I know Smoothers came in rated a lot higher than Haarberg but we shouldn't discount him.  He has a hell of an arm, can move well, and at 6'5" he has a pretty high ceiling.  A year of conditioning and weight room and he may be a pretty durable option at QB.

Do you think the top tier program make comments about the majority of their guys coming in talking about the weight room and conditioning? I feel like we say this with so many guys coming in. I completely understand the importance of the weight room and getting in that college environment of working out.

  2. To be honest, it does not bother me that they did not go. It was a double edged sword...don't go and all of the armchair coaches jump all over Frost and say the culture sucks, blah, blah, blah. They go with guys not in mentally, physically, emotionally and the armchair coaches jump all over Frost and say the culture sucks, blah, blah, blah. The coaches took a poll and the team decided...that is that, end of story!

I feel many programs/athletes wanted to be done with the craziness of COVID and not being able to see family/get out of town. They finished with W against a conference opponent.

    Wandale gone.

This one hurts...but, the whole COVID thing really messed with kids and their families.

I am sure all of the Frost haters will jump all over this and make it his fault.

Does he go back to UK or???

Plenty annoying to come start an entire thread to neer ner neer on a Husker message board and bash our QB in the process.... The guy is a toolbag no matter how you slice it.

Cy has a long history on this board and has contributed some pretty good discussion. Now that ISU is actually relevant he can finally boast a little.

  5. PJ Fleck flew around the metro area here in MN recruiting kids. He flew to our stadium to watch/make appearance for the kid from Edina (that signed with Notre Dame) and went down to Lakeville North to watch Bryce Benhart (that signed with the Huskers)...haha! Fleck is such a tool. That little trip didn't work out so well for him since he missed out on the top two lineman in the state!

    we’d have to fire someone

You are correct...forgot about that! Lubick/Verduzco would have to go then. Seems to be crossover in those two spots. How about a ST analyst. We can pull an Alabama and get a former coach to come in.

Next year is the real year to judge Frost and the staff's performance. By next year they'll have majority of their classes in the program and those from the Riley era will have been coached more under Frost then Riley. If we are another 4-8, 5-7 type team next year, then that tells me development isn't happening and Frost should probably start looking at coaches who aren't doing their jobs in development.

4-8/5-7 could very well happen next year with the schedule we have...really hope there are big strides this off-season or things will get dicey really quick!

  8. Makes you wonder how Fleck is going to handle this...rumors of him putting the pressure on for kids to commit and it AD is not sure, do they move on?? Fleck is such a puke he might force AD's hand??

On the flip side, how much pressure did Bretz and crew put on/putting on? Would be interesting to hear the chatter...

  9. I just wish once coaches would tell it like it is....as a teacher and coach myself there are moments I wish I could, but know that it will sell the kid out, not help in the end and make me look like an a$$, . One can wish though :)

  10. Is Milton truly back is the question I have. He was great at UCF during their run, but what did he truly lose after the injury. Do we have the weapons to surround him with? I do not care at all about feelings of a player that he would take over for...that is what happens each year when a new recruiting class comes in. If, and a big if, Milton were to come and AM to transfer out...is there a top program that would go after AM after the last two seasons he has had for the Huskers? Is AM 'stuck' here? After his freshman season I am confident there would have been top tier programs that would take him in, but now??

This will be interesting to follow that is for sure!

  11. There were moments where the defense was flying around like I have not really seen in a while.

The offense is suspect...very inconsistent and need to work on ball security with the QB (unacceptable by AM!)

The BIG is a joke and two players are going to have miss playing because of it....just watched a worse hit in the Alabama/Tennessee game and the player is still in the game. UNREAL!

Gopher fans are a unique bunch. Most are fine and dont take it too seriously. They have lived in so many other teams shadows that when they get a little bit of success they seem to let it go to their head.

The shots at Frost for blocking the transfer seem silly especially when some up here who have connections to the Gophers(Ron Johnson) have been openly recruiting JD for over a year...

Gophers are a good team but I find this assumption that they will destroy the Huskers for years to come as laughable. They are the better team now but things can change.

Oh believe me, I know. Living in MN and having to hear the crap it crazy. The true fans are pretty good about it, but the fans that are just hopping on the last two years are unreal. Hope the Huskers can get back to form and put them back in their place!

  13. I’ve watched this game twice in the last two weeks. It is unreal how dominant they really were. Another person I enjoyed watching was Farley....just a beast!

Not surprised on this one....Malcolm and Kpai probably end up ILB - Payton and Schweitzer OLB.

I would have also offered Ratzlaff from MN and Weerts from IL

Ratlaff  is great...coach against him. All around great athlete! Will be interesting if he goes the football route or sticks with hockey.

You and I have opposing views at times, but that's what makes this board enjoyable.  Other views:D

I can't agree with you enough.  My comments are slightly harsher.  If you don't want to be here, see ya.  Take the drama with you and leave.  Best of luck.  Thanks for your dedication, but I can't help but think that he might have been one of the "leaders" not bought into the Frost vision.  Kid carries a lot of weight with the team and his comments/attitude/etc have consequences for the team.  Good, bad or indifferent.  His actions speak loud to me.  And I can't stand the passive aggressive sh!t.  See ya.

He is from MN...that is how we live our lives up here :-)

  16. I used to think Fleck was great. He came to our state football coaches conference and spoke (he was still at WM). Once he was hired here at MN I began to slowly dislike him more and more. It is all show with him. He flew a helicopter to watch a kid he was recruiting. It was unreal how much of an a$$ he was and thought we needed to stop our pregame and talk. Made it all about him!

We’ve had a couple of kids go there and listening to them talk about him is interesting. Cult like...put on the black adidas shoes, lay in a circle of rocks, and drink the koolaid type of cult.

To me, it doesn’t really matter so much that his kid went to Iowa...  But, it does matter A LOT if he’s trashing program in some form...  (Which is what JP seems to be implying and I agree with his take if so)

This. If he felt Iowa was a better fit for whatever reason, more power to him. However, if CJ was indeed bashing the Huskers that is not a good look at all.
In the end, we need to have guys that want to be N and committed to what Frost and Co. are doing.
