  1. No, it's not odd. It's a direct result of indictments by a grand jury.

This. It's not odd just a coincidence. This was an investigation at the state level not the school or town. A grand jury investigation is basically a trial to see if a criminal trial can be held. From my understanding they determine if there is enough evidence present to take the case to trial. So it takes as long as it takes, and this is when they finished with their findings.

  2. Sorry to him go out like this. I find it puzzling how ESPN can go from "Fire Joe" this morning to "he didn't do anything wrong" making him out to be a victim. Classic ESPN

Their about face is idiotic to say the least, way to play the field.

But reading the report and putting all emotion aside you can not say with any certainty what Joe was told by the GA and if he new the gravity of what he was told. It's not an excuse but it sounds like he heard enough to know that someone higher needed to be informed of it, and he maybe justed wanted to wash his hands of it and keep his nose clean. There just isn't enough detail in the report from the GA or Paterno to draw a definitive conclusion about what was said. Either way it's just really disgusting and disturbing to read.

The BoT either knew more than they are telling, or they are just trying to save face and everyone that acted questionably is going.

  3. I am talking more to the cover up that is being talked about up there. He made it a point not to speak about it. If there is no legal action that can be done to Joe Pa, then you would have to think that there is more information to protect them against any recourse from Joe Pa. It was even brought up regarding any payment with this firing.,

That's kind of what I was trying to allude to as well I guess. The way his press conference was cancelled an hour before just seem really strange. But then again Joe himself could have held an impromptu conference when ever he wanted with all that press following him.

  4. I love listening to the Penn state speaker try to convince us that he made this decision with just the information that is available to the public. This thing is going to be huge as it relates to the amount of people that are involved and that will be ultimately brought down for this.

That doesn't sit well with me. I haven't read the report, but no one has gave a definitive answer as to what Joe knew and didn't know about the situation. This could just be me playing devils advocate because I like to give people a chance, and I like believe in the good in everyone, but how could you come to this conclusion without ever hearing the words directly from his mouth about the event. Maybe they did here his account or maybe it was all there in the grand jury report, but at this point from a layman's view it seems like only Joe knows what Joe knows if you understand what I saying.

Don't get me wrong I'm not by any mean at all condoning what people have done here, WAY too many people just turned a blind eye to this.

Maybe legally they can't say now.

Probably, I'm just for due process and right now from our point of view it seems like he hasn't had a chance for that.

    *edit*

It probably would have come to this anyway but a little transparency goes a long way.

  6. This is one of those games where there is no honor to be found for us. if we win we beat a team that's been hounded by outside events losing their leader and mentor, and maybe for some seeing the ugly side of someone they thought was a legend. If we lose, well, just look at the threads that came from the last game.

  7. I'll bite I guess.

They've shown improvement almost every year and have made it to confrence championship games, which is the first step. I think it's just a matter of figuring out how to compete consistently in those games and a little luck. Given a few more years I think Nebraska will consistently be at the top again. Bo and co are a young bunch, they just need a little time.

  8. I think this is dumb anyway. If offense is standing up looking at the sideline don't you think the defense might do the same.

I definitely would. Why wouldn't you? And if the signals are capable of being figured out, that's our fault not theirs.

The more I think about this, I recall thinking in the stands how odd it was that a team that was so horrid on defense could be stuffing us every play. That first possession where we went three-and-out was shocking to me. They had more guys on the ball than Michigan State. This would explain (partially, the line still played like crap) some of what happened, but it's OUR fault that they figured out our signals, not theirs.

You know I was kind of baffled by this. There were times throughout the game where they would have 9 guys in the box before we made the check to the sideline and we had clear one on one coverage with the outside receivers, yet we still tried to run it at them. I hoped that haven't told Taylor to all together scrap audibling to his little throw it up there fade pass, because against a secondary like Northwestern I think it could have been a killer. I'm kind of hoping this was another learning experience for Beck that he can takes some good notes from.

  9. Yeah it was nice to see him out there, I'd have to say Steinkuhler had a pretty decent game as well. He was pushing around their line for most of the game.

First half definitely not he was getting owned, second half he seem to wake up and give more effort.

  10. He knew this and waited until after the game to bring it up. This is a lame excuse.

What? You want him to grab the sideline reporter and hold an impromptu conference in the middle of the game? He said they mixed things up so he and the coaches were obviously on to it.

I figured out Northwestern's signs. One had race cars on it and another had the word racer, guess what play it was! That damn counter play...

  11. And with this the discussion goes to 7 pages...

I find this amazing. One game, after having beat MSU and OSU. One game.

It's crazy isn't it? Either half the board forgot to take their prozac or bipolar meds or (glaring generality here) the farmers are done with havest and don't have anything better to worry about at the moment.

  12. Thank you roumdegotrip you said it much more kindly then I was going to. Forge you want to rethink what you said? Three of those coaches you listed are in new roles and another, Dobson, is the strength and conditioning coach who, I would love to see your counter to this, has done a pretty bang up job for us this year. And Garrison is essentially in a new role as well, so that really only leaves one coach in a "familiar" role, Cotton, who many have had issue with for some time.

  13. Glad you "Bo's gotta go" are'nt the Athletic director! Who do you want ! Urban Meyer said no once, he would probably say NO again. Bo will be fine.

I think he deserves 2 more years, but I would like to know what your assumption that "Bo will be fine" is based on? And I'm not trying to be a smart ass or anything like that. I would legitimately like to know what you have seen so far that makes you think this.

Maybe the fact that he has shown improvement almost every year barring last year which was basically a repeat of the previous, with some questionable games seemingly outside of his control. Or how about the fact that his team is basically starting fresh this year with a new offensive scheme/coordinator, WR coach, and basically a new RB coach, and the defense is replacing two standout DB along with their coach, a new LB coach and again essentially a new D line coach. So basically if you look at the D you could easily argue that everyone is trying to find their groove and get things to mesh, players and coaches alike. Like someone before mention they still have a chance to go 12-2, 11-2, or 10-3 and that is an improvement over last year. As long as he shows improvement every year I have no problem with Bo, and a few 9 or 10 win regular seasons are to be expected in any AQ conference. The competition is that good from just above the bottom to the top. Every program/coach has it's ups and down look at Texas/Brown, Oklahoma/Stoops, LSU/Miles hell I can remember in 2009 and even last year to some extent most fans wanted Les gone but now he has them on the cusp of another title. Everything is cyclical all we need is a little time.

  14. Wasn't it Thorell who set the tone for the MSU game with that pick? That play was HUGE. A little crow anyone?

Nice try but no. No one in here said anything that wasn't true or didn't hold true for almost the entire secondary. These guys as a whole finally started playing to their potential last game. And Lance's pick did help to jump start the D but I think Fonzie and Green really helped set the tone through out the game with the way they stepped it up. They both had mistakes but they really kept the pressure on the whole game.

  15. Like everybody else said the side judge has the final word. But not having seen the picture there are two other things that you have to considered. The black line on TV is not official for the LOS and centers typically move the ball when they are getting set, sometimes a foot or more from where it originally started at in either direction.

  16. knapplc reminded me that one of the most blatant fake injuries was a couple years back when Suh noticed we had the wrong personnel in and suddenly developed a cramp to stop play and get the right player in. Of course he had to leave but I think we had a bad mismatch on a good receiver.

Suh "got injured" because someone (Asante?) was banged up pretty bad, almost out on their feet, and he wouldn't leave the game. I am totally drawing a blank on who it was, but it was a big collision and our guy was loopy. They were trying to get him off the field but I think he was seeing little birdies, not his teammates.

IIRC, the injured guy was in the secondary, on the right side of our defensive formation. I really want to say it was Larry Asante but I can't be sure. Suh went down, but they sent two groups of trainers out, one to Suh and the other to the guy who was really injured.

It was actually Dennard and he hurt his arm or his shoulder don't remember which. But at the time I was pretty impressed that he wanted to stay in with such obvious pain, and he was in my opinion still better with one arm than the alternative that replaced him.

As for the injuries last Saturday, I didn't really think anything of them at the game. It was a really physical hard hitting game, it seemed like every yard either team got was earned and pads were popping every play. And you can forget that Michigan State had been through the ringer the previous two weeks and they're bodies were probably dinged up pretty good already.

  17. Fact of the day 31 October 2011:

In celebration of Halloween: Nebraska is 15-1 in games played on the 31st of October with an average score of 21-8...oh and their only loss was to... the TEXAS LONGHORNS :o:hookerhorns

Was there that night, but was too concerned with trick or treating afterwards to remember that much, but I do remember being dissapointes and Ricky Williams running wild.

  18. he forgot he plays for Neb.... Its something done by most of the programs that have things on their gloves (ie oregon, Osu, Ou, etc).

    Ohio-State-Nike-Pro-Combat-Gloves-2.jpg

Except, NU hasn't worn their gloves that make the logos yet. The gloves they have worn all year are plain on the palm side.

Actually I believe we wore them for the osu game but Dennard was the only one to flashed them after SJB's TD
