  1. Full disclosure  I was watching the game on DVR and posted this thread like 5 minutes before the pi call that I will admit was a blown call.  However there was a call right before it that was bogus that went against nebraska.  I still stand by what I said that o Neil's crew suck donkey balls and screws Nebraska  most of the time.

Remember when one of our safeties straight up trucked a Northwestern receiver running a slant while the ball was in the air, letting us pick it off? No call. Me too.

No but it would be deserved

  3. This guy and his crew screw Nebraska every time.  The phantom interference and roughing in the 4th are par for the course.  This guy screws us every time.  Everytime..  I dread seeing him as a referee

So, since the talk is about how bad Northwestern's offense is, should I assume Northwestern will look like they have an amazing offense this Saturday?

yeah probably.  remember when thorson was a freshman and it was supposed to be a cake walk but he ran all over the place?

i wish we couldve seen tj green.  i watched him a little when thorson was out last year and he sucked.

He would have completed the first pass that's was picked, it was thrown like a high school pass

Correct that was a terrible amateur throw...I could've made it and I'm left handed and old.  Sadly it was not his worst throw

He looks hesitant to run, maybe its because of the injury last year and maybe it's because he's expected to be a better passer and not rely just on his legs due to higher risk of injury, but that hesitation on running has hurt him. When he just plays loose and runs, he's extremely tough. He showed shades of it in the Illinoi comeback and against Colorado.

Dude just needs the green light to run.

I think that's a big part of his issues....he's worried about what he's supposed to be taking the next step whatever bs you want to call it vs just playing....I think last year he just played

The thing I like the most out of what we showed with the I formation, is that we can audible into it.

We can line up in a 4-wide shotgun set and see what the defense is doing. With Spielman, Noa, Robinson, and either Stoll or Allen split wide, with Mills in the backfield, defenses would have to put in personnel more suited to defending a spread attack. If they're out in a Nickel or Dime formation, we could easily audible that into an I formation (or that flexbone look) and have a favorable personnel matchup. Run that with tempo and prevent them from substituting a better defensive personnel group in, and we could drive all the way down the field.

Once they sub in a heavier, slower group, audible back out into spread and make them pay for it, again running with tempo to prevent them from substituting.

We wouldn't have to change too much, personnel wise, to play two completely opposing styles of offense and catch them in a bad matchup.

The downfall of this is what we saw with Ohio State. They had guys that were big and strong enough to stuff the power game, while also being fast and athletic enough to disrupt the spread. They could do both with the same group of guys, and while they were initially caught by surprise, they adjusted during the time out and stopped it cold.

It's a good wrinkle, but we dont have the athletic advantage to pull it off against elite opponents yet.

i wouldnt say that stopped it cold.  they may have had we let them.  but we felt the need to throw another int and then just got further and further behind.

  9. Martinez isnt trusting his eyes because the line is so bad and frankly looks like he has forgotten how to throw a football.  He needs to sit.  I would go with McCaffery of you think he is close to ready.  Go run heavy and go with a lot more the under center stuff.  It's time to accept martinez may not be the guy and this might be another rebuilding year.
