  1. Davie put up a 10.6, 100m and a 21.5, 200m few days ago at districts. Tyler Evans won both of his events as well w/ a 10.8, 100m and a 22.2 200m. Both are the 3rd leg in Section 2 of the 400 meter relay. Davie is in Heat 2, and Evans in Heat 3 for the 100m preliminary. Davie goes in with the fastest time at 10.6, along with 2 others. Davie is in Heat 1, and Evans in Heat 3 for the 200m preliminary. Davie goes in with the fastest time at 21.5. Second fastest is 22.00. Lampkin won the 100m with 10.84 at districts. He goes into state 2nd behind Hodges at 10.83. Lampkin sits at 1st in long jump at 24'4, next closest is 22'9. Sits 2nd in triple jump. He's got hops.
  2. When does the MLB have it's draft, maybe he'll wait and see where he goes. Bubba is only a junior, he won't be eligible until the 2011 MLB Draft next June once he has graduated High School. That is why he's considered somewhat of a risk, even if you get the LOI next winter, you don't know if he'll make it to campus until August usually. Correct, I just couldn't find the exact dates of the 2011 draft (if they have even scheduled it yet) - figured it would be about the same time as 2010.

  4. Few things I took from the list... 1) Weather is going to be a factor in his decision. Asking about clothing, average temp, etc. 2) 27 & 42 are the same question. Attention to detail Wayne. 3) Funds. funds to accomodate clothing? funds to fly him back home in an emergency? funds for insurance? funds for summer? 4) He places an emphasis on the racial profile and diversity of the area. Percentage of African-Americans in Lincoln? - 3.1%. Gainesville - 23.2% 5) He's very concerned about what goes on during the summer in regards to school/football. 6) He wants to start as a freshman. 7) He likes department stores.
  5. I'm not sure many of us actually thought Gabbert would end up signing - I'm sure Carnes' recruitment wasn't "because" Gabbert fell through...that had to have been in the works for a while. The coaches weren't sitting back watching the helicopter saga and everything else unfold before them without some action. T-Mart was recruited as a QB. Bo always told him he'd get the chance to prove himself as a QB first...Mart just made it known that he was willing to switch if it didn't work out. He really only had the 1 year as a HS quarterback, give him time and I think he'll surprise people. He won the LA Times Player of the Year award - I think that's the same award Matt Lienert (sp?) won. As for Lee, I don't think he'll be playing this year because he fits the offensive identity we have mapped out - he'll be playing because he's the best QB on the very young roster. In an ideal scenario the guy under center would be someone different, though he proved he can be mobile in that Arizona game. But, I would put more stock in our recent recruiting than in who is starting this year as far as an offensive identity for the future. 2008 - Kody Spano - Dual-Threat 2009 - Cody Green - Dual-Threat 2009 - Taylor Martinez - Dual-Threat (Athlete) 2010 - Brion Carnes - Dual-Threat 2010 - Bronson Marsh - Dual-Threat (Athlete) 2011 - Jamal Turner - Dual-Threat If that doesn't provide a pretty good projection of where we are heading then I have no idea what will. I'm sure Suntrup is a spectacular player, but it might be better for all involved if this didn't pan out. We've got dozens of other recruits that have signed on with certain expectations to how the offense will evolve. To go back to the drop-back, pure west-coast offense because we have to develop an offense around someone that has no run-threat isn't fair to the rest of the team...just like signing a highly regarded wide receiver with the intention of giving him 100 catches a year, only to pass the ball 15 times a game.

  7. I see what your saying, but wouldn't he already think that with our recruitment of Green, Carnes, T-Mart & Turner?
  8. another point to consider - if we continue to waver on our committment to either a dual threat or a pro-style QB, that big time WR we're always looking to sign will waver as well. Recruiting players to a system is easier when you have a system to sell. I'm sure the coaches are selling a representation of our offense right now, but if year after year we continue to rebuild 5 games into the season, or even rebuild in the off season to "fit" our QB flavor of the year...the validity of the product they sold is lost. It's not a reputation we want to create for ourselves...just like switching a combination of t-mart, green, carnes, turner to defense of WR could create an image that if you sign with NU, you're probably not going to be playing the position you were offered for.
  9. If we stopped recruiting Texas tomorrow does that mean that we couldn't sign 25 players this year? Only 18-19 then? I assure you we'd fill the additional 6 spots that will probably go to Texas players without a problem. They'd come from FL, CA, MO, KS, OK, CO, WA, OH, IL, NE or some other state we've pulled kids out of recently. Texas is a great spot to recruit, and I won't argue with you that it's marginally important to us today...but it's not a vital lifeline that would cause the NU football program to implode if lost. We don't "need" Texas recruiting. If you think we do you're crazy, because there are 1,500+ kids outside of Texas that will be ranked 3* and above this year by Rivals. Finding 25 that want to play for Nebraska, not a problem. I bet Texas could stop recruiting Texas players and still sign a top 25 team from CA, FL, AL, LA, GA. Texas recruits are convenient for all involved, but certainly not required to field a team on Saturday.
  10. never have understood why kids can't figure out that what they do early on in their HS careers has a major impact on their future. least he's got it figured out now, but hopefully it's not already too late.
  11. Sigh. We're not only taking players that fit through certain shaped cookie cutters. That's a bit crazy. We need our QBs to be able to execute the offense. The dual threat guys bring that extra dimension, and IF the passing part clicks, then it will work out well with them. Nonetheless, their speed is a secondary quality. We're looking for quarterbacks who have the potential in their arm. Some are fast, but some are not. People just have no faith at all in Watson...which is fair, but this particular argument IMO is ridiculous, and it's been repeated far too many times. Look at Texas with McCoy and Gilbert. Or OSU going from Boeckman to Pryor. Are they having an offensive identity crisis? Are they transitioning to a fast-QBs only system? No - it's just they got this kid that happens to be big and strong and fast, and they're going to make him a QB for them. If speed is a secondary quality, and we are pass-first offense...why aren't we concentrating more heavily on pro-style QB's? We don't have a good track record of improving questionable passers. If that's how it's going to be we need to start out with a more polished product than what we've recruited the last 3 years. I look for us to get to a point where we have 20-25 pass attempts a game max. Not exactly the type of environment a pro-style QB is going to thrive in. Even the AZ game, Lee was all over the field. I'd argue OSU is having an offensive identity crisis when it comes to the QB position. Pryor comes out throwing the first part of the season, then has a bad game against Purdue and doesn't throw over 17 passes in a game until the bowl game where he has a breakout performance with 37 pass attempts. They aren't sure what they want to do w/ him. And Texas is Texas. There is so much tallent around Gilbert that it doesn't matter what he does.
  12. Or maybe he just wants to take advantage of his 5 all-expense paid official visits? Can't blame a kid for wanting to enjoy the whole recruiting process since it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Even if he knows in the back of his mind where he's going to end up, why not take advantage of those 5 free trips to see different college campuses? I think we'd all take the 5 visits if we were 18, and I don't fault him for doing it...but like I've said before - I don't think anything really good can come of them. The more visits he takes, the longer he waits, the less likely he is to be N. We've pitched our product countless times. This is why a used car dealer doesn't let you walk out the door to think about it, the odds are you won't be back. I was recruited to a company a few years ago. Trips to resorts for "meetings" and "conferences". Kobe steak, lobster, crab, sushi at every meal. All expenses paid for a night out in Orlando, etc, etc, etc. Myself and 3 of their VP's and execs had tabs topping $1,000 at every dinner. After going through it 1 time...I'd never want to do it again. The steak's good, the beer goes down nice...but it is what it is. It's not a "once-in-a-lifetime" opportunity for him because he's going to try and experience it 5 times. It's the same thing, different day.
  13. A weakened Big12 - something I'd never really thought about. Good post. We would certainly have a unique recruiting base as far as the Big10 is concerned. We wouldn't have to fight Michigan/Ohio St. for the 4&5* players up there. Outside of Missouri, we'd be the only ones really recruiting Kansas/Texas/Oklahoma to the Big10. We'd be a niche product. Might be an easier sell. If you'd like to play in the tradition-rich Big10, Nebraska is your first and most logical choice.
  14. The die-hards will still travel, but I'm sure some regular joe from Nebraska would much rather head to the warmth of Dallas in November than deal with the start of winter in Ann Arbor. A lot of Nebraskans use Husker games as a reason to 'vacation'. Not sure there would be that same draw throughout the Big10, though the campuses and locations are beautiful I'm sure. Personally, if I was going to go to a game for just the game and not the beach/pool and other stuff that goes along w/ the trip...I would take a Big10 game over almost every Big12 game any Saturday of the season. Norman would be hard to beat...but I'd love to see the Huskers play in Ann Arbor, or South Bend. Even the games against your 'so-called' bottom dwellers offer a great destination. You aren't going to Manhattan (KS), Waco, OK City, College Station, Lawrence, Aims, Columbia (prolly would still have that trip). You're going to Chicago, Minneapolis, Madison, Columbus, Bloomington, Lafayette. It's not warm, but why leave the country (Nebraska) to head to the prarie? There is far more of a draw to Big10 destinations IMHO. Husker fans could take over magnificent mile in Chicago before a Northwestern game.
  15. I don't think we "need" Texas recruiting in any way...and the gains we'd have in Michigan/Ohio/Illinois would certainly make up for any losses in Texas. We can recruit Florida today. We can recruit Cali. We'd still be able to recruit Texas, but, I'm sure it would have somewhat of a negative impact. In regards to Texas recruiting not much positive can come of joining the Big10. I've read a lot of articles where someone interviews a Texas recruit after visiting NU and they mention that even if they went to NU they would be playing close to home a couple times a year so their family could still make it to games. That goes a long ways. Even if a kid remains in Texas...their family more than likely will only get to see them play live a couple times a year. Most families just can't afford to go to 6-7 games a year. So currently, there really isn't that much of a difference between playing for NU and playing for A&M for a lot of these kids. However, once in Big 10 the number of times you're family gets to see you play "live" is greatly reduced. The counter to this argument is that the number of times your family will get to see you play on TV will be greatly increased. How often do we lose kids to homesickness? Seems like 1 or 2 drop every year. Playing in the Big10 would comletely seperate these Texas kids from everything they've associated football with their entire life. Imagine saying to a kid...draw a line from the east coast directly to Lincoln. Then draw a line from Lincoln to Canada. This is the world you'll live in from now on. Kind of isolating.
  16. Completely understand where you're coming from. Only time will tell - and time is what the coaches are probably asking Davie to give them...and more than likely what he is asking them to give him. Little time, 1 more season and he'll prove himself. I'm assuming you're talking about the senior when you mentioned rushing for over 100ypg? My guess is as good as yours, but a lot of HS kids across the state rush for 100ypg. To get a scholarship out of these smaller schools you have to possess something that is going to make a difference. I don't think the question with Davie will ultimately be "Does his production justify an offer?" which is often the case when evaluating talent because it's easier to compare numbers - I think it will be "Does he possess the physical tools to be a game changer? (mainly his speed)". Personally, my opinion of his value is based solely on his speed. The rest I'm hopeful he can develop. Until recently we have been so outmatched when it comes to speed and athletism that you just have to shake your head. Pelini's addressed that more than anything in my opinion.
  17. We need more quality Nebraska recruits so the board can explode more often. As for Curtis Carter - I saw him drop plenty of balls in his combine video. Just because he had a better production crew cutting his highlights film means nothing. As for Davie's film, remember the Ralston game was the first of the season. Sexton (their coach) is quoted as saying the KO return was "all" Davie's athletic ability. Cody Walters had almost a 100 yards in the game, in addition to the 100+ put up by Jace Bowhay (Sr.). There were 6 takeaways in the game, a couple of them returned for touchdowns in addition to Davie's 99 yard KO return. From the sound of things this isn't the type of team that scores conventionally so I wouldn't expect monster stats out of that game. The reason Davie's rushing stats aren't huge (besides the fact that he probably plays mostly defense at this point) is that Bowhay gets most of the carries. Like teachercd mentioned, trust has a lot to do w/ it, and a junior isn't going to get the carries over a senior when that senior is averaging over 100ypg. The one game Davie did get a lot of touches he had 150 yards. "At one point, Daniel (Davie) carried the ball eight times in a row," Sexton said. "He’s finding out what it’s like to be a workhorse, too." It's obvious he's young and still building that "status" that is so important in small town HS football. Bowhay will be gone this year, expect Davie to easily eclipse 1,000 yards this year and satisfy your thirst for huge numbers. His receiving stats might not be spectacular either - but probably because of lines like this: McClure was 7-for-11 passing for 106 yards with Davie catching three passes for 80 yards. When you account for almost 80% of your team's passing yardage and only tally 80 yards there isn't much more you can do as a player. Or this one: McClure was 9-for-13 in passing for 202 yards. Davie caught three passes for 99 yards. 50% of the offensive production through the air. Not bad yards-per-catch either. I'd say some of that must be speed. I see where you are coming from on the stats. They are not impressive but I think they are adequate considering the situation he is in. I don't entirely agree with you when you say he should be "tearing it up" in class B if he is such and impressive athlete. It sounds like when the situation presents itself he is able to take advantage of it and tear it up, unfortunately the situation doesn't present itself often. Matt May never tore it up in Imperial, Ben Eisenhart rarely in Culbertson, both small town schools but both were spectacular athletes. Taylor Dixon is from that area as well. All had decent numbers but weren't "tearing it up" - Standard w/ his 2800 tears it up in St. Louis. This is one of those times when I understand the coaches wanting to wait to offer him. They probably know he has the raw skills to be productive, they would just like to see him prove himself some more. That's not too much to ask and I wouldn't think Davie would object to that. I think this guy, physically shows more potential than Lampkin, but Lampkin has the numbers we like to toss around on this board. It's just a matter of opinion. I hope Davie puts up 1500 this year and make the decision much easier for the coaches - because he's got Tyler Evans by about 2 steps, and he was worthy of a scholarship on a short year. Davie should get one in a year we aren't as tight.
  18. Can't teach speed. I think you'd have a hard time finding a kid that can run a 10.38 anywhere on that Rivals board. Tyler Evans ran around a 10.9-11.0. Eric Crouch (you might remember him) ran a 10.82 & 10.96 at state. Davies is much faster, he's been consistently under a 10.7 from what I can find. Like I said, I have no idea if that 10.38 was wind aided...but regardless that's smoking. You look at the Drake Relays a few weeks ago, Mat Clark won the 100 w/ a 10.95. The 100-Meter record at UNL is "only" 10.16. Maybe Davies, belongs on the track team - but you can't argue the fact he's one heck of an athlete. Everyone gushes over some Louisiana kid that can run a 4.4 40 (Curtis Carter), but the Nebraska kid that can do the same (or faster) isn't that impressive. The coaches can work w/ a raw product, the've shown that. At least we know Davies would still be on the team 4 years from now vs. a Florida speadster that misses home and the sunshine. He deserves a look if for no other reason than he'd be the fastest guy on the team from day 1.
  19. some people might, but if you watch him in his film or a real game (I've watched him twice) he definatly is talented enough and a playmaker. He would make a good addition to our wr's or as a safety. Think he could be a Devin Hester or Percy Harvin type? WR/return man? Sounds like he's a burner. All class state record is 10.5 - Kelly Yancy in 1989. Says here he ran a 10.38. (wind aided)?
  20. Hmmm...where was that at? At what point did I say how many offers they should send out? I said how many offers they DID send out last year because Rivals turned off the count (which was very useful so not really sure why they did that). That I confess. The other stuff is just you making assumptions and twisting things into something they aren't. I'm done though - I give up on this one. Before you know it you'll find something I said and turn it into me saying our coaches hate puppies, touch little boys or some other obscure stretch of the imagination.
  21. Read the post 'dude'. I never said I was getting tired of trusting the coaches. To sum it up since you probably won't take the time, or can't comprehend it anyway - I said I get tired of someone trying to argue their point with "trust the coaches". That in no way contributes to the discussion. I'm quite confident that every single person here trusts the coaches (at least about 99% of the time anyway) - so you don't need to tell me you trust the coaches...I already know that. It just get's old every time someone mentions anything negative about a recruit seeing the same "insightful" theory of "trust the coaches" offered up, which usually just kills the discussion anyway...and the discussion is the point of a board and forum. If it was just about facts and updates we'd have a news feed. Wow did you go internet tough guy on me? classic. Ummm, if you already know that we (yourself included) trust the coaches, then why are you not trusting the coaches? Don't get me wrong, I know what you are trying to say, you just dont know how to say it. Look, you finding fault with a recruit or something negative with a recruit means probably close to nothing because we can assume you have no experience with finding recruits or coaching. I could be wrong though. I have coached football for 10 years now and I still find it very very hard to predict how younger players will develop as they grow and mature. But I can read 100 posts on here with lots of "experts" telling me how a kid plays with his hips high, or doesnt "explode" off the ball." Its like everyone here is a college coach. Input is one thing and opinion is one thing but if you trust the staff like you claim then I would imagine your "issues" with a player would go away until a later date when/if they dont pan out. Now, since you just got smacked around a bit I am going to assume you will be bitter and jaded but instead of ruining this thread with that bitterness just PM if you still want to tell me something. If not, then lets just drop it. It is usually annoying when people consider their own opinion as "insightful" and "adding to the discussion" when it is really just a chance to spout off and pretend like they know something about a kids ability to play from a 3 minute video. I'd like you to read the thread and find the point in here where I offered up an opinion on Worthy's ability to play football. I was merely commenting on Vince's opinions and that of others. I guess anyone that doesn't put forth a completely supportive comment of a recruit just isn't trusting the coaches and should stfu.
  22. I certainly hope you're right. I hope Sterup has a good enough head on his shoulders to understand that the class is close to being full on the OL, and they are going to be picky at this point. UCLA would sound pretty impressive to a kid from Hastings...and I'm not talking about the football aspect of it. He has to consider his future and if Nebraska wants to be a part of that then it's their gain - but at this point it doesn't look like it will be his loss if they don't. He'll end up somewhere with a solid program so good for him. At least he knows that and can wait until camp. If that offer doesn't come quickly after I'm guessing he'll move on. If I was him I'd be seeing Stanford and UCLA the first week school lets out rather than sit around waiting on NU though.
  23. so...what you're saying is you "trust the coaches"
