So is literally EVERY post going to be about fire frost?  This is getting old quick. If you want to be doom and gloom go to one of those posts.  Some of us have hope.  MOVE ALONG

Please do not allow this board to become like the 247 board. That place sucks.

I was agreeing with you, this. This is a stretch.

Is it though? For twenty years it’s been Nick or Urban and I’m leaving Dabo out because I do not think he’s on their level. He’d have to coach somewhere else and win. Those two no matter what are guaranteed playoffs, and they would achieve that at a lot of places. Urban at Utah, and Saban at MSU would be in the playoffs by year two. We can’t say that about anybody else.

Being head coach is another ballgame for sure.  Few are cut out for it. It entails a lot that hasn’t been experienced before.

It definitely is, but more coaches need to stop going after the money and keep their happy asses where they are and develop themselves. A young guy like Chinander would benefit by remaining a DC for another 5-8 years before he thinks about becoming a HC (I am using him as an example, not that I think he is actually looking to be a HC). Master your position before you make leaps and it will make you more money in the long run. Brent Venables did it the right way.

How in the hell do you coach in college and not spend a ton of time on fundamentals?

Let me tell you... lol. The truth is, a lot of coaches suck. It starts from the top. So many want to only teach scheme because they have figured out ways to get by without being fundamentally sound. Then they can just focus on recruiting and never having to care too much about who they do or do not hire as assistants. This trickles down immensely, and when you tie this in with the buddy system of college football, you get a lot of poorly coached teams. There is only one elite coach in college football and has been for two decades and that's Saban. The rest of them are position coaches and at most coordinators who are not equipped to be head coaches.

I agree that the 2nd half against Michigan was great and I don't believe anyone expects perfection, but we had dug ourselves into a hole with not so great play calling in the first half.  It's kind of a microcosm of this year's team where we had some really good moments but could not quite put together a full 60 minutes to win the game.  I am hoping the experience of Whipple will help us more consistently have a full 60 minutes of good play calling.

Just to add, I think the main issue for this is that practice did not reveal what the coaches needed to see or know going into the game. Once they saw what the other team was doing, they did a pretty damn good job adjusting, but they need to develop and practice in a way where the truth reveals itself well before Dublin. We can't waste a half figuring who the starting Wr's, Rb's, or OT's are.

He'll get destroyed in the Big 10. His offense does nothing for Nebraska and does not belong here. Good luck getting it up to speed in a year too.

I would love the hire of Mark Whipple though.

  7. Football is a pretty easy sport. If you develop your players correctly, your play calls are a lot easier.

I think he struggled at USC mostly because they cannot develop there and haven't been able to for over a decade. They have been getting by on raw talent alone.

I'd rather have Chad Morris if we want Texas connections.....

I am also unsure how well the air raid will work against teams that pin their ears back and have been getting to NU QB's rushing 3-4 and seldom having to bring extra guys.  OSU leads the B1G and is number 4 in yards per game passing.  Michigan beat them senseless.  Oregon beat them with OSU throwing for almost 500 yards with Stroud airing it out 54 times....Oregon ran it down their throat as well rushing for almost 270.  Want to win the B1G?  Run.

Purdue and Maryland both threw for more yards per game than USC.  Again, no thanks.

Honestly, if it is Graham I don't know what the plan is other than he will put really good assistants with him and really good athletes. Graham will get good QBs to sign here. Our strength right now is at the skill positions so Scott might feel like this would be an easier transition, and it would blend well with Mickey Joseph? Idk.

  9. I think he wants Graham Harrell for Texas recruiting, attracting elite QBs, and a style that overwhelms the BIG west. Nebraska obliterated Wisconsin's D, and I think Scott wants a better version of that with his Wr and TE talent. Harrell also has a well defined identity. If it is Graham, I don't love it, but I can sort of see why he'd be considered.

  10. I think Logan will be fine. Did anyone else notice Nebraska taking up another 5-7 seconds in the play clock last weekend? They even found a nice rhythm doing so. I'm glad they're using the Big ten strategy for once. It benefitted them well against Wisconsin.

All three facets should be playing inspired football. The defense should dominate, and that alone should give us a good chance. The key as we all know is special teams. We need to kick it in the end zone every time. Make them earn it.

Also, Frost needs to take the points. 3 will feel like 7, as it usually does in this conference. I know we have been far from automatic, but we have to kick.

Start Marvin Scott. He is steady and is a natural between the tackles. We need that desperately. Sprinkle in more option and get Betts involved.

I'm calling my shot: Cam Taylor Britt or Marquel Dismuke is going to get a very important interception that will swing this game if Nebraska is ready to seize a victory. It will be had.
