  1. Which means one of two things: 1.) Gag order so people wouldn't even tell their friends 2.) Nothing actually happened back when my friend worked for Ohio State. Anything after 2006 I would have received from forums who people claimed they were insiders or who were actually insiders. I am still under the impression most of the other sports are clean (as can be expected). If not, I am going to be pissed because I should have asked Craft last weekend where to get a good deal on a car. It will be interesting to see who really did know stuff on the inside. You take a look at Kansas and their recent problems and its usually only a small group of people who are aware of it. Dirty people don't want others to know whats going on. What it says about his friend is that he was a pretty clean guy. Also it looks like most of the stuff is by boosters so usually that's only top brass involved in having conversations about extra benefits. I would guess in this instance 1/2 of it was more of a "player" thing as you usually don't see the AD associated with drug dealers, thugs, etc. I would guess that we find out that the coaches know a lot more than they say they do. I could see top brass knowing about the cars. They always know about the cars. It isn't hard to check the parking lot for cars. The coaches know what type of background these kids come from.

  3. It is entertaining until it is the school you like. As a Buckeye fan, it is like a horror movie. It doesn't matter the school...someone is doing something against NCAA rules. You just don't know how deep the rabbit hole goes.
  4. A deal will work out. This happened all over the Big Ten footprint when the Big Ten Network first started.
  5. Good bye Pryor, hello Braxton Miller. I knew something good would come out of this.
  6. The reason is, as Dez Bryant and countless others involved in NCAA dealings have shown, once you decide whatever you did was worth lying about to cover up to the NCAA you've decided it's worth getting absolutely hammered by the infractions committee for. Tressel lied about the tat5 - and perhaps ironically they are probably more in the clear here then the 9 other players on the team that either lied or weren't investigated. Well minus Pryor for other things, and assuming the other 4 don't have similar car deals worked out. No doubt and it is a gamble for student and/or coach. Lie and hope no one has evidence you did something wrong or come clean and accept the punishment. The school is screwed in both cases. I don't see Pryor making his way onto the field again for OSU.
  7. I agree the school is in a tough spot if the players lie to them, but we know that's not the case here - at least not with the tattoos. And I have no idea where you're coming from with this second paragraph. I have made no statement about your point of view here, nor is it relevant. The students originally in trouble had outside evidence SENT to the school. A student accused anything has no reason to tell the truth unless they know they are caught. 2nd Paragraph = Trying to sate that I am not a OSU homer looking at this irrationally.
  8. I in no way think what happened at OSU is right and I am OK with whatever punishment the NCAA hands down. Saying that, do you really believe the players involved in this are going to be truthful to the university? This isn't a criminal investigation and OSU can't act like the FBI. If the students say nothing is going on and the school has no evidence, they can't do anything. The 5 got in trouble because there was evidence of the matter and Tressel withheld information which put him in the situation he is in. I do not think SI is full of crap but I take everything with a grain of salt (on both sides). To be honest I like OSU sports and know some athletes (past and present) but I have a hard time taking ownership in any of this. So if you think I have scarlet and gray glasses you are wrong. OSU has very little of my money from sporting events and I don't give to the school. Four years of my tuition went to a school that houses the top football program in the country (all divisions). It shouldn't be hard to figure out the school if you really know your college football. Other than a rooting interest in the Buckeyes, I don't have much tied to the program or school.
  9. SI had no access to the players, the people who actually did this stuff. tOSU does. How can you possibly make that claim in bold? So you are saying the school should go door to door at every tattoo parlor in the state of Ohio? The school has access to the current players and anyone who comes to them with information. They also need EVIDENCE if they want to turn anything over to the NCAA. What bold statement am I making? I will say it again, OSU can't investigate and make accusations like SI did in their article and turn those findings over to the NCAA.
  10. I think it's far worse then a lot of people realize. I wouldn't be breathing any sigh of relief if I was an OSU fan. No it didn't have the point shaving rumors or go into greater detail about the cars... (I bet that's still coming, esp if Pryor was flaunting it this weekend) It's not full of new earth shattering revelations. Instead it shows that it was more systemic then just 5 rogue players with bad judgement and that it went on for years unknown to the coaches and compliance staff (either by willful ignorance or incompetence, neither of which will impress the NCAA). It basically throws out the NCAA's statute of limitations on the violations since the same violations were happening well beyond the statute of limitations. Not to mention it completely discredits OSU's own compliance staff's investigation into players trading memorabilia since it names (nine?) other current players and many ex-players having done the same thing for either tattoos, weed, or cars. The article, depending on what the NCAA allegations already included and what they knew before, probably escalated the whole thing into a LOIC that could reach as far back as they wanted for punishment. There very well might be another vacated championship in the 2000s because there is almost no doubt that players were playing that had forfeited their own eligibility. There are a lot of accusations about what happened and what the author thought Tressel SHOULD HAVE KNOWN about. The school could not investigate at the level SI was able to and nor should they be able to. Would you like for Nebraska to take the word of known criminals and disgruntled ex-players and then turn over their findings to the NCAA? Also, the stuff about Youngstown State is not as cut and dry as the article likes to lead on about. At least that is what I hear from people in Youngstown.
  11. The way SI and others pumped that article up, I (and many Buckeye fans) was expecting more. OSU is in damage control mode. I don't believe the article had anything to do with Tressel stepping down. I think a group of people (i.e. Les Wexner) that writes the checks to OSU's athletic department had enough. I am not saying that anything in the article was right for the players or Tressel to do but in a way I am sort of relieved. Pryor is still an idiot so I am sure something more will come out about him.
  12. It looks like you guys might not have to worry about playing OSU with Pryor at QB as well. Let the Braxton Miller era start at OSU early. http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/sports/stories/2011/05/30/zzz.html
  13. They weren't hight pro prospects. What options did they really have?
  14. I am sure this story is far from over and I believe OSU will wait until the season is over before they start the search for a new head coach. Being in Ohio, I don't believe Bo will be the next coach at OSU. I am sure his name will be brought up because of his Ohio ties but I just don't see it happening. It will be interesting to see how Ohio State shakes up the coaching staff in the end. Will they think they current coaching staff is too close to Tressel? If OSU can keep a lock on the top talent in Ohio and still stay active nationally, their talent level won't dip too much (depending if they lose scholarships). It will be interesting if anything else comes out in the wake of all this. okaive, Why do you care what OSU fans say about the outcome of the game? It isn't like this happened the night before the game. OSU and Nebraska will have plenty of time to prepare for the game. The biggest question at that point will be.....Does OSU play Miller or Pryor at QB?
  15. cool story bro. I don't think I brought up or was talking about any of that crap about MC? Different situation but thanks for trying to tie it in.
  16. Not hardly, Ohio State's next coach will be Urban Meyer. No thanks. At least not at this point in time.
  17. I am an Ohio State fan and I don't what to think about the current situation but to say that article was "very good" is far from the truth. The article comes across vindictive and more of a amateur blog like feel. The people that like Tressel before this will continue to do the same and those who hated him before this will also continue. At the end of the day, what he did was wrong and OSU was in the process of self reporting the violation. Yahoo just made the story come out a bit faster. If they suspend him for the 2 games or the season, it is what OSU has to live by. To me it comes across as an article written by a guy tired of the NCAA double-standard. tOSU should have had to sit the Tat Five for the bowl game. When they didn't, it reeked of a deal being cut. Stewie was firing a shot across the NCAA's bow with that article, saying that if they don't do something this time, there'll be hell to pay in the aftermath. I understand where you're coming from with the tone - it was a column, not a news article, though. He expressed opinion that he couldn't if he was just reporting facts. He also hasn't said anything that is wrong in that column. Sorry, I edited my post because I had two pages open on my computer (the other being a ESPN column) and I commented on the wrong one. Deal being cut or not, it hurt OSU more playing them in the game. If they would have taken the loss because the players didn't play, most people wouldn't have come down on OSU as hard. It will be an interesting year in Columbus and I am sure more will come out about the situation. I think most OSU fans are glad it wasn't OSU or a booster giving recruits money. Saying that, I don't mean to diminish the wrong that Tressel did. Funny how something like this can overshadow a great year the basketball team is having. Football really is king in Ohio despite having some great basketball products come out of this state.

  19. Haha. This is THE INTERNET. No respect required here. You're way cooler online. THE INTERNET.....SERIOUS BUSINESS!!!
  20. Close but Bluffington is in the next county.
  21. Youngstown can be a really rough place. From what I have been reading, he wasn't going to be at OSU this year anyways. Too many acedemic problems (kicked out of HS at Ursuline and left Fork Union Military Academy before the end of the year). It really is a shame. I watched him in the D5 state championship game in 2008 when his team went up against Aaron Craft (OSU BBall recruit and great QB) and Turner made Craft look slow at times. It is amazing how much talent comes out of Ursuline and Mooney. where did you go to for high school? Bluffton. Why do you ask?
