Didn't make the trip.  Rumor is internal discipline.

I think I just read on a Rivals article he didn't make the trip due to an injury... anyone seen confirmation/info re: his absence yet?

Is Ramsey all that good though?  I guess he's better than Northwestern QB's of the past, but I still think he's pretty average.  Against Iowa, he wasn't asked to do much with only 18 pass attempts.  He did have 12 carries for 26 yards, and that can help keep NU honest against the RB-run game, but Ramsey is a replacement-level QB IMO.

Definitely not saying he is all conference material - but he is under appreciated. As pointed out by runningblind, he played well and hurt us in the Indiana game last year. All I'm saying is don't sleep on Ramsey, he's a good enough QB to win games with his play (as opposed to needing to rely on defense and etc).

  3. Excited to see Farmer and Newsome get some serious playing time in the first half this game. Should be a great game to break in a few new players in the secondary with the lack of a deep threat at Northwestern. Only hesitation is that Ramsey is a legit QB.

Yep...any team with expectations (this year) that starts off 0-2 or 0-3, get ready to see some quitting.

To push the 'quitting' even further - I would put it past Fleck (who is enough of a tool) that if their COVID cases are high enough (orange/red level) and they are out of contention to call off the last game.

  5. Pretty good breakdown on Rivals of where things stand after fall ball. https://nebraska.rivals.com/news/husker-fall-baseball-wrapup

Povich, Hroch, and Shanaman appear to have the inside track for weekend starters. Max Anderson and Brice Matthews impressed and will look to start in the infield. Schwelly looks to be the only guaranteed starter in the infield at SS but he got some run at pitcher was was sitting around 95.

Did not see any mention of Cam Chick. Anyone have any insight on Chick's status?

I know it's fun to think about projecting NU's record, potentially winning the division, and figuring out the necessary tie-breakers, but I am going to take things week-by-week this season and not worry about the future.  While I think NU is improved vs. the past few years, we still haven't seen the product on the field get to where it will get enough wins to compete for the division title.  Frost said it in his press conference today, the thing he is most frustrated about is not getting those in-game reps.  Players can get a ton of reps in practice, but it doesn't mean much until it moves game situations.

Along the same lines is maintaining the mental focus for 4 quarters. Over the last few years we have been unable to maintain discipline and play a full 4 quarters of football without the penalties and/or turnovers against quality opponents. The last game against OSU was a prime example, as we played the first 25 minutes of fairly sound/disciplined football. At about 5 minutes left in the 2nd quarter is when things began to slip.

I'm impressed that we are getting there with covid and all.  You could make a five start argument for Fidone and Teddy P, but they committed to Nebraska, so probably never.  :)  If we finish anywhere between 15-20, I will be pleasantly surprised.

15-20 in the rankings would be a good spot for this class to land. We need to continue to stack top 20 classes on each other. Fidone is likely the only immediate contributor (in year 1 or 2), but I like the class which should begin providing depth and contributions down the road. Bretz will likely see a ratings jump and may be the steal of this class.

I fully understand and I'm one that considers them a rival after living in Des Moines for 15 years.

But....my comment was solely based on my ability to shut up my Hawkeye fan friends.  They have reveled in our mediocrity for way too long.

Completely agree. I wouldn't be sad to see Iowa on a downward trajectory for the next few years - if for nothing else than to quiet some of my friends and family.

Feels like a bit of a crap shoot. My best guess is here, they've talked up guys like Falck and Liewer more than the freshmen but I suspect (hope) they're being a little cagey to make it harder for their DBs to prepare. Typing this out I feel worse than I did before, lol.

    X                   Y                  Slot                    TE

    Warner        Falck            Wan'Dale           Stoll

    Hickman    Betts             Brown                Allen

    Liewer                              Fleming              Vokolek

I don't know what TE actually looks like, Vokolek could even be #1. And if we go 4 wide that will be pulling from the slot, so Brown/Fleming could play before the backup outside guys. But I don't think we've heard back on Martin's eligibility, and I'm just guessing no on Manning. If we have him, he starts over Falck.

Based on what I've read and heard the last couple days I think the WR depth chart shakes out as follows:

    X:  Warner/ Falck / Liewer

Y:  Brown / Betts or Fleming

    R:  Robinson/ Hickman / Belt

TE: Stoll / Vokolek or Allen

Very possible we see Warner and Falck on the field at the same time - including in 4 WR sets. Also expect to see Hickman in both the slot and outside (when we go to trips).

  10. Nebraska will have a nurse with them on the plane to do the COVID-19 testing upon arrival. The Big Ten also just approved that if a player tests positive on the antigen test, they are allowed to do a more thorough PCR lab test on the result to make sure it’s not a false positive. If the PCR test comes back negative they are allowed to play.

Also reports that no new cases on the team since the Big Ten testing began on Sept 30  - some speculation there were a couple false positives which were later overturned by the PCR lab test.

First question is, why did they drop him.

Second question is, do we have room to bring him in?

Answer to first Question: Covid and the "free year" of eligibility this year. I think we are going to see a lot of this because there is a numbers crunch and uncertainty with how this free year will effect numbers down the road. I'm not sure if all recruits will state they have been "dropped" (due to ego) but I anticipate we will see decommits due to the numbers crunch after being informed their spot is no longer committable.

Answer to Second Question: No. Like Mav stated, I think we are good were we at at - especially considering how many o-linemen we have as true fresh and redshirt fresh and will have the same number issue as others.

Chris Hickman should be in the depth chart at one of the WR or Duck R positions.  I know we haven't heard much about him during recent practice weeks, but he should play (unless he's injured).

I completely forgot about Hickman! I think the WR position is the most wide open and toughest to get a read on where guys stack up.

  13. Since Frosty is not releasing a depth chart this week I figured it would be fun to predict now that Fall camp is closed:

    Offense

    QB:  Martinez or McCaffrey

RB:  Mills / R Johnson or R Thompkins

    R: W Robinson/ Fleming

WR: Warner / Falck / Leiwer

WR: Brown / Manning or Betts

    TE: Stoll or Vokolek/ Allen

T: Jaimes / Corcoran or Banks

    G: Wilson / Bando

    C: Jurgens / Farniok

    G: Farniok / Piper

    T: Benhart / Gaylord

    Defense

E: Stille / Green or Rogers

NT: Daniels / Riley or Green

    E: Thomas or Robinson

    OLB: Domann / Heinrich

    ILB: Miller / Reimer

ILB: Honas / Henrich or Mauga-Clement

OLB: Nelson or Tanner / Cooper

    CB: Bootle / Newsome

    CB: Britt-Taylor / Joseph

    S: Dismuke / Farmer

    S: Williams / Poa-Gates

    K: Culp

    P: Prystup

    6-3.

Wins over Purdue, Ill, NW, Wishy, Iowa and Minny.

Losses ot PSU, OSU and whomever the 9th game is.

I agree. I see us only losing to PSU and OSU this year (1 of them twice). Wisc will be a toss up but I think we finally exercise our special teams demons against them and Iowa to pull off close wins.

Watching that live I thought it was pretty crazy. That's a LOT of time to put back on the clock. Weird thing is, nobody commented on it.

Part of that was probably because Gus Johnson was so distracted by how AMAZING Sam Ehlinger is. I almost had to mute him when Ehlinger was on the screen.

You mean BIG Sam? (man did hearing that on Saturday get old).
