can we get a quick recap of the "choices" thus far? i havent felt the want or need to read through all the posts of what people think they know. we may also get an ambitious poster who feels the need to create a new thread with a poll to rehash everything yet again.

Think of any college football coach (past, present, dead, alive) and they have been listed.

  2. Verdu and Austin need to go. The others are good in my opinion and have proven themselves...this move might wake Held up who may be feeling the heat as well.

However, I just don't know if Frost will pull the trigger...loyalty seems to be a huge part for him and these guys were loyal to him coming up from UCF. Will definitely be an interesting off-season!!

I believe you're thinking of Houston Nutt. Coached at Arkansas.

    Thanks...sorry!

Since Coach Freeze was at Briarcrest Chistian School in Memphis until 2004 (high school), I doubt he was offered any FBS head coaching jobs in late 2002 (when Coach Solich was terminated).

He only joined the Ole Miss staff as an assistant in 2004.

Thanks for clarifying...got him mixed up with a different SEC guy.

As I have stated before, and assuming the fanbase is prepared to overlook past conduct (both professional and personal), the best available coach in my opinion would be Hugh Freeze at Liberty.

Freeze and Liberty play his previous employer (Ole Miss) later this year so keep an eye on that game.

November, 2022 will be here before you know it...

Didn't he pass on the Huskers before Pedey settled for Callahan?

Man, woman and child, your comment put 'em in the aisle!  Will you promise to unfriend me as well?

I am crestfallen by your remark and deeply hurt.  Such a great fan showing such intolerance for other views.  The inferiority complex has indeed set in.

Not sure what you are trying to get at with the inferiority complex...just simply stating that if you have detoxed (your words) from the Huskers than coming on here to complain about the team you have 'cleansed' from yourself seems to not match up. Maybe you continue to fall off of the wagon from your detox by coming on here?

Finally, it is great to see other fans moving in the right direction.  Red, welcome to the club.  I officially detoxed from Husker live football in September, 2019 (post-CU meltdown in Boulder).  At first it was awkward, but my weekends are far more enjoyable now.  I actually took up landscaping and work outside on projects during the games to avoid the pull of any game action.

As a fan for 35 years, I found that the games had lost all enjoyment and the results were becoming a drag on my attitude.  Cutting the cord is definitely the right decision.  Enjoy.

You say you have detoxed from Husker football, but here you are telling us how good you are at landscaping on Saturdays. Maybe cut the cord all together and not be on here as well.

They run the Power-T and when they throw it's usually to one of the two HBs. I agree I'd use that big target, but their system is working just fine. Spielman's old HS is a perennial power here. This was #1 vs. #2 and the score was 42-7. The 7 came on a kick return TD.

Correct...I coach against them every year. It is crappy to prepare for in this time of spread, but always a fun smash mouth game. Knowing they can drop a pass to Chase at any point is tough to defend and he is a mauler as a blocker. Hopefully he will develop into a great tackle for the Huskers. Lakeville South is definitely the best big school team in the state.

    Same hometown as Benhart.

Going to TCU next weekend then Michigan State after that.

    Wants to decide this summer.

Same home town, but different high school. I coach against them...they are a wing T team so blocking wise there is a lot going for him.

I went and reflexedly washed my hands for 10 minutes after reading the ESPN article.  So gross.

It was extremely disturbing...what the actual 'f' is wrong with sexual assault laws...I wonder if his attorney (Mallory Hughes) is able to sleep at night knowing that happened and basically blaming the female for what happened.

Do either one of these rapists get signed on with another team?

I may be all alone here but I just don't give a sh#t about this deal any longer. The OU game is going to be played, case closed. The only people this matters to now is A) people that have an axe to grind and, if it wasn't this issue, they would just find something else to b!^@h and moan about. B) some in the media won't let it die because, you know, clicks, and kicking Nebraska while they're down is a hobby for many  C) it may or may not be used to negatively recruit against us but it really doesn't matter if the football team actually starts winning something.  Other than that it's just another opportunity for those that want to b!^@h about Frost or Moos or whatever to continue doing that very thing. There are plenty here on HB who would be complaining about anything and everything if it wasn't for this deal that they fumbled by not getting out in front of sooner and better.

    Now carry on.

    YES!!!!!

    Well said!!

Anyone see that article on the BRT app where it says moos and frost were the only ones talking about maybe canceling the OU game and that it never gained wheels. So that tells me frost never went over moos head and that the conversation was between him and frost. Now they are talking about finding a home game fir September 4th

Sounds a little like people may have over reacted...surprise, surprise.

  12. The expectation that all top kids should stay 'home' is crazy. There are kids all over the country that leave their home state to go somewhere else...top kids do that and they can do that. The biggest issue IMO (and stated by others as well) winning will help. Help is the key word. Living and coaching in MN I see the top kids leave all of the time (one is currently on the Huskers roster). With the success that PJ has had, some of the best kids in state leave. I know comparing MN to the Huskers is not apple to apples, but they have been far more successful than the Huskers over the last 5+ years and it happens to them.

Maybe the staff maintains these relationships and make better connection with the HS coaches in Omaha/across the state to help get there. Also, the two announcing their Top 5 this past week had zero BIG schools in there...that sends an even different message that they want something different.

  13. He never wanted to be at Nebraska...it was obvious with him committing to the Goofs so early and not even stepping foot on the campus. That is fine and good luck to the young man.

The people that are trashing Frost for not getting him and saying they need to keep the in state kids home...the overwhelming majority of the top in state talent stayed home!

Being from MN I see the opposite happening for Fleck...the majority of the top in state talent leave.

Sorry to rant, but kids are going to make their decision. Winning will help some of these guys want to stay, but the connections are obviously there with the high school coaches and kids.

I would agree- they handled the situation very differently.  That said, Frost is a pretty understanding and forgiving guy.  If Luke explored his options and didn't care for the opportunities I think Frost would allow him back IF the team was ok with it.  Sounds like some of the guys were pretty ticked at how he handled it so that may not work?

As stated above, I would have a very hard time trusting a guy that pulled what he did...but that is just me. My weakness of holding a grudge :-).

Maybe, IF he were to decided to come back, Frost could tell him that it will not be at QB...even though he has said he has a future there. I don't see it and I think there are several others that don't see it. He is an athlete that can make plays, just not plays that involve throwing the ball down the field.

We need to move on and believe that Smothers will be the real deal and match the hype he had in high school. Hopefully AM can get things figured out, WRs to stretch the field, and OL that can be consistent.

As a principle, I believe strongly in program continuity.  Having said that, there are two components to continuity, staff and personnel.  Given the player attrition amongst underclassmen that we have witnessed the past 3 years, and the consensus that a degree of this will exist each year with the transfer portal, we need staff who can instill simple concepts quickly, both defense and offense.

In terms of the offense, you know we will be "young and inexperienced" again this year and in year 5 despite the staff continuity.  Despite the excitement over the raft of new players entering the program, it is unrealistic for any of them to be major contributors prior to the end of this upcoming season.

Make no mistake, we are on a 24 month timetable and this will be the "chance" that Lubick and Frost are afforded.

You keep bringing up a 24 month timetable...am I missing something? Are you in the know that Frost have been given a 24 month notice?
