There's not time-span on the 85 so I don't think that really tells you anything.  Over four years that's 2 per year, which I'm saying is low.  I would say twice that.  Maybe a bit more.

After watching the interview I will say that in the context of what he was saying it sounds more like what he wants in an ideal scenario and a message to the roster that if you are here they are going to try to develop you. I think it's clear from this year they are not going to sit around and ignore areas we need a big upgrade.

While everyone is on the private QB coach bandwagon (and again, I don't think that makes sense), a name to watch is Glenn Thomas.  He is currently listed as an "offensive assistant" with the Steelers, but was the QB coach and co-OC with Rhule at both Temple and Baylor.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glenn_Thomas_(American_football)

Thomas was then hired by Matt Rhule to coach quarterbacks for Temple. Marcus Satterfield, Temple's offensive coordinator shifted from coaching quarterbacks to running backs after the hire of Thomas.

    Huh, that sounds really familiar.

Don't we also already have an analyst that is a QB coach also? Someone mentioned a name of one our analysts as the first option for QB coach when the season ended.

I think he is so good that he is probably a take no matter what but I think that position is probably the one I'm least concerned about on this roster. We had 2 true freshman who look to be really good players already, and other players like Butler who were able to get good pressure. Would maybe get some more production from James Williams with more playing time as well.

    Add up the pieces:

Uncle Raiola  gets a huge wage increase this week

    +

QB guru Christensen potentially the new QB coach

    +

McCord signs (potentially) and plays 1 year - allowing DR to redshirt

    +

DR coming for an official visit

    DYLAN RAIOLA IS N

    =

    National Championship in 3 years

A guy can dream still....:bigredn:       No bubble bursting allowed until it actually bursts.   This is our post season bowl game.

Hey with the playoffs going to 16 I think just making the playoffs in the next 3 seasons would be huge. Im thinking ranked by the end of next year and then playoffs year 3.

Chatter I heard is that it is some private QB coach that DR currently has.  No clue at all about that just something I saw.  I get so little inside information anymore.

This is the guy mentioned in the other thread. Works with Raiola along with several NFL QBs.

He isn't as good as Ewers but he is way better than what we had. Think maybe our PA connection helped with McCord.

I really don't think Ewers is that good. He has probably the best help of anyone in the nation and played in the league with the worst defenses. Ewers improved a lot this year to get to be an actual good QB but he is far from great. I don't think a team would see more or less success if you switched the 2 QBs this year.

I haven't read the last few pages of this thread. Just logging into the board for the first time since Friday. Is this McCord buzz even halfway legit?

Why would he enter the portal in the first place...and why in the hell would he want to come play for us?

McCord is visiting campus right now, and we are so far the odds on favorite to land him. I dont think anyone can say 100% for sure why but it does seem like he was maybe pushed out a little while OSU looks for a better QB, and also his dad seemed to be upset about something. To me he seems comparable to like a Ewers level QB just with better decision making. He has a solid NFL level arm, but wont just take over a game. OSU usually goes for a QB that in college does more than that.

  8. From all the info I have seen we have money in NIL for the top QBs. The issue is when a QB like Ward has the top schools also going after him offering the same money he is going to go to a school with much better offensive weapons and just a general better set up for success.

So have we officially blame S&C yet for having to field a 3rd string team all season?

No we are blaming turf at this moment in time. Our record next year will determine how much blame needs to be assigned following the season.

  10. Man why would a DC want to go on that staff? There is clearly something going on with how Riley runs that team that is not conducive to having a good defense. They have had good coordinators and elite players and just have never put a good defense together. Grinch was getting legit HC buzz and has a lot of stink on him now he will have to work to build his name back up.

Completely disregarded that our offense was awful and our defense should have been much better than any stats could show. Also scoring is up from over a decade ago…

Which year are you saying our offense was awful?

Getting Howard and then a younger guy who can compete with Kaelin down the road wouldn't be bad.

Howard is a slam dunk imo. He ticks every box for a QB we need. The only issue I have with him would be injury concerns, but if we have Howard and could get a younger QB and keep Purdy I would feel very secure in the QB room next year. I don't think we are going to attract a QB that is better than Howard.

A post I saw on 247 regarding the total offensive rankings of a Satt led offense. Of these seasons: 2013, 2014, 2015, 2021, 2022, & 2023 his best offense was 75. That was 2022. We finished the year 110/130s. Believe he also led back to back season of a team having one of the highest turnover rates in the country.

Yeah the guy is great coach.

I would rather have goddamn Brian Ferentz

Look I don't think Satt is the long term answer at all, but I think right now he is calling an offense complimentary to what Rhule wants to do and trying to make something work with the personnel that we have. We went from 122nd last year in TOP to 44th this year. I think we committed to slowing down the game to help out a defense that played well but could definitely get abused in the right circumstance. I also know the turnovers are the biggest issue but I'm not sure what you can point out specifically in his offense that is the cause of them.

I don't think Rhule is just ignoring the issues with our offense and pretending everything is fine. I trust Rhule to have a long term plan because we have the evidence that he knows how to do that.

I think that’s not fair. I get the thinking, but a bowl is a privilege, and I don’t think losing teams should have such a privilege. Six wins is all it takes now, and if you can’t even achieve that, you don’t deserve a bowl.

I dont care who deserves what. If we won 0 games this year and were offered free extra practices I would take them and not even ask why.

I have to believe the stats probably would have had us at a 99.9% probability to beat or go to overtime against Iowa before Chubba's pick.

I believe we were something like over 85% likely to make a bowl game before the MSU game.

Looks like the highest probability we hit all game according to ESPN was 58% directly after the Hill pick. Probably would have been high 80s if the holding was not called.

Tommy Hill going from a player used as a gadget on offense and an afterthought overall to locking down a side of the field and getting 4 ints on the year.

DL going from a perceived deficiency to the best group on the team.

Bryce Benharts improvement and just being healthy so we didn’t have to worry about another back up on the oline.

Hill even made what should have been a bowl game securing pick. That would have been the play of the year.
