good point. nothing is the coach's fault. why did we fire frost? he wasn't on the field losing.

crazy to see northwestern make a bowl, must have better players and not the disadvantages at neb.

That was quite a jump from what I asked. So you have no one?

Yeah it is crazy northwestern made one and we beat them.

I didn’t comments about no making a Heisman finalist and being mad.  Maybe you could link to those:dunno.

At least for me.  If he stays, awesome!   I think he could be productive.   If he leaves, his production SO FAR, can easily be replaced.

Who do we have that could replace his production?

Man, some of the idiotic comments about Fidone (including a couple right on this page). The guy is basically playing his first year of college ball after having to take two years off, and they're apparently pissed that he didn't make the Heisman finals or something?

Yeah Fidone bailed out HH at least a few times on wild passes. He had a few drops but we also had a QB that could somehow overthrow his athletic 6'6" TE.  He looks like a baby giraffe out there at times so I would be willing to bet he is only starting to get into his potential.

  4. What is interesting on the special teams is it seems we get closer and closer to getting game changing punt blocks every week. We even had the very possible game winning block set up this week and the player just didn't lay out for it. The return game is terrible though. As bad as it has ever been.

Rhule did go out and get Sims as his starting QB.  That is who he wanted to lead this team.

Rhule wanted Caleb Williams I'm sure. He chose who he could get after being out of the CFB game for 3 years. Portal QBs are being recruited at the beginning of the season. The likelihood of finding a good one with no ties coming in as late as Rhule did are basically nil.

Frost had already recruited Martinez so he had a leg up and Martinez was shaky on Tennessee.

I thought under Pelini there was a guy or two that decommitted and ended up signing with us on signing day anyway. Can't remember who and don't care to take the time to figure it out, but I sort of remember something like that happening.

    Maybe Stanley Morgan

What are you talking about? It was 10-10 before Purdy's pass. A FG gives you the lead and likely the game.

This coaching staff is terrible at game management, losing to the easiest schedule they will ever face.

And tonight they couldn't have coached worse under two minutes if they tried. It's pathetic.

Maryland drove down and kicked a FG. It would not have won the game. It's literally what happened. In fact Maryland was close enough to easily try for a TD so a FG had a not small chance of not even forcing OT last week.

I think people were more pissed at the playcall, but I can’t speak for everyone.

The point of the playcall is running last week is basically conceding for the FG and this week they gave themselves chances at a TD but ran the clock all the way down to give Wisconsin no chance after they have moved down the field easily the last few drives.

The issue is that the macro game management was terrible.

We went for 7 last week when 3 wins the game, we went for 3 tonight when 7 wins the game.

This coaching is pathetic and is astounding that it can be this poor at this level of football. Nebraska isn't going to make a bowl game with the easiest schedule imaginable because the coaches are clueless on how to manage games.

Last week they made a FG. It would not have won the game. I'm not sure why that's so hard for people to understand.

  9. People were pissed when we didn't go for a chance at OT last week and tried to go for the win and then pissed this week when we killed the whole clock and sent it to overtime being conservative. Sounds a lot like just being upset about the result and then working backwards from there to decide what you "would have" done

No doubt we left some W’s on the table this year. We aren’t the only fanbase complaining. So what do we do about it? What are the coaches and players we need?

I’m ready to grab Willy Korn (great name for NU) and his QB Salter from Liberty. I also add Paul Chryst.  Satterfield and Raiola are out. Transform this offense now.

And protect Coach White. If he gets poached then we may again have a defensive mess on our hands. Teams will be coming for him so be smart and let’s continue to rebuild the Blackshirts as that side of the ball has played well.

I want to comment on this because I see a lot of people at least allude to this sentiment. Rhule has set up a good defense everywhere he has been. Every single time he has had underrated players come in and contribute early. White is an amazing coach,  but there is a reason Rhule always had a good DC and why Tony White chose Nebraska.

With a third string QB with little snaps during the week and turnovers all game, running the ball would have been the smart play.  Who knows, they may have even gotten a TD with how they were running on that drive.  Even with just the FG, I think at most Maryland just sends it into overtime.

Do you disagree with the pass plays that got us into that position? If we got picked on those it would have pretty much been an automatic loss.

If we think about this logically, a FG at best actually gives them the win. At worst, a FG forces the other team to have to score. That's a completely different dynamic in a game atmosphere because it puts most of the pressure on the opposing offense.

Are you suggesting it's better they turned the ball over and let Maryland win in regulation? I don't really get it. A Nebraska FG in that situation would've objectively been a good thing.

Maryland had scored 10 points the whole game up to that point. I don't personally care that much about how well a team moves the ball between the 25's. I care about the points and having more than the other team at the end.

Sure you can argue the pressure it puts to be up and that could have helped, but getting into FG range was not an issue for them. The point about them moving the ball up to the 30 is that's all they needed for a FG. They could have kicked probably 3 more FGs in that game.

I'm not saying a FG is bad but I don't think it is a win like everyone is acting like it is. A TD in that scenario puts way more pressure on them and our defense kept them out of the end zone well all game. It's the risk vs the outcome. A TD there I think gives us our best shot out of any scenario at a win. You play for the win.

90-yard drives tend to feel hollow when they end in turnovers.

This is more about situational football and understanding what it takes to win. I'm usually the first person to defend play-calling (often times, it's a low-hanging fruit criticism), but this isn't one of those circumstances. That was objectively poor play calling and game management at the end. You gotta know when to fold your hand and take your winnings. That was one of those moments.

The issue is, a FG at best would have took this game to OT. Do you like our chances in OT vs Maryland?

Their offense had very little problem moving the ball up to about the 30 yard line all game and they had the wind. The likelihood of a FG outright winning that game to me is almost nil.

  14. Maryland drove down the the red zone and ran the clock out. Y'all really are acting like they would not have had a really good chance at a TD there. I have 0 problem with calling a pass on that play. It's funny how there is no credit for calling a drive that took us to the 5 yard line with a 3rd string QB, HB, and backups all over the oline. Get a good QB on this team and these are blowout wins with nothing else changing.

My speculation on Taylor was that after he got hurt the coaches told him he had to avoid taking so many hits so that's what he was trying to do.  But he could never get the timing right on when to give up on a run so it always looked awkward.

It is pretty bizarre that HH looks eerily similar lately trying to avoid taking a big hit.  It's like they've never had to do that before and they just can't bring themselves to get what they can then get on the ground.

It seems like to me he just has a bit of decision paralyzes at times just in general. He has so few starts that you would think he will improve, but every QB has a ceiling on that and its hard to know where it is. Some of it also could be that there just aren't lanes on his option plays and WRs just aren't open, but he def seems to take a while to just pull the trigger or run sometimes. I think a lot about that like PA boot or whatever it was where he got demolished by 4 or when he runs the option he just seems to almost stop at the point of decision.  Taylor did seem similar to me in that he just took a little while to make a decision some times but he had the benefit of having upper end of elite level acceleration and speed. Haarberg has some top end but his acceleration is not great.

If you don't count Sanders there are 2 transfer QBs who are playing well this year...I'm for the portal but to land an elite QB would take a lot imo.

I guess it depends what level you think we need. Obviously someone like Nix, Penix, Williams, Gabriel  would be something special but we could get someone playing as well as Dart, Rattler, Daniels, Ward, Hartman, de Laura and be a really good football team.

I guess i don't see that.  I see people who know that there have been quite a few programs that have upgraded the position in the portal.  That doesn't mean we will.  Heck, our starter at the beginning of the season came from the portal.  There are good QBs out there.  You just have to get the right one.

Adding to this, I think getting the good portal QBs in a lot cases is from years of contact before they are in the portal. I am willing to bet they are already contacting QBs this year whereas last year they had very limited time combined with Rhule being in the NFL for a few years.

Ok so you would rather have a player that fumbled on 1/3 of his plays which allowed the defense to score 7 pts. So he was on pace if he had taken only 50 snaps like Haarberg did to allow the other team to score over 100 pts.

me thinks allowing Sims to allow the other teams defense to score over 100 pts per game is to much smack that like button. Thank you for playing passthedamnballguy no prize for you

Dang that really got to you, huh? He was in for 4 snaps.

Just so you know, "too" is an indicator of excessive quantities while "to" is more of a directional preposition or adverb. Take a deep breath before quoting someone multiple times. No need to blow a gasket over which bad QB is worse.
