  1. Suprisingly the comments were very much unsolicited. Basically, Host: "Hi Tubs, how ya doing?" Tubby: "Hi there Bill, well I think the Big XII is f#c#ed" And he offered some nice comments in there for Nebraska's motivation to leave as well. Tubby interview Full show - has a little more after the interview.
  2. if the Huskers win it this year (don't want to jinx anything) they should just put it in the same place they had it from '79-2002. Which was probably in the back of some storage closet somewhere in the stadium. Until the last few years, who knew this matchup even had a trophy associated with it??
  3. Looking for 4 tickets to the NU vs CU football game. The seats don't have to be together. Paypal would be preferable as I am located in Virginia. Please PM me or email at avsbob@yahoo.com Thanks in advance!
  4. It's because we haven't played each other yet. yeah i have a feeling that once were in the big 10 and playing those teams were going to have other people that are fans of those teams coming on here and not being so nice. but the big 10 fans on here now are great from what I have read. +1 Lets all soak up as much of this as we can now before we start seeing some of our new friends the same way we look at our old Big 8 foes (a conference brotherhood but not all love and hugs). and for one year at least our "fan base" will be a whole lot bigger with Temporary-Husker-Fans in Big 10 territory! At the same time this year will be the first time I will be rooting for Big 10 teams in all their OOC and bowl matchups! Go Big Red/Go Big Ten!!
  5. They are so unbelievably delusional that it is funny. What a great argument....that is so ISU of them. Just state something like it is fact and not back it up with any sort of informed opinion or fact. LOL. It amazes me how little they actually know about the game of football. don't you know? teams in the MWC automatically start out with a -21 point differential? also, they beat NU one year, and all of a sudden it is a win or a toss-up where it favors them. they will be lucky to go 6-6 and probably will go 3-9. have they ever had two "good" seasons in a row? i know that thread represents a small percentage of ISU fans, but talk about arrogance. at least when we are arrogant, the perceived greatness to the team is in much closer proportion. i used to like ISU, but it is becoming harder. i am not bitter that we lost to them last year, i am bitter that they think they out played us. more NU vitriol. they really hate us. never knew that, i guess i really never thought about ISU other than the days we play them, and that one time they had that one good player, what was it again? it was so long ago and they have only had one good player in their entire history? you would think it would be easy to remember just one player over they 100 year history? who was it again... right, Seneca Wallace, their one and only decent player to their one and only decent season that still ended up being 7-7. To be fair, Troy Davis was the one other player. I don't know why but your use of the word Arrogant stuck out to me. Arrogance is usually at least stemmed from something. Our arrogance (and yes we have plenty) comes from National Championships, sell-outs, etc, etc, etc. Not uncommon in sports fans of teams with significant histories. But what the heck to they have to be arrogant about?! Just the title of the post "Cyclone fanatic" elicits pity from me that there are actually people who are fanatical about such a sorry a$$ program. a small part of me actually admires them for even existing. Let them have their win as charity (which is a perfect word for it). let them cherish it as they did the 1992 win. god knows they have little else to rally around as Cyclone fans. But maybe that's just my Husker arrogance and superiority talking.
  6. Rivalries will make themselves known. Clearly Mich and tOSU are already taken but we considered OU a rivalry even though they had Texas. We all know rivalries will invent themselves, we're just being impatient as to what will come out of the woodwork in the years ahead. IMO: Iowa- I don't live in Omaha or Nebraska so I don't have to deal with any Iowa fans. I think because of that I really don't feel anything towards them. So to me this does have a kind of Colorado-esque feeling to it. Only a "rivalry" because we share a border. Wisconsin- as has been said, a rivalry of respect. the good vibes are already there. It'd be like OU without the fighting for an MNC everyear.... but that was a major part of that rivalry. Still, I look forward to this one. PSU- for all the reasons already mentioned (1994/1982), this could be a team I think we learn to hate/respect. Two "classic" teams. It sounds like PSU has been stuck without a true rival since joining the conference, I don't want that to happen with us so maybe this is a natural fit for both programs. Also, something that hasn't really been brought up about the 2002 game were the antics by PSU fans and throwing batteries at our players. Even Paterno felt he had to apologize for it. I've asked before if that was a one-time incident from just a couple jackasses or if that CU-like BS is a norm in Happy Valley? 94 the Huskers won the BCS but Big Ten wasn't a part of the BCS, they didn't want to lose the Rose Bowl connection. So Penn State went undefeated, but couldn't play the Huskers, and didn't get the cool Sears Trophy bcs was started in 98...or the bcs as we know it... 1994 still had the old bowl tie-ins. Big 8 was tied to the Orange Bowl and Penn State to the Rose Bowl. 1995 was the first year where #1 played #2 regardless of conference (minus the Big 10 and Pac 10). otherwise that year also would have been the same crap and we wouldn't have had a shot at Florida. Also iirc Eddie George and Ohio State were a third undefeated team but lost late in the season. I remember a couple of the PSU comments from the 1994 OB vs Miami -After Schlesinger's first TD the announcers show the Husker sideline: "...a smile for Brook Berringer, and hope for Tom Osborne" then Chris Collinsworth: "and we're sorry we can't give you Joe Paterno's reaction". -During the Welcome Home celebration at the Devaney Center, i think it was Rob Zatechka who said that after Schlesinger's 2nd TD he "felt bad for Penn State... for about 5 seconds".
  7. omg...did he just say that??? :rollin :laughpound UTexas = USSR. I like it. A caller on Rivals radio a few days ago suggested renaming the Big XII the SBC for "Soviet Block Conference". Texas is the Soviet Union and the other 9 are the little satellite countires.
  8. It is. The Aggies were only going to leave because Tom Osborne has never liked Texas. The higher ups actually get along quite well. Its just Osborne. At least that's what Chip twittered.
  9. Hey I loved Big 8 Nebraska. But Big 7 Nebraska ('48-'58)... ugh.
  10. With everything negative that Callahan brought to our program I really did like. I really miss that even though it was very short lived tradition! wish they would have continued that. A lot of colleges do something like it so its not unique- but its VERY College Football. It can be beautiful no matter what school is doing it. Anyone remember the NET series Husker Century? The old players knew every word to "The Cornhusker (Come A Runnin' Boys)" even decades later. This is a song we don't even really use anymore! At the very least we should have our boys singing There Is No Place Like Nebraska after a game. {{{steps down off the soap box}}}
  11. I wondered about that watching the Wisconsin Jump-Around video! These old college stadiums are fantastic in all their history but they have their obvious shortcomings as well.
  12. http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports/football/bombers/blogs/bomber_insiders/Hot-in-the-Shade-Training-Camp-Day-11-96479849.html Keyuo's in the minority but not the only one with reservations. but what exactly is "Big 12 Nebraska": Circa 1996-2010. A Nebraska that was good only at the bookends of that era (hopefully, if 2010 turns out well). but mediocre most of that time in between.
  13. Not really surprising actually. Its an internet poll. we always win those. Take note of this Big 10 fans. If you ever set up an online poll involving Nebraska, you may have to rig it against us. Nebraska fans litterally rule online voting. I really don't know what to think of that, if that's impressive or not.
  14. The only change i've noticed was around the spring game. it looked like Adidas added three horizontal bars on the collar just under the chin. I get the Adidas=3 stripes thing but I'm not a big fan of that look if they go with it this season. Its such a minor thing I'm sure I'll probably get over it by the end of the 1st quarter of the 1st game....
  15. Members of the Big 12 conference can play in the Big 12 conference championship. Until July 1st 2011 (months after the title game) we are Members of the Big 12 Conference. So why would we not be allowed a "bid" to play in it? Now... as I said in another thread... certain bad calls keeping us out of the title game is another issue.
  16. All this power play crap just becomes more and more clear. TO said before the Big 10 announcement became official that everything would come out. The Pac 10 should consider itself lucky. they almost deliberatly injected themselves with the biggest cancer in college football. My respect for the Pac 10 is much higher now... Good for them for turning down an "11th hour" switch attempt by UT.
  17. We basically lost our tradition when we let Texas into the conference and gave up the Oklahoma game. To stay in this conference and let Texas dictate the terms is to have no self-respect. Look how pathetic the other schools look. Do you want Nebraska to look like that? Texas gets even more power than they had before AND a larger share of the money. Besides that, they get to "SAVE" the Big 12. This has been nothing but a power play to force Nebraska's hand and solidify their position as ruler of the conference. When the facts start dribbling out, you'll see that Texas played the Pac 10 like a fiddle. It was a power grab that was masterfully played. Im a die hard Sooner fan. The biggest mistake that Larry Scott and the Pac 10 made was that he didn't offer Tech,Okie State or Kansas first to assure that the Big 12 died. I need to go puke now. Gotta disagree. Larry's biggest mistake was not giving Texas the OK for BevoTV. For those regretting leaving the Big 12. wtf? did they just suddenly become stable? You think Mizzou isn't going to leave the first (legitimate) chance they get? KU/KSU/ISU would all leave if they had the means. We had the means and we took advantage of it. Even A&M thought long and hard about getting out. All the in-fighting that broiled to the surface and suddenly now their all buddies?! Its still a highly dysfunctional marriage of convenience. Why would the Huskers want to remain in that situation? Let the other serfs stay behind in the Texas fiefdom.
  18. One thing I'm surprised no one has even mentioned yet, outside of it being in post signatures... There's a statement that every Husker fan knows (or should know). Its kind of like our creed: Not the Victory but the Action Not the Goal but the Game In the Deed the Glory. there was a nice article on the history/origins of it just last year. http://www.huskerextra.com/articles/2009/05/26/football/doc4a160dc642a9f706654654.txt A couple other random things, Maybe in the "lore" category would be Brook Berringer. I don't know how much those outside of Nebraska football remember of him. It would be a downer to go over the story in this thread but if you're curious you can google or YouTube his name. His #18 is still considered sacred by some. A positve and a potential negative: As fans, while we certainly aren't saints at home games it seems like every year there's at least one article written by a scribe or a blogger for a visiting opponent that goes on and on about what gracious hosts we are. We hear it every year. Clapping and offering words of encouragment as the other team leaves the field is a tradition. Win or lose. Regardless of the opponent and how much we may hate them. How can this be a negative? We tend to have a bit of an ego when it comes to the reputation of our fans. and we've clearly rubbed Missouri/CU/KSU fans the wrong way on this as they all seem to be in agreement that they're sick of it. Its possible that some Big Ten fans may also become sick of it someday. Though something tells me it will just help us fit in with our new League of Friends.
  19. I was just telling a friend i was very worried about the same thing! Especially if the Big 12 really is done and these refs blame Nebraska for their jobs. I'm not paranoid enough to buy into a conspiracy (though the :01 makes it really difficult not to). just saying that a lot of 50/50 and even 40/60 type calls that will consistantly go against us. We'll just have to leave no doubt. No room to let those kinds of calls to be the difference. Hasn't that ALWAYS been the case? Refs have always hated on Nebraska...(no bias I assure you ) lol It seems that way over the last few years but I think I'm becoming a strong believer in the whole "you make your own luck" mantra. When your good and your hitting your stride, things will go your way: bounces, penalties, etc. We haven't had much of a stride the last decade. Even last year-- Penalties weren't the problem vs ISU. Or the last minute vs VTech. Now if you have refs that, deep down, are bitter towards Nebraska, luck and stride will have less to do with it.
  20. Can we stop with some of the media-hates-Nebraska stuff? I thought we were over that when we became a media darling after the Big XII championship. The media "fuels" whatever gets them more viewers/listeners/hits/etc-- and there have been a lot of targets to aim at in this whole story. This is just one radio jackass, not surprisingly with ties to OSU (not tOSU!) trying to get a gotchya quote out of Suh- and the Big Man didn't fall for it. Could we have better spokesmen for our beloved Huskers right now than TO and Suh?

  22. The Huskers do have a hockey team but its not sponsored by the athletic department: http://www.huskerhockey.com/ Interesting looking at the teams on their schedule. though I'm going to guess that "University of Wisconsin" is not the Wiscy varsity team... I would LOVE for the Huskers to have an official team! getting to watch Husker Hockey on the B10 network... dare to dream!
  23. I wonder how chip got this news? {{day dreaming}} Hey Chip, How ya doin' buddy, thanks for posting the memos we wrote to you about threatening to jump to the Pac 10. Unfortunatly it didn't work, in fact it backfired: Nebraska's gone. CU snuck out the back door, and now the Ags are flirting with the SEC (but we still have Missouri!). The Pac 10 won't let Baylor tag along and won't allow BevoTV so we're looking into maybe keeping the ol' gang together. You've been doin' a fine job with our rumors so far, can you float this one out there now? Just say its from "three different sources at Big 12 South". Thanks again, Texas Why worse for KU? Nothing would change for them. Just that Texas would have two less teams to annoy them in meetings. Oh, and KU would have to play OU/UT every year instead of every couple years. I guess that might suck for KU. Sorry, Coach Gill.
  24. Yeah, good thing we've never had any fans of a Big Ten team throw anything at Huskers! You know like batteries from Happy Valley or anything like that.... Just to jog anyone's memories: http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/s_154614.html I would hope the treatment our fans received from a few Nit's on our last visit is not business as usual. At least JoePa called them and apologized. I'm not trying to talk smack to our new Blue/White clad friends or throw anyone under the bus here. Big Ten fans have been AWESOME to us so far but I'm just trying to put things in perspective. A bed of roses can still going to have a few thorns in it.
  25. and they wear black & yellow (sorta goldish) and they a border state... Folks, I think we may have just replaced Colorado. but likely without the part where they throw projectiles at anything dressed in Red. Kind of disapointed if that's true about Wisky fans though (Badgers, defend yourselves here!) I'm still hoping that develops a friendliness to it like we had with OU.
