Which backup edge players can do a better job than our current DTs?
again, they're not necessarily backups, but i named some in my previous post. if you'd rather leave 3 DTs and gifford in there i guess we'll just have to disagree.

I'd be willing to bet two dollars that Chin, who has attended one or two practices, knows if the backups are good enough pass rushers.
And that knowledge probably contributes to why they aren't in there.
i'm not talking about backups i'm talking about swapping out DTs for edge players.

That would be a great idea.. if we had depth at cb. Just because he has "cb" next to his name doesn't mean he can cover. Also, just because they're athletic doesn't mean they can blockshed or get passed an olineman. People are acting like we have good pass rushers and good cbs that are hidden on the roster! They would also see that personnel set that you just mentioned and could audible (they would do this) to the run. Could you imagine that lineup against the run? It wouldn't be pretty. So, how would you adjust if you put that lineup out there and they kept audibling to the run?
As I mentioned, you would obviously have to re-adjust. But putting your base d in and sitting back in coverage obviously doesn't work either. Putting guys who should be theoretically better pass rushers out there just makes more sense than leaving guys who we know aren't out there. That logic might not hold against balanced offenses, but NW really had very little interest in running the ball, especially once behind.

Here’s a tip for his defense: maybe play your best players with the game on the line. Mo Barry said in his postgame interview he was not in on the last NW drive and that he doesnt know why but he trusts his coaches decision. WTF! You have your best leader and best defensive player riding the pine with the game on the line? Inexcusable and indefensible. Not sure what personnel was on the field that drive but if MB was sitting im sure some of our other better defenders were sitting also.
i dont know about the whole drive but the play they scored the last TD on, he had tyrin ferguson and gifford rushing outside with dedrick young in the middle. they had at least 3 safeties in (neal, dismuke, and aaron williams). neal blitzed but started too far back too matter. not sure who was covering on the left side, the play went to the right.

Yeah, he was being asked to do something that is not his best attribute. There's a reason he's a safety and not a corner.
I did see one of the media guys on Twitter say Williams was limping noticeably before that first TD. But it looked like he was supposed to cut off the slant so he jumped hard inside at the snap. But the receiver just adjust and ran to the corner. Williams couldn't keep up.
yes, he simply doesn't have the footspeed or change of direction to play man to man on a regular basis. that just isnt his game.

What can you do though? We have no talent on defense at ANY position. We make mental mistakes. It's easy to say "he needs to adjust" but can you be specific on how he needs to adjust? You can't say "different personnel packages" because each position is equally as bad.
i would start by taking out my base d-line on obvious passing downs (pretty much the whole 2nd half vs NW) and come up with an actual nickel/dime set. leave stille and maybe freedom out there and put them on the guards. the rest would be a combo of gifford, tannor, davis, barry, or whoever to give you some (in theory) more athletic guys that can rush the passer. That at least give you a better chance with only bringing 4-5 guys. yes, they may adjust and start to run the ball but that is kind of the point to force them to re-adjust. this diaco like nonsense of leaving the base d-line in the whole time is idiotic.

aaron williams can't play nickel corner and be stuck in m2m coverage most of the time. he can't do it. he might be a decent safety but he is not nor has he ever been a man coverage guy. much rather see cam taylor get a shot there.
go back and watch the 1st TD nagel scored if you don't believe me.

there is no conspiracy and no bias against frost however i do think there are some officials that may dislike nebraska because of the pelini antics that were allowed to go on for 7 years or however long he was here

games are won and lost on the lines. i have no problem with this.

weinmaster, colin miller, and mo need to be the ILB's going forward. dedrick should not play.
-
this team is still paying for bo pelini in more ways than one

that was another non existent penalty....this team is bad but pelini is no longer the coach the bs penalties need to stop

this may be the beginnings of a team that is starting to compete....the losers are being discarded

dedrick young is absolutely terrible and shouldnt be playing on the jv squad

Even though it's HuffPo, https://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/09/11/parent-job-interview_n_3907447.html I'm hearing it around different industries. Ours is a little more insulated because most kids intern here and we stick them with construction workers on site for a while. So they learn how to wipe without their mommies.
my boy will get his butt kicked if he tries that nonsense

is Kids are fragile and don't like criticism. I see it at work with new hires. You have to pull them along slowly or you go through a pile of them before you find a tough one. They can't take the mental abuse I got as a new employee out of college. The latest fad nationwide having their moms come with them to interviews. I crap you not. This was back in 2013 and I doubt it's gotten better.
Look at all the drama they do now to "select" a school with hats and junk in videos they post. My dad would have slapped me in the back of my head and my grandma would have made fun of me for being such a drama queen. You make a decision and tell the person to their face. Put it in writing.
this can't be real

Y'all are crazy if you think Bradley isnt playing so he can redshirt. He doesn't even wear pads on Saturdays. He may be #7 on the depth chart right now.
yeah i dont think they are high on bradley. i expect him to go fcs at some point.

a soft defensive game plan like last week and this is a blowout. they have to put together an aggressive game plan to stop the run. if they get beat deep on some play action, so what.
if the o line blocks like the michigan game....blowout
100+ yards of penalties....blowout
stupid turnovers....blowout
and by blowout i mean by like 50 points

What about Tyler Gabbert?

the key to the huskers staying in the game with osu with be to do exactly what purdue did - get stops on 3rd down. they got little pressue on haskins and he threw for almost 500 they just didn't score TDs when they got close.
