  1. that may have been the hand off... looks like he never secured it after pulling it out of the rb's belly.
  2. Yup, good 5-7 minute drive for a touchdown, give the defense some rest, and force snyder to start putting the ball up in the air.
  3. snyder is a step ahead of the pelinis right now
  4. Interesting. I didn't have a problem with him or his reactions after TT and ISU games last year. I was talking about overall winning for the whole season. His arrogance and temperament is excepted because he has been successful so far. Billy C. was just as arrogant and smug but he also blew it with his win/loss record so it wasn’t tolerated. IMO Also his system is a proven system so he has every right to be arrogant because he knows he is good and has proven it. Pelini and Callahan are complete opposites when it comes to dealing with the media. If Pelini starts giving up 50 points/game, he's not going to stick with his system, he's going to overhaul it. And he's not going to be calm in the media firestorm that would ensue a losing streak. He's going to be ticked off, which he should be, which is part of why we all trust him to do the job. The only arrogance I see in Pelini's handling of the media is when he gets really stupid questions, and can't keep himself from giving a condescending answer. Any football coach worth the money he gets paid has the same problem, since the media asks a LOT of stupid questions. It's the same reason artists usually don't have respect for their critics: The journalists who are writing and critiquing their job performance usually have relatively little knowledge of the artists'/coaches' craft. edit: Also, Bill Callahan didn't get fired because he was smug or arrogant. He got fired because he lost. If Bo loses, nobody is going to care about how arrogant he was, and if he were super nice all the time, nobody would give him any more loyalty then they would have Callahan after losing 5 or 6 games. They're measured by wins and losses alone.
  5. Wait, what? We're going 0-8 in Big 12 play? Way to have confidence in the squad, Tom. I wonder if he mispoke or they actually typed it wrong on purpose I'm not sure, but I laughed. Kinda seems like one of those classic Osborne remarks, where he makes fun of someone, and everyone responds with a double take.
  6. Man, I had better things to do than watch that interview. Sometime, Bo needs to say something totally out of character, just to blow our minds.
  7. Dual Threat i mean anyone who can run and pass on a college level. Vick did both in college but then just ran in NFL. I seem to remember a video based on Ocean's Eleven but with sport convicts and wrongdoers and Vick is suppose to pull the pin of a grenade and throw it, instead he pulls the pin and scrambles. Everyone in the room shouted "Don't scramble throw it!" Time again the NFL proves that running QB's just can't cut it in the pros, you either have to be a passer who can run or a passer, you can't be a running QB and make it in the pros. So, by your definition, does Tommie Frazier count as a dual-threat, or a running QB? What about Turner Gill?
  8. I hope so. Oklahoma was almost the only reason any of us felt even a little bad about leaving the Big 12.
  9. 1. I don't know why it's laughable to compare the 90's QB's to Martinez. Premature, yes, but not laughable. He's that kind of player, more than Lee is. I'm not sure he's even as polished a passer as Frazier/Frost/Crouch, and he's certainly not to Gill/Berringer level, but it's also too early to tell any of that with Martinez, in my opinion. We've still barely seen him play. 2. The 90's teams DID have to throw the ball, but only enough to keep defenses honest. Defenses started creeping up, and Frazier had to be able to hit a completely wide open tight end on a playaction pass. If Taylor can't do that, we might be in trouble, but one bad game isn't going to convince me that he can't throw. Even great, polished passers have bad games, and even Taylor's worst game at this point wasn't as bad as recent games played by Colt McCoy, Landry Jones and Jake Locker, three relatively big-time passers. 3. I'm not sure how good our running game is just yet... The offensive line definitely isn't at mid-90's level, but it might be reasonably close to 2001 level. When you compare our offense to those (which put up quite a few points with a running game), we have just as explosive of a runner at QB, better running backs (Helu/Burkhead vs. Dahrran Diedrick) less experienced TE's, and comparable receiver corps.
  10. It is something isn't it? 10,000 posts worrying if Tmart can throw the "long ball". lol! Like Crouch, Frazier, Frost, etc ever could.....all they did was "win". YOU make some excellent points but unfortunately they don"t apply to this year and this team the guys you mention didn"t have to throw the ball because they had the best lines college football could offer also bama probably isn"t worried about fluffy offenses but they would worry about the "fluffy" offense a whole lot more than our run first run middle and run last offense. Good passers don't throw the balls that Tmart has thrown. those of you that believe we can win every game without an effective passing game are well foolish. I too am not opposed to Tmart starting but I must agree that Lee being 3rd is more than a talent issue. I talk daily with people that attend practice regularly. they say the same Tmart can really run but he can't throw it And you're foolish if you think that we could have any passing game whatsoever without an effective running game. We could have Peyton Manning in the backfield, but if we can't run the ball, our offense isn't going to move the ball an inch. The whole offensive transformation is just the process of Nebraska coming back around to what Nebraska is and has been, what works for us. That's being physical, running the ball, and playing great defense. That's what won us national championships, and by the way, it's what won Florida and Alabama national championships the last few years too. have you heard of the names Helu and Burkhead? We have Running Backs (get the meaning of that word) to run the ball and they happen to be pretty damned good. don't need a QB to run to have a good running game You're right! I mean, Helu and Burkhead were dominant last year. It was like they could do whatever they wanted against Texas... oh wait...
  11. Prediction: Within 10 posts, this thread will be this: edit: I guess I should answer - born in 1987, can remember following the team since 1993, and I favor "dual-threat" QB, but lean towards running QB. I kind of feel like any running QB is a dual-threat QB, but maybe when you say "dual-threat" you're only talking about guys like Michael Vick, who are NFL-capable passers.

  13. Picking your starting lineup isn't about loyalty. We hear EVERY SINGLE DAY about how this program is about competition, and on-the-field results. That's why Martinez is starting. Not because of a lack of loyalty or because the coaches are teenage girls who go around holding grudges against players they mysteriously dislike.
  14. I'm pretty sure Martinez could lead the team to an undefeated season, Big 12 championship, and a national championship, win the Heisman trophy and the Davey O'Brien award, and some people on this board will maintain that we would have been better off with Zac Lee.
  15. Honestly would not be that surprised to see a blowout. Especially if Nebraska jumps on them early, I think Texas will fold. Don't know what McKewon is talking about. Texas isn't used to playing for pride, they're used to playing for big 12 championships and national championships. If they had beaten Oklahoma, they'd still be in the race for both (or they would have thought they were). I don't think the game got easier, but I don't think it got harder either.
  16. For cryin' out loud, reading the posts in this thread actually makes me sorry I started it. I like Zac Lee - great guy, team player. But his big-play threat last year was to throw the ball up for grabs and hope that Niles Paul would come down with it. It worked against Kansas and Missouri... Not so much against Texas. Can we stop pretending that we just benched Joe Namath?
  17. It must also be nice for the tinfoil hatters in that if we don't win the MNC this season––an overwhelming statistical probability, by the way––their position is unfalsifiable. As Unlce Rico says, "I tell ya, if Lee had started all year, no doubt in my mind, we'd have won it all. No doubt in my mind." If Bobby Newcombe had been the starting QB in 2001, we definitely would have won the national championship.
