Like I said, he's not at the top of my list by any means.  Though I don't think it's quite as simple as you make it out to be.

But the near-hatred toward him around here goes back even to our last coaching search so a lot of it isn't his record at Arky.  Many people seem to be against something in his personality but I don't know where that's coming from.

I already posted this, but this type of stuff really doesnt bother you:

I cant imagine ever having respect for a coach that would interact with players like that. It's so ridiculously unprofessional.

That's strange, because they got 2 'ships since then with Urban, not to mention Tebow's Heisman.

If I was a UF fan I dont think I would hold the highest regard for Urban. Seemed he bolted out of there with a very thin excuse right before they were gonna get into some trouble with the NCAA.

  3. Man, I didnt realize there was so many. I live in Texas, and I started streaming the Sharp and Benning podcast a few years ago.  I may be biased, but it is so much better than the terrible sports talk radio down here. They both really seem to know their stuff and don't just spew a bunch of hot takes.

  4. Sumlin hasnt really done anything all that special at A&M.  He has had great recruiting classes but the team always gets overhyped then goes nowhere.

I think Fuente and Campbell need to be at the top of the list although either one i think would be hard for us to pry away. If I can put my bias aside I would probably choose either one of them over Frost at the moment.

Agree.  I think Lee has a more accurate arm, But POB look way better in the pocket.

Im not so sure that Lee does. Its a small sample size but the 4th down throw to Morgan was an absolute dime. Also that slot post route or whatever it was to JD was perfect touch. Maybe in 7 on 7 Lee does but he seems just a touch off when the bullets are flying.

  6. Yeah agreed.  I'm sure he thought had more time to get the defense right with how much hype the offense was getting going into the season. At the end of the day he clearly wants the defense to be great, believes that it can be, and is doing everything he thinks necessary to do so. As long as he is doing that and not trashing the kids then i think its not cool for us to be trashing him for not being great in interviews.

I haven't bitched about them skipping a press conference.

    Never said you did.

It was a stupid, chickensh#t statement that absolved himself of all responsibility and threw the players under the bus for obvious shortcomings of this coaching staff.

Did you even listen to the interview or just read the quote?  He praised the players several times throughout the interview.  It was the first thing he did.

Well sure, if we were winning this nonsensical garbage he says would be considered whacky and quaint. But we are so far away from winning that it's not even funny. On the defensive side we can't tackle, cover, generate pressure, stop the run or the pass. The resume is much the same on the offensive side of the ball. It's not even about winning at this point, it's about not being embarrassed by some of the worst teams in cfb. I think somewhere along the way the coaches got block destruction and talent development mixed up and what we're getting is talent destruction.

No one is gonna dispute that the defense looks bad right now, but this press conference witch hunting just makes us look bad, and lends itself to a general toxic culture.

"Oh i cant believe Diaco said we could be a good defense" "Oh i cant believe Diaco said we arent very good on defense right now."

Why do we bitch about the coaches skipping a press conference after a game if we just want to s#!t on whatever they have to say?

  9. People here would be eating s#!t like this up if we were winning. I get that people are upset about how the team is playing but the responses to this are just dumb and sound like people who are desperate and grasping for straws.

I wonder how many games you win in a post-game interview.

As the data shows, top of the line P5 coordinators can become head coaches at elite P5 programs.

The names that I would target at such a position is Joe Moorhead at PSU.   38-13 as a head coach and won the B1G title last season and undefeated this season.

I think a narative started at some point during Pelini that we need someone with HC experience. Now i think most fans wont even consider a coordinator. If we looked back at Bo's tenure now his coaching doesnt look so bad. Some people just cant handle his personality and thats understandable.

I for sure would like them to take a look at Moorhead and Canada.

  11. I know everyone has this thing against hiring coaches without experience(unless its Frost), but I would like to see them take a look at Matt Canada. Hope that name doesnt give anyone a ptsd flashback.  I think his offense would be a pretty smooth transition from what we currently run. He would even be a good choice in the remote possibility they keep Riley with new coordinators.  I watched a lot of the Pittsburgh tape from last year to scout Nathan Peterman, and before I remembered who the OC was I fell in love with that offense. I'm not saying he is a slam dunk choice, but if he has interest in being a HC then I think you have to give him an interview and see if you think he has what it takes to lead.

In that same category I think Joe Moorhead needs a shot. If we want someone that can innovate on offense and strike fear into defenses then I think those two have to be pretty high on the list.

Edit:  Forgot to respond to the topic.

I think if he doesn't use a search firm I will be very disappointed. Search firms can keep us from looking like total fools like we did during the callahan search.

They stipulated on Sharp and Benning after the Moos hire that there is no way you sit down for a meeting with Green and Bounds without having a plan in place for the university going forward. Obviously this was before the OSU game so maybe some part of the evaluation of Riley that would have been part of his plan could be over now. Even if he has a short list of coaches I would Hope Green and Bounds would push him to use a search firm just to cover all possibilities.  They clearly like the results they just got using one so I hope they learned from that.

  12. I'm kind of curious what people think are the limitations specific to Nebraska that prevent us from using a pro-style or multiple offense. We have no problem with WRs. Considering the TEs that came out of the state this year and the potential of the ones we have already that is obviously not an issue. Can o-lineman out of Nebraska only run block? Or is it all down to not being able to get a pocket passing qb?
