  1. The guy is fast and he is incredible and he was a freshman. I am not sure about the Steve Young comparison, but he is an explosive kid and if KU could take him I would run out and do a happy dance on my porch... Right now.

You're not the first Jayhawk I've heard say that. My Uncle's family in Lawrence was pretty impressed with him too and pretty taken back by his performance against k-state. They couldn't believe how we were so in love with him at the beginning of the year and suddenly everyone wanted him gone by the end.

  2. Don't mean to be rude, but I'm getting kind of sick of hearing the whole greatest fans in college football thing. Don't get me wrong I like the fact that the people in the Southwest corner cheer the other team out no matter what, but if it means I can't heckle the other team and yell obscene things at them from time to time where's the fun in that.

And can you blame people for sitting down on a two or more score deficit, just a few years ago there was no hope for a comeback. It probably became habit.

Truth be told I'm still getting used to the fact that we have a team that can adjust at half time and come back to actually win a game.

  3.

I was also doing it for fun; it's his freaking job. If he can't figure out how to set his feet when he throws, is it because he just doesn't have it in him no matter how hard he works, or because he doesn't care? Because it's got to be one of the two.

Right, it's not because he's a student athlete who has classes and life outside of football... He puts in the hours and effort at practice, the weight room and film studies I'm sure, otherwise I guarantee you Bo would not have him on the field come Saturdays. Not to mention he's got to keep his grades up to even qualify to play. Your asking a 20 year old kid to sacrifice even more of his life than he already has when the vast majority of guys his age are out getting drunk and chasing tale. I think I'll give him a little leeway in his throwing motion and if he decides to work on it... hey, that's ok with me too.

  4. I have seen several people predict that Taylor gets hurt. What kind of crystal ball do you have that you can foresee injuries?

I hurt my ankle pretty bad playing basketball almost 8 years ago. I must have tweaked it when I was walking to class yesterday, because it was hurting me to the point where I was limping for a while. Ankle injuries are something that can stay with you for a long time.

I can't imagine Martinez's ankle standing up to the kind of stress football entails; making cuts, twisting when getting tackled, etc. Most people fail to realize the lingering effects of ankle injuries, once its been injured, its much more likely to become re-injured.

Do you have any idea how many athletes have tweaked an ankle and come back from it in just the last 12 months alone? It happens all the time. People talk about Taylor recovering from this ankle thing like it's a complete long shot and will probably never happen... EVERY athlete hurts an ankle at some point. Many have hurt their ankles WORSE than Taylor and went on to have successful careers with no or limited lingering effects. He hurt his ankle, couldn't heal cause he was playing every week, took a couple months off, got quite a bit better, now he'll take a few more months off and be fine. He's not sitting on a couch all day, he's not going to "tweak" it walking to class.

Well if you want another anecdotal story that would support him recovery almost fully. I got a high ankle sprain my senior year of high school the first half of the first game. Landed on a pile and someone rolled over my lower leg and it made a popping sound, I swore I broke the thing because I couldn't put any weight on it. Playing left tackle its a real bitch trying to push off of that thing and fall back on it in pass pro, I can't imagine trying to cut on it at speed like he was asked to do. It took me almost the whole season to fully recover, but after 5 or 6 games it was about 90%. The only lasting effects I've notice are that my right ankle (the one I sprained) is a little bit stiffer than the left. I've played basketball, football, and softball on it for 5 years and never had a problem other than pain from a casual roll of the ankle that goes away after a day or two, and that's more from having loose ankles that have been rolled numerous times playing sports since I was a kid.

Now I think we had a great trainer but obviously he didn't have the equipment and facilities they do at NU so I'm going to go out on a limb and say Taylor's ankle will be just fine come this season.

we are all speculating, injuries can be cronic, we'll just have to wait and see, but it has been 6 months and it still bothers him somewhat.

I'm more concerned with his turf toe being a chronic issue than his ankle at this point. Not sure about the context of Taylor's quote before, but he could be talking about his toe and not the ankle. From more personal experience toes seem to be the one injury that feels fine one week and you land on it just right the next and boom! You're back to square one again with the pain... But like you said it's all just speculation...

  5. As a kid my fondest memories where of the afternoon kickoffs to the Stone's Start Me Up, but I think those are better for suited for the first couple warm-up games. The atmosphere of night games just oozes big time game to me. People are loose and actually awake and cheering. And dare I say most of the gray-hairs are probably at home because the game will go past their bed time. The Oklahoma game is the prime example I've been to so far, simply electric!

Although if you do go in the day time like it was mentioned earlier you get the chance for some crazy weather in October and November like we had at the texas game in '06 I believe; bright and sunny then light snow, then heavy snow and some wind, then sun and a heart break.

  6. Martinez

Ball security is obviously an ongoing issue.....

That picture is taken out of context. Taylor was basically blindsided on the play because no one bothered to pick up the blitz. You can hardly expect a guy to tuck the ball when he's looking down field to make a play and someone is coming free off the edge behind him that he expecting to get blocked.

  7. Honestly not a fan of the brick face of the east stadium, keep the stone look, the stadium has no brick anywhere else, so keep the flow.

True, but the horseshoe loop that runs in front of the stadium is paved with bricks and from the looks of it the entrance is only going to be about 50 feet from the street so it does tie the two together. Not to mention a lot of the sidewalks in campus are outlined with brick. I agree it looks a little different but that may be where the designers were coming from, trying to tie the campus into the stadium.

  8. Come on guys let's get the facts straight here a Holstein is a cow not a pig, comparing her to either of those animals is just disrespectful to those fine beasts. But either way she is a disgusting skank, and if you think that's harsh well I'm sorry but that's exactly what she is. That's the nicest word I could think of with out burning up the language filters. I despise this show with an absolute passion. I really don't care for mtv anymore and this is one of the biggest reasons why (not to mention that teen mom garbage and the fact that they don't really play music anymore ):rant

I had honestly never heard of her until the South Park episode. They did a pretty good job with her portrayal too.

  9. It would be nice if we could somehow flag the threads as news posts though. By the time I come here I've usually already read all of these articles, yet there are 15 new "topics" which aren't really topics. It's hard to differentiate between the news article threads which don't really spawn much discussion and an actual topic that was posted.

    My 2 cents.

    +1

  10. Just saw the episode this afternoon after I heard about it on USC today, but apparently on Monday's show the guys on Pawn Stars bought two pair of Ohio State's gold pants. You know the ones they get for beating Michigan... The kind that Pryor is suspended for selling...

There probably not his or Solomon Thomas's since they have the initials DW and LB respectively, but still pretty interesting. If you can spare a couple grand and a trip to Vegas you two can own a piece of Buckeye tradition! :nanalama

  11. Brandon Spikes actually suspended himself for what it's worth...

But there was pressure put on him from the media when it was caught. Im wondering why there's nothing here...and no its not "They hate us" or "its Bebe's fault"

Very, very true. But it may have had something to do with them being #1? or top 5 at the time?
