  1. Despite what chemisrty/physics/engineering says heat does not soften metals and make them structurally weak.

So you're saying blacksmiths just beat the hell out of steel to shape it into form without the help of heat? Or steel mills just squeeze cold metal into shapes without the help of heat?

Yup it's really just black magic and the first man to discover the art form was Mr. Smith, hints the shortening to blacksmith.

  2. I liked playing on grass as long as it wasn't to long, I think I liked it most when it was all muddy and sloppy. If someone could invent a turf that gave you grass stains and got you muddy when it was wet but didn't get sloppy and slick that would be the greatest contribution to human society man kind has ever seen.

  3. From the student perspective since that's where I sat the last 5 years, I would say how loud it gets really depends on the game and time of day. Most conference games and big time non-con games are usually pretty loud, but when they are at 11am it's obviously going to be a bit quieter. And I definitely think the students should be closer I think moving south stadium up was a big mistake.

Really from the student section the only thing that I could complain about was it being too quiet in between plays. We're a bit too nice, we quiet down after the play and let them get the next call in then the noise comes back up. From what I can hear on TV it seems like other big time schools keep the volume up throughout the game, I'm sure they take a break on TV timeouts. But at aTm they were cheering/chanting almost the entire game. I've always thought it would be cool if we could have some kind of chant like they do at soccer games, that would last for a few minutes.

  4. It's pretty sad and disgusting to me that people can believe in these conspiracies. I'll admit that the first time I watched loose change I thought, for lack of a better word, their idea's were "sexy" and it really had my mind racing. But you have to look at a few different things, this is the first time in history that anything like this event on this scale has ever happened. So a lot of things like skyscrapers collapsing the way they did and metals melting have never been seen in this way before. Many of the eye witness testimony they use in those videos comes from immediately after or during the impacts so people aren't exactly sure what they are hearing/feeling nor are have these people witnessed these types of explosions and the destruction that happened before. And the one that really sets my mind at ease is how in the world can you expect a government like ours that's so unorganized all over the place and so overly bureaucratic to accomplish something so massive (rigging multiple skyscrapers) and have it go off without any major snags, or for that matter how could you expect any organization to pull it off.

The truth is people want to believe there is an order to things and that there is a grand master plan by some shadowy figure, but they never want to believe that things are as obvious as they look. For some reason it seems like it's human nature to over complicate and over think the obvious. There was a master plan and there was a shadowy figure and that plan was executed and that figure is now laying at the bottom of the ocean with a couple holes in him.

I may have barely been a teenager when it happened and I may have seen the photage many, many times but to this day as a human being it makes me so sad to think about what those people were going through in those planes and building and on the streets and what their families still go through day to day. But as an American it makes me so proud to know that there were men and women willing to run up those stairs into harms way or to rise up and fight back against those terrorist so that others wouldn't have to suffer the same fate.

On a side note I know everyone here has different musical taste but whenever I listen to Bruce Springsteen's the Rising album it just brings back all those feelings in me and the two songs that really get to me every time are Into The Fire and The Rising. They just fill me with sadness and pride all at once they've almost brought me to tears a couple times thinking about that day.

  5. How bout we dont change and demonstrate through dominance and crushing their souls who NU is and has always been! Not to mention who the real Big Red is too.

    Just saying...

  6. Actually he is crying about how hard student athletes have it; they can't get drunk and throw themselves at women, hold down a job, they have to run in the early morning, etc. The guy just sounds cynical about the whole situation. Furthermore he's a walk-on, he's free to quit at anytime with out loosing a scholarship. It was his choice to participate and he knew the rules/consequences. I played football my whole life too and still love it, but I chose not to in college 1) because with Billy C coaching I would have never sniffed the field 2) I just wasn't as strong or talented as most of those guys and 3) I had an education to focus on, which never got me free gear, paid trips to big cities (with gifts), or access to the facilities that these guys get.

Furthermore what you fail to realize is that "douchebag" Kirk Herbstreit and the following people; Desmond Howard, Mark May, Urban Meyer, Bob Stoops, Bo Pelini, Frank Solich, Tom Osborne, and many others have all been the student athlete and are now in this "hypocritical" position of "profiting" off of these "poor" student athletes. Every single athlete out there has the same potential as all these men, whether or not they take advantage of that is a different story.

  7. I think this fall is the first time we've only had turf. I think they switched out the grass fields last spring; not sure if it was before or after practice.

Wonder if this is partly why we're seeing so many lineman go down. Turf is harder on players' bodies.

I was going to say it's weird that they were watering the turf last fall because I specifically remember dodging the sprinkles through the fence when I walked behind the Cook for class.

And I would think that this turf would actually be better for the body than grass, because of the rubber. It's relatively soft and forgiving compared to dirt and grass. I remember the first time I ever walked on it and played on it at our high school fields and conditioning camps at UNL and it's kind of a weird spongy feeling if you've never experienced it before.

  8. Don't know why I haven't looked at this thread yet, but anyways I went to Grandmothers the other night with the girlfriend to have some nachos and a beer. Was feeling like something different so I asked what they had on tap and the waiter mentioned Schilling Bridge which I had never heard of before, apparently it's brewed in Pawnee City. I'm guessing the kind that I had was Lemon Lime Lager. It was perfect! This stuff is what any lime flavored beer should be like, doesn't have that pine-sol taste like bud light lime. Pretty sweet with excellent flavor and a smooth finish no bitterness whatsoever. It was dark in there but it looked almost like a blond wheat beer with the slight cloudiness too it. I think the best part was when I burped afterward and it tasted like lemon/lime/orange (that citrus taste they have in common).

I would highly recommend this beer if you're looking for a change up for the end of summer and a really refreshing beer. Could of drank 6 or 8 glasses without batting an eye but I had to drive. GF even loved it and she's pretty picky about beer, usually doesn't like my Guinness or wheat beers.

  9. Main Point: I quit my last game early because I was so ticked off. If you want to sim it go ahead otherwise I might try again.

I figured I'd just get that out there because I need to vent. So My first series on offense I come out in the gun nice simple draw play called, I see loose man coverage and change to some quick slants for some easy yardage on the first play. Start the play and my slot man to the left has and good step or two on the man covering him I fire it across the middle into open space, all the while thinking "sweet first play, first down!" next then you know the D speeds up, comes through my receiver and picks it off taking it inside the 5. Needless to say I am not happy but hey I'm only down 2 TD's with a couple minutes left int he first. Come out again and get a nice drive going with some runs and I decide to pass again just to see what I can get. I tried to put some touch on it because it was going over a LB but He skies and picks it off!!! Now I'm flipping sh#t, but I still feel like I can win this. BUT NOOOOOO I proceed to throw 3 more pick and one goes for six, all of them resulted in at least a field goal. And I can't get a run game going to save my life before it's too late. Just ridiculous I haven't touch the game in about 3 or 4 days since I was so mad.

I'm not quitting but I'm pretty sure I've reached the point that I think we need to mess with sliders. I was fine throwing a couple picks a game it happens, but this was crazy.

  10. Oh wow, I was under the impression that this 'computer glitch' screwed you on like a big play or like a game-winnning TD. BUt no, I went back in and checked the score- 56-21!?! Dont think the computer flaws account for a 35 point beatdown, i mean were all playing the same 'flawed' video game, its not like you have the only messed up disk.

Actually that's more often than not how it ends up. You can be doing everything right and the computer will not let you win, it rips off a big run, Linemen don't attempt backfield tackles, RBs break 3+ tackles with settings at balanced, your DBs break coverage, and it all compounds. Then your offense can't complete a pass even if it is perfect and the O Line forgets how to block. Happened to me the first game and I restarted before you said anything because it was ridiculous and it happened to me my last game, but some how I pulled through by running the same draw play over and over. I should have destroyed Hawaii offensively, they were terrible on Defense (rated at a C something I think) but some how they blanked me in the first and held me to a field goal and one TD in the second quarter. I'll give them they're offense because they had one freakishly fast receiver and I got caught in man coverage a few times with nothing over top, but still...

I was going to defend you but you seriously are being a pompous ass right now and I have no idea how you haven't noticed these things yet. Look at more than the score. 28 of those 56 points were on rushes of 50+ yards which means something went wrong whether it was a play call or AI stupidity. And he threw 3 INTs that could have ended TD drives. I would really only consider those related to skill level, because as was mentioned in this thread or another you do have to find a way to get some touch on the ball and that is pretty difficult to do. But even so some passes that look perfected get picked because of clipping issues with the models and DBs having freakish acceleration. Regardless the stats don't really clue us in on what happened, but they do show some fishy stuff, so you can't make a judgment call without having played that game.

  11. So after a week of playing a dynasty with sliders and some roster tweaking I think the fundamental problem with the game no matter what you change is reaction time. But it happens on offense and defense and both contribute to one big cluster f#*k. And they only happen to the Human not the AI as far as I can tell.

First The defense they react instantaneously. Starting with the DL and LBs; the second you hit the button for a receiver the instant the QB's arm begins to move back the jumping animation begins and if they do jump you're screwed Because 99% of the time it will be blocked or tipped and picked.

The DB's; aside from the eyes in the back of their head they aren't quite as bad because realistically they have more time to judge the ball, but on short routs they "anticipate" the route almost perfectly and even if they were a step or two behind when you hit the button for the open receiver they are there in front of him by the time the ball arrives. Because somehow they knew exactly where the route was going and when and where the ball was being thrown before the receiver did.

The other problem is on offense and it affects the running game somewhat but mostly the passing game again. For starters PA will almost never work under a blitz mostly because you have to wait for the animation to complete even though you are done with the fake and have a receiver wide open.

Second If you do make it out of a tackle you're stuck in another animation and the QB has to set his feet for some reason even though he may now have 15 yards to scramble with down field. Not to mention once you do make it out the animation even if you hold down sprint he shuffles around until he crosses the line of scrimmage. (that could be due to the pocket pass tendency and renamed rosters issue, not sure yet)

And if you are strictly passing but under dearest you can hit the button before they get to you and still not pass the ball for a second, resulting in a sack or fumble. not to mention HB screens only work half the time because for some idiotic reason the HB drops the pass that hit his face, or he wasn't looking at you. (but if he was a DB it wouldn't matter because of the eyes in back) And the running issue plays off of this passing issue, but it's always been a gripe I've had, it take to long to cover up a ball/juke/truck before you get tackled. It really makes you feel disconnected from the player.

Now take all that and switch the AI and Human and the results... well they aren't the same my Dline makes no attempt on a tackle a foot away corners get fooled on slants and hitches and the QB is superb with his timing and scrambling. And I know it's a long grip but that really is the basic problem, reaction times. The other stuff like INT's, fumbles, dropped balls is usually a result of this. If they add some form of reaction times for AI next year and tone down the wait for human inputs they could have a near perfect game, play wise.

  12. Somebody had a case of the Mondays... the games frustrating no doubt, but He's right you have to adapt. Hell I have BYU, listed as an air raid offense, and I find myself with an almost balanced offense and a few games I think I had more rushing than passing yardage. Dumb stuff happens and it happens in the real world too you just got to deal with it. Find plays that work and mix em up I really only run more than about 7 or 8 plays, but they're out of different formations and I audible a couple hot routes now and again.

Now you quit and that's your right I hate loosing too, but personally I'd rather finish out the season and see what happens then give in after 4 or 5 games.

  13. Never snuck booze in and only went to one game mildly intoxicated and I didn't enjoy it that much. I felt like I couldn't pay attention and bathroom breaks were annoying.

But I can remember an early season game freshmen or sophomore year this kid I was next to in east stadium reached in his jacket/shirt and this can of keystone comes falling out and lands on the ground. I was pretty impressed that he got that in, he wasn't a very big kid and I think he had jeans on and not cargoes.
