush hush, new like this doesnt denounce anything. If anything at all, it adds fuel to the speculation. And we have yet to see a comment from Jim Tressel himself.

Look, I'm not sayin it means he's "N". I'm just sayin, that when you watch the dynamics of coaching searches and hires in this crazy ass media drivin society, things like this mean absolutely nothing.

I want to believe this so bad. But I did think the rep's words were interesting in that he added that Tressel "honors" commitments and just committed three more years to his current employer. Why add that in for him to only contradict himself, especially on such a character comment.

Anybody listen to 1620 with sharp and banning? Supposedly they said that Nebraska will announce Jim Tressel as HC with Scott

    Frost as OC.

I honestly think they're mocking the fan base with that comment

Yeah, cause SE went down there and leaked that to them. B.S. SE isn't letting anyone know anything hence the lack of leaks and credible information. He isn't going to say anything until he's standing in front of the mics and that's probably only shortly after he speaks with the Regents so that they know a minute before the world knows.
I agree I think he's just mocking the fan base because of all these Tressel/Frost rumors

Why mock us!? The court of public opinion has spoken!

  8. Could it really be Tressel? It seems that this move was planned carefully and after a lot of deliberation, possibly starting the moment after Bo uttered, "If they want to fire me, go ahead" a whole year ago.

This would give SE plenty of time to reach out to a splash candidate like the Vest and secure something big. I'm holding out hope for a fashion statement.

  9. Oh Great Sockly One, I hope your prophesies are VESTED in truth. I fear that should Dustin Fox be right, and your Sockliness wrong, many people will be deVESTated, including myself. As a side note, I am surprised this was not all hammered down prior to diVESTing ourselves of Pelini and Co.

This is what I was getting at in another post. AS I have stated many times. It is not about winning or losing, it is how we play, who we play and how respected we are for our performance.

Last night was a loss, but listening to Herbie and Fowler, I think a lot of respect was gained, and it shows again in the polls. We did not play a great game, but we did perform about where most expected us to, but only in the 4th quarter. Too much attention given to less than stellar opponents in the out of conference schedule. We need to stop that crap for sure. Warm up games need to be developing our kids, not giving them the idea we will walk through the other team. Michigan State was much tougher than Nebraska for the first three quarters. Thanks to Oregon is my guess. And all the upsets yesterday did not help us either.

I am proud of the kids, not so much the coaching staff. I think they overcome some very poor coaching/play calling. But man this team loves their coaches, no question.

I am glad we showed a pulse at the end, but some of that praise from Herbie and Fowler was induced by the shock of how badly they had just watched us get beaten in every facet of the game for 3 quarters (should clarify I mean offensively here). One of the most memorable plays we had on offense was Cotton falling over for goodness sakes.

I'm not sure how much respect we really garnered after that game. To me, it didn't change anything really. We continue to be perceived as a team that can't win the big game, succumbs to pressure on big stages, struggles offensively, and is generally irrelevant on the national stage, perfectly content to languish as a barely ranked team. I'm not saying that only winning generates respect, there are honorable ways to play and there are honorable ways to run a program... but I don't think our performance this past week generated a lot of respect. I would have had a lot more respect for us had we played like that for four quarters rather than just one.

You worry too much about what the rest of the country thinks. Guess what the rest of the country really isn't that worried about Nebraska or whoever, they aren't a fan. Talked to 2 of 3 guys that work for me this morning. One is an Oregon St. fan the other is a BSU fan. Guess what they didn't watch the game, because they didn't care it wasn't their team playing. One said it must have been a close game from the looks of the score. That's what the majority of the country sees. A close game because it was a close score.

Everyone around the country is not obsessed with what Nebraska is doing. You think Alabama, UCLA, OU, A&M, Oregon and BYU fans are worried about Nebraska? How about the 3 loss S. Carolina fans or the LSU fans or the world?

The only teams that are really relevant at the end of the year will be the 4 that make the playoffs.

If we would have won on Saturday night, we would have become a lot more relevant, a lot more respected and the country would have actually cared about us. We would have catapulted into the top 10, generated hype for Ameer, and received way more attention from media. Suddenly, those fans from the competitive schools you mention above would be made aware of our existence. But, right now, you're right. Nobody outside of NE and a few in the B1G give two sh!ts.

Anyway, my real point is just that a win would have made us the benefactors of a lot more respect than some passing comments about how much "heart" our team has, and how we didn't give up. That's all well and good, but we clearly had the talent to be more competitive in that game - that's the most disappointing thing to me. As Bo said, no moral victories here.
