Minnesota was the only one of those games where he really struggled to throw downfield. He was 0-4 over 20 yards in that game. That was the game he seemed to hurt his shoulder. In the other three games he was 4-7 over 20 yards. So not a lot of attempts but pretty successful when we tried.
The most important stat line @ Rutgers: 2 ints; 3 fumbles, 2 lost for a total of 4 turnovers. If he does that against a good team not playing their 2nd and 3rd string QBs the outlook on Martinez going into the offseason is much different.

I guess I don't know that we can say at this point that depth will be an issue. Inexperience behind the starters is an issue but that's almost a given when you return three starters. We don't know if our backup linemen are that good. Neither does basically anyone else in the country.
We also didn't recruit the OL particularly well for several years.
In the 2016 class, only Farniok became a regular starter. Wilson started some. Raridon and Brokop were non-factors.
In the 2017 class, Jaimes was a great get but Bando, Walker and Sichterman are busts.
In the 2018 class, we only got Will Farniok as an OL. So... yeah. But Jurgens was in that class (as a TE, four-star recruit) so that helps.
Three classes. Looks like two total regular starters (recruited as OL). Neither are still here.
Since then, things seem to have picked up.
In the 2019 class, Benhart (four-star recruit) and Piper are already starting. Banks will probably be a backup this year. Not much after that but that's a good base.
In the 2020 class, Corcoran was our highest-rated recruit and looks to be a starter next year. We only took two OL recruits in this class because of how many we had to take in 2019. We also got transfers in Ezra Miller (a four-star recruit to Iowa) and Nouredin Nouili (freshman starter at Colorado State) to help fill in.
In the 2021 class, Prochazka was our second-highest-rated recruit.
OL is the spot where it takes the longest to develop and be ready to contribute. The 2016, 2017 and 2018 classes should be the fourth- and fifth-year guys next year. But that's not an option. We started a lot of younger guys this year partly because they are better and partly because there were few options ahead of them. So Jurgens is likely the "old guy" of the starters next year. Most everyone else that will contribute has only been here for a year or two. So it's tough to know who's going to work out and who isn't.
Not to beat a dead horse, but Mike Riley's recruiting on the O-line was subpar. 2015 produced no starters (big get was Jalin Barrett out of Oklahoma who never sniffed the field). To produce 2 starters out of 3 classes (15, 16, 17) might be worse the subpar.

Its hard to believe Zatecha was just extended a PWO offer now. Perhaps there's more to the offer than we know as speculated in other threads?

If we add Dickerson we'd jump up to 225.2 points on 247 and the No. 19 class, just ahead of Ole Miss at 224.5 (with 24 commits).

Best chances to turn into a consistent threat pass rusher next year, IMO:
Payne - He flashed some things despite being nicked up and switching from a Juco DT. Not exactly Randy Gregory, but not many
guys are.
Nelson - Never going to be dominant as a rusher, but I think he can get some consistent pressure with some refinement. He's not super explosive but very strong and not a scrub athletically
Niko Cooper - Needs to get bigger, but Dawson seems to like him and he hit some people on ST. Don't know much about his quickness, but he's long.
Tannor - Has some tools, time is running out though. Pretty good stunting inside, haven't seen much from him coming off the
edge though.
Gunnerson - Athletically looks the part, no idea if he's healthy though.
Damien Jackson - actually saw the field a bit last year and got some pressures, but he's all effort and strength which can only go so far. No length, limited speed/quickness
Not holding my breath for a 1st team all-conference season or anything, but I think somebody out of the top 4 steps up and we have a slightly credible pass rush.
Nelson and Tannor will get the most snaps - but I think Payne will see increase reps this year. Depending on his spring and fall camp, Cooper may get some reps on 3rd down/situational pass rush.
Gunnerson is a year or two away.

2024-25 LB Starters
ILB- Gbayor- Ho’ohuli
OLB- Malcolm- Kpai

I like the thought... but if my understanding of eligibility is right Henrich will be a senior in 2024.

I wonder if Gunnerson can pass rush
I think the potential is there but he will need a couple years to first get healthy from his hip injury and develop the strength/speed needed at this level.

I get not all of these guys were recruited to specifically be the duck-r but we were told these smaller shifty WRs would make this offense go.
Tyjon Lindsey - transfer
Miles Jones - transfer
Jaron Woodyard - transferMike Williams - transferJD Spielman - transfer
Marcus Fleming - transfer
Wandale Robinson - transfer
*Class of 21' - no WR under 6'2
Time to run the power spread Mr. Frost -- and I think you have figured that out with bigger WR, TE, RB. Let's turn this program around.
#GBR
No the Duck-R position is not dead in Frost's offense. Woodyard and Williams were never recruited to play that position (just look at Williams complaints on twitter he didn't get to play in the slot enough). Alante Brown and Will Nixon will compete for the role this year. The transfer of Robinson was unexpected and likely why no recruit in the class of 21. I think we will see a dip in the positions usage this year and more of an H back with Fidone and Hickmon.

^ Agreed. The defense should continue to improve, but there's a ceiling they won't break through until they find a legit pass rusher. Anybody seen any pass rushing OLBs in the transfer portal?
I think Payne and Niko Cooper will make big jumps this coming year as it relates to a possible internal source of pass rush from the olb position.

Sounds like we are out on TMA. Probably because we took a transfer WR instead.
Not a comment directed at you, but not sure why a transfer WR who is here for 1 year would have any effect on an incoming Fresh... doesn't make sense to me.

With the amount of targeting calls our secondary seems to incur we need all the depth we can get at safety - imo.

I personally would like to see 2 TE sets more I think with Allen, Fidone , Vokolek and Randal give us better match ups . I also like Betts and hopefully Manning with Martin and Brown . We would definitely pass the eye test with this line up should be able to move people.
X Betts 6’2 200
Z Manning 6’4 225
Y Allen 6’8 260
W Vokolek 6’6 260/Fidone 6’5 225
Lt Cochoran 6’6 300
LG Piper 6’4 300
C Jurgens 6’3 290
RG Miller 6’6 325
RT Benhart 6’9 330
Qb Martinez 6’2
Rb Stepp 6’0 235
X - Betts and Manning
Z - Toure and Martin
Y - Allen and Vokolek
R - Brown/Nixon
or
H - Fidone / Hickmon
I also see Nourelli, Bando, and Hixon battling it out for RG.

Perhaps I'm buying to much into the recent transfer additions, but I think the 2021 team will have the most overall talent that Frost has had. I know Toure hasn't played a down yet, but when was the last time we had a WR on our roster who was a legit draft pick after his Junior season? Stanley Morgan was legit, don't get me wrong, but I don't think he had the draft prospects Toure does. I think Betts will see a big jump after getting his feet wet this year and continued learning of the playbook. Martin will be a solid possession receiver. The tight-end spot and depth is the best its been for quite some time as Allen has proven to be an effective weapon and adding Fidone to the mix may take some time but he will be a mis-match at some point next year. RB is still somewhat of a question even with Stepp but the talent is there (just none with the game breaking ability of Mo Wash).
The defense is also bringing back the most talent in 10 years and since 2009. I am not saying the defense will be on the same level or caliber (and still expect that 2009 to be better come seasons end) but this is the closest to that talent level we have had.

Yes those plays are good. BUT bama also had many successful downfield throws and a solid running game to compliment. It doesnt work for us because we do it all the time and none of the other stuff works either.
I completely agree. However, look at how they scored some of their early touchdowns inside the red zone, they were on passes to the flat from motion. They then later used that motion to run plays off of because of the effectiveness. So its kind of a which came first, chicken or the egg.

They are. They didn't want him to have to play in the backfield this year. They talked about that before the season. But the injuries/issues with a bunch of running backs along with trying to get Wan'Dale the ball as much as possible led to the change in plans. It's unfortunate that apparently trying to get him as much opportunity as possible was seen as a bad thing. Maybe he he saw it as not living up to what he was told in the offseason.
I think Frost was in a bit of a bind on how to get Wan'Dale more touches. I think he envisioned getting Wan'Dale the ball out in the flat but the current QBs struggled with consistency on the bubble and swing passes - so he had to resort to getting him more touches on handoffs.
For all the nay sayers about throwing the flat/bubbles/swing passes from motion just look at what Alabama did last night. I know we don't have nearly the speed of Bama but such plays are a staple of a lot of modern offenses.

Seems like a guy that’s gonna need to develop to me
Sure, every incoming freshman needs to 'develop', but if you're talking about physically developing he is one of the bigger/most developed receivers we have brought in at 6'3, 195lbs.

This can be shades of grey. I think if COVID doesn't happen and give his mom a health scare Wandale is still here. I also don't think if he had 1,100 receiving yards last year he'd be transferring regardless of his mom. It's probably some mix of both plus alleged pressure from his dad and trainer, but we can never really know. It's going to suck because he was a clearly talented player on the outside which we desparately need, but best thing to do is just wish him well and hope the younger guys can replace him. I don't think this is a total indictment of Frost or how things are going, but it's also probably not a good thing and he's probably not blameless here.
To throw another scenario out... what happens if the BIG doesn't play a season? Wan'Dale is back home with his mom and realizes how much he misses the program and excited to get back to Lincoln. Flip side, he could also realize how much he enjoys being home and close to momma as well I guess.

Since the transfer portal officially went online in October 2018, 30 Husker scholarship guys have entered the portal. Only four went directly to a scholarship at another Power 5 school: Lightbourn (Oregon State), Vedral (Rutgers), Spielman (TCU) and Fleming (Maryland). Guy Thomas (Colorado via a JUCO) and Miles Jones (walk-on at Tennessee but since left the team) were on other Power 5 teams under other circumstances.
What about Greene to FAU?

I think the opposite has been floated during the pressers - supposedly Frost had been keeping it slower than he'd like for the past couple years to protect the defense, and this was the year he'd felt comfortable enough with the defense to run more tempo. Of course, we only run tempo after positive plays so.. didn't happen a lot. But I think from pressers Frost considers a good defense license to go fast, not a reason to shift to a ball control style.
I'm not saying we didn't run tempo at times - but it seemed far less than his history and what he did at UCF. It also seemed like he did not use tempo as much with Martinez as he did with McCaffrey (I know a different convo).

Both of the bolded are misleading and false. Every fanbase will have fans that claim better athletes are on the bench but I don't think the outcry was more disproportionate under Pelini then it is say now. In fact, I think fans under Frost have been worse about Frost not playing better athletes (see McCaffrey before this season and the WR position). Also, I would not agree recruiting got significantly worse after Pelini left. Instead, there has been an uptick (barely), see 247 Avg Rating:
Pelini
