  1. Folks,

This is your like every 4 day reminder to be civil to one another. Attack the message, not the messenger. If you want someone to stop doing something, the best way to do so is to ignore it. So instead of reacting to off topic posts, don't attend to them.

Additionally, please try to keep the conversation focused on Frost as much as possible. We've given quite a bit of leeway, but it's drifting hard again.

The Excuse Train rolled in full-steam ahead when MR was losing in 2015, and it continued into 2017.  Eventually Eichorst and Riley have shown that they just aren't very good at their jobs.  If Moos isn't good at his job, people will call him out, as well.

I mean yes and no. It depends on how much some of the things being said are accurate. Have you ever had a micromanaging boss who told you to do things a specific way instead of the way you know works? It sucks and the vast majority of people won't do as good a job.

Now if the tackling stuff wasn't true, and the bobby d hire stuff isn't true...there's a whole different story. That is to say, we do not know the constraints of the job HCMR had. Even I might be able to beat Usain Bolt in a race if he's in a sack race and I have a bicycle...powered by jets...on a good day.

If it is Frost he will be given far more patience. Not only because he is a Nebraskan and played for Nebraska, but because people will see he needs to clean up the mess Riley made. As far as Osborne hiding in the shadows, that is probably just simply his era. You walk away, means you walk away. He probably see's it that whoever the coach is they don't want him lingering around or hovering around their decisions or their program. This is probably Osborne just giving full respect to whoever the coach is.

I think regardless of how grounded in reality it might be, this is true. Fans are going to be a lot more patient with a coach taking over a 4 win program than one taking over a 9-win program. We're not big on the full context in these parts, but we understand wins and losses.

I'll give the man credit, he's a man of his word, not afraid to listen to the fanbase and address those concerns openly. He's a leader, that's completely obvious at this point. I agree with the decision as long as it doesn't cause us to lose SF or some other big name coach. My guess is he's not firing him for a few reasons:

    1. He's a man of his word, he means what he says and is going to stick by that, that takes guts.

    2. He's in negotiations with SF's agent and they are trying to come to an agreement so he doesn't have a replacement at this point to make him comfortable firing Riley.

    3. He's come to an agreement with SF so he's comfortable knowing Riley is gone after Black Friday and he can announce SF after that.

    4. Worse case scenario: He's scrambling behind the scenes to get a coach in place to be able to fire Riley.

Of course it could be a completely different coach at this point too...........

Personally, I think it's a hiring benefit to be able to say look I stick to my word. That means if Moos makes a commitment to give our next coach x amount of time, they know they'll have it.  If you go back on your word in a public place, it doesn't instill hope in our next coach. It seems like the AD department has more damage control to do than anything. This is a good first step.

No one is saying you don't make sense. What they're saying is you need to work on how you communicate. As a mod, I'm inclined to agree that you have at times toed a line. You state many opinions as fact and you word it very strongly. That type of speaking gets strong responses. I'm encourage you to be mindful of it.

No, it doesn't. It points to nobody in particular. You're working towards legendary status on this board.

Yeah, I'm trying to figure out why that tweet had any meaning what so ever. The only thing I can take away from it is that the future coach is a CFB coach who is on a bowl eligible team (maybe?).

So I guess Mike Riley not to Florida confirmed?

I dont want to say I have a source because I know everyone thinks it is a lie. So I will just say I have a really good feeling we offered Frost $5 million per year and are probably negotiating terms. Those dang gators probably offered him a little more than us before we made our first offer.

Is that to hypothetically say that we offered less initially and this is a second offer to beat the gators offer?

    From footballscoop

Florida: Houston sports radio host Marc Ryan tweeted this afternoon “From a very reliable source. UF has reached out to representatives of Bob Stoops, Chip Kelly and Charlie Strong to gauge interest in becoming the Gators next head coach. These are believed to be UF’s top choices.” Throughout the week, FootballScoop has heard from multiple sources in connection with this search. The information we have heard does not support Ryan’s tweet. We are told Spurrier has been helping Stricklin when asked. If Stricklin wanted Stoops’ ear, they would just call and talk or visit, no going through reps. Sources tell us Scott Frost is a very real candidate for this job. Will update as more is clear.

My guess is that SF is doing what most people do on the job market. You look for as many options as possible, you set yourself up that in case one job falls through you land on your foot. Same thing I did last year where I didn't turn down one job offer until I had another in hand. You negotiate, you get as close as possible, you have it ready to sign on the doted line. If the other place gets cold feet or the written offer doesn't look right, you land on your feet.

    Jinx!

At least delete the stalker stuff. This is getting gross.

See the problem is that we don't want to do the work. We want everyone to have some semblance of control. I got a PM yesterday saying let the kids have their fun. The problem is if we let little things slide it ends up turning into this nonsense. Folks need to learn when enough is enough so the mods don't have to get heavy handed. Believe me, none of us want to go around hiding multiple pages of posts.

Everyone needs to learn when it's gone to far. A big part of this is not responding to off topic posts. @Warrior10's post right above this is a great example (sorry to throw you under the bus). While the intention is great and I'm 100% behind it, the function is that the conversation continues (there's now an opening for another off topic response about if making jokes is ok or when it's ok etc). So even though the end thought is lets get back on topic we continue off topic. It is fine to take things to PMs. In fact it's encouraged.

Being the fun police sucks, but there's only so much bs that people are going to wade through to read about SF. After that, we start getting tons of SF threads which the people that make the topic go off topic complain about which takes yet another thread off topic.

Have your fun, make a comment or two but let it go.

  11. If Riley stays and Cav and DL are still here, I would be officially convinced that we're no longer trying to win.

Play calling and OL play have done horrible things to our team this year. If it's clear to me, that's a problem. I also have serious questions about Bobby, but we also could use a true NT.

    Question about recruiting.

First off, I don't care if the recruiting class suffers as long as we bring in the right guy to rebuild the program. The recruiting classes will rebuild wt the right guy.

With that said, If we announce  Scott Frost as our new coach on Jan 2 - what do you think will happen with this recruiting class?   Will we get a fresh look by players who had never considered NU?  Will decommits look at us again? Or Will the class be a 'loss' as it is too late to build it back up?

I would say take a look at the changes in Minnesota after Fleck was hired. Very similar careers. Have to take into account their past recruiting, but should be a similar change I imagine.

  13. Grew up in Lincoln during the 90's but honestly didn't care much about football until later in life.  I enjoy football and sports in general and as I got older being from Nebraska and living in another state helped me find a culture in Nebraska football I identified with. I like being a part of a community that is identified as being "good" fans. I like that we're knowledgeable, I like that we treat visiting fans well. It fits well with my view of sports bringing people and communities together.

I think that last bit has made it harder to be a husker fan lately given that everything's so divisive now a days. I also see a lot more vitriol which rubs me the wrong way.

Boosted by a couple really big plays.

Wisconsin - 381 yards on 61 plays, 6.2 ypp; 1 80 yard TD - without that it was 5.0 ypp which would be #110 in the country for the season

Ohio State - 393 yards on 63 plays, 6.2 ypp; 1 77 yard TD - without that it was 5.1 ypp

Granted, those are two of the better defenses we'll see this year.  So that's good.  But 6.2 ypp would only be tied for 41st in the country for the year - we are actually at 5.6 which is 70th.

    So there are two questions:

Can we continue to get the big plays to help boost our average and output?

We are currently #83 in the country in total plays run - 68.9 per game - so can we stay on the field more to be able to run more plays and take advantage of a better ypp?

You can't remove our big plays without removing other teams as well. I get where you're coming from, but if you're taking away our two largest plays or whatever, due it for everyone.

  15. Alright everyone. You're all going in time out.

Stop with the personal attacks. If you don't like what someone is saying either ignore them, stop reading the thread, don't reply, or make the argument based about the content. Otherwise, I'm going to start getting warning happy.

Will be interesting to see if this happens. For whatever reason lately I've been having a hunch that Riley gets another year. If he's canned I think Bookie ends up at Clemson assuming the new coach can't keep the class together.

I have to imagine there's a ton going on behind the scenes. I think there's an interaction here between Scott Frost and HCMR. The better UCF is this year, the more our hand gets forced. That said, Frost has made it clear in the past he's going to be careful about what jobs he takes. He liked UCF because he could run what he wanted to run based on local/regional recruits. I have to imagine there are background conversations going on to figure out if Frost would consider Nebraska. If he is willing to consider Nebraska and he's going to transition to a p5 this year I gotta imagine HCMR is gone. If Frost isn't willing to take the Nebraska job or he wants to stay at UCF (these are different things in my mind), I think HCMR stays unless there's another guy we absolutely want on the market.

Otherwise, I think you're right that Riley gets another year. I think he's retained and we hope that this recruiting class goes up to its potential. Next year is going to be a rough year for us, so it would be easy to justify getting rid of HCMR with two bad seasons in a row plus the new AD can say they had a full year to evaluate HCMR. Bring in a new coach they get the relatively easy 2019 schedule. At that point we might be willing to navigate down our list of candidates just to make the transition. This year though, I have to imagine we're heavily focused on only Candidate 1A and not willing to go down the list. Personally, I think it's a strategy that makes sense. You don't want to throw a new coach to the wolves next year.

Not the victory but the action; Not the goal but the game; In the deed the glory.

That saying has nothing to do with fairweather fans, or bandwagon fans, or only caring when the team is winning.

I know people give you a hard time for being long winded, but you just basically explained one of the most misconstrued sayings that Husker fans use. It has to do with exactly what you said. It's not about winning and losing, it's about giving your all. And I don't think that's something that's preached by our current staff, because outside of JP, they don't understand it.

This kind of stood out to me yesterday, but in small ways. On the pick six, ball hits Ziggy in the face, flies away. I don't have a huge problem, it sucks and it happens. However, instead of finishing the play, as the Wisconsin player was running off to score, he was taking to the ref. I don't know if he could have stopped the score, but I miss having players that almost all go until the play is over or even a little past when it's over.

That motor that jp has and that he seems to be teaching to a few linemen. That's what I want to see again. Our dline got beat at the end of the game. I don't mind that. Wisconsin is good this year. But the don't stop won't stop attitude needs to come back.

  18. 2 minutes ago, MattyIce said:

N at 11 Commits. HCMR says 18. If things go well the rest of the year. We finish this class with...

Parsons, Tutt, Addison, Hightower, Pledger, Redmond, Goss, and for you recruiting nuts a surprise. Matt Corrall.

This would put us 5th currently at 247.

This would put us 9th in 2017 rankings.

GBR beat Sconsin and it's all a possibility.

Plus over signing which it is clear we need to start doing IMO.Could hit 21, might be a good class to do this in. If HCMR is going to save his job he needs to have a decent end of the season and recruit very well I imagine.
