  1. Voted for everyone but Blatchford, just never been thrilled with him when he's on the field yet. Basically it would be nice to see all the young guys get in there and get some reps, especially Heard coming of of his infection. And hopefully if some of the walk-ons traveled get them out there to and reward them for putting in their time.

And one you didn't include that I would really like to see get more reps is Trevor Roach. I thought he showed some promise early in the year and I've just been waiting for him to bump Fisher off.

  2. I Played with John Turek he was a junior and I was a freshman. in the Winter during Christmas break they need someone to scrimmage so I a 160lb 6'0 freshman was guarding a 6'11'' all state junior. Not very fun!!

Sheesh you were scrawny. When I was 6 foot I was probably 250lb wasn't really fat but I was a bigger kid, granted I was probably a junior by that time.

  3. Don't remember specifically playing against them because they're all a year under me and I didn't really pay attention to who was on another team, but I played teams with Mike Caputo (Millard North, hardest hitting team we ever played and either class A state champs or runner up don't remember), Austin Cassidy (Southeast), Baker Steinkuler (Southwest), and anybody from Lincoln public schools, Norfolk, North Platte, Grand Island, or Bellevue West that graduated last year.

Jim Ebke was my QB for my senior year and I remember getting him at least one TD but mostly just trying not to get him killed. And I played midget and HS football with Sam Meginnis.

Played against Tyler Wortman and Todd Peterson.

Have a buddy from GICC that swears Peterson was a baby and cried or something during one game.

  4. OP I understand and somewhat agree with you. But if you're in an AQ confrence and undefeated I think it's only fair that you be close to the other undefeated AQ's. Eventually things will even out because you'll have to play decent teams at some point. It usually balances out at the end of the year for some reason.

  5. eh, how's he supposed to answer? I think he did as well as he could, saying he's sorry, and thinking about his former teammates and rooting for them, but also has to concentrate on what's ahead for him. Seriously, what is a better answer?

Take some ownership for it and admit that you let them down, and either didn't want to go back or couldn't face going back.

  6. I've loved reading this thread, and we really need more threads like this. I'd just like to throw in that Beck is making the offense fun again, and he has a lot of potential to be an outstanding OC for us. Awesome discussion guys!

My favorite thing about Beck is that he admits his mistakes, and is honest when answering questions about it. He's a stand up guy, and in a few years, when his gameplan/management/discipline matures, he will be one deadly coach.

I only wish that if/when he gets there that we could hold on to him for decades. But in this day and age a coach/coordinator that sticks around after years of success is few and far between.

Maybe he'll groom one of the position coaches to take his place. Someone like, I dunno... Barney Cotton!

About that... Nothing against Barney, but that doesn't seem to work out that well very often either.

  7. That really does suck for the team and especially for him personally. But I think we've got some pretty good talent behind him and they have actually seen the field this year and gained some experience so we should be in good shape. Hopefully he can be a good mentor to those guys and provide some more sideline coaching.

  9. I love how Beck is seemingly making offense sexy again at NU. Compared to almost the last decade where it's been a migraine.

And to think people were up in arms about Beck last week and throughout the OSU game prior to the comeback.

He's definitely still growing, and I can see some slip ups here and there in the future, but you'd have to be blind not to see his potential.

I like what Tim Beck has done with the offense. When it's going, it's going. And people were doubting him, wasn't he the OC for the Kansas team that won the Orange Bowl?

According to Huskers.com he was officially a receivers coach and was promoted to pass game coordinator.

  10. Arizona confirmed Monday it has fired coach Mike Stoops after the team started 1-5 this season.

Almost a year ago, the Wildcats were 7-1 and ranked in the top 15, but has since gone winless in 10 consecutive games against FBS opponents.

Haven't seen this posted yet. I understand he was on the hot seat, but why you fire a coach in the middle of the year if there aren't serious abuses going on just doesn't make much sense to me.

  11. So in this thread I've learned one very important thing.

  12. I think Denard Robinson is gonna have a field day on us.

Yup - this game will come down to turnovers. We'll get our 10-12 possessions, we need to score on 8 of them, because they'll score on nearly ever possession as well. A turnover and we flip the score by 10-14 in this game.

I agree and the good part for us it that Robinson has thrown 3 more picks than Martinez this year, hopefully our secondary can keep the momentum going and improve enough to make him one dimensional.

  13. Just for reference, I know it's not the pistol or Diamond/full house but as has been mention these are basically hybrids of wing T formations like the Navy, Georgia Tech have ran. If I can find one out of the Diamond formation I'll put it up for you.

*EDIT so there's no triple option in this video but with what Oklahoma has run you can see if you just change the path of one of the backs you now create a pitch man. The only handicap they really have with the Diamond is that Jones isn't much of a run threat. If you pause the first play at about 14 seconds you can see if you take the deep back and have him move to his left instead of blocking right that's your pitch man. Obviously you have to change the blocking up front but that shouldn't be a huge issue.

  14. The triple option play run out of the diamond is just a glorified ZR play with the play side RB or FB blocking while the QB reads the backside DE. After the initial read, the qb then has runs a true pitch option and either keeps or pitches.

Edit: Here we go. A terrible PS job, but it works.

This is the play i was referring to above. Thanks for posting this image definitely makes it easier to understand for me. Going back to the point Enhance brought up would there be enough time to run something like this?

I think you're really too focused on the time aspect. It's not like he's going to sit there for a couple seconds to make a decision on the hand off, It's read the key and make a decision. We ran a zone read triple option out of the shotgun last year and it's a pretty quick play. So yes there should be plenty of time. Just like any play the line has to get their blocks for the play to develop but it should be a pretty bang bang quick hitting play.

  15. Looking at the above photos of the diamond formation made me think....

Is there anyway we could run the read with Taylor and either Green/Abdullah and if Taylor keeps run an option play in the other direction with Burkhead?

In theory that's a cool idea, but in reality I don't know if the time to do this would be available against better defenses. The fake to one of the running backs would have to be as quick as a triple option fake to the full back, and then you'd immediately have to run the option with Burkhead otherwise you'd risk being blown up in the back field. Taking the time to do a full zone read and then go with the option would be a long time.

I think we will probably see this wrinkle. The first option in the triple option is a read similar to the zone read if I'm not mistaken, but as you said you don't have as much time to sit on the ball and make the defender commit. It'd be similar to what is run out of the gun or pistol having the wideout come in motion for the sprint out option with the RB being your first option.

  16. someone said Green had a typical reaction? it wasnt bad was it? I hope he wasnt pouting because he didnt score

As soon as he saw the ball going to Enunwa, he was visibly upset (rightfully so). When Enunwa caught it, he jumped and fist pumped in celebration.

Green's a good kid. I don't expect any character issues with him at all.

Green was basically waving at Taylor from the time he left the LOS, and I was screaming you've got Green! But he was pretty selfless when he saw the TD. And to Taylors credit he anticipated that Enunwa was getting open and let it go at the perfect time.

it sounds like green is demonstrating a competitive attitude rather than a selfish one.

We are in agreement. I like his attitude a lot!

  17. I went with to close too call because even though Miller's performance seemed to be petering out he still could have extended a few drives with his legs. But at the same time I think we would have got a pick had either QB been in, it felt like it was only a matter of time with some of his Miller's throws.
