Doc Sadler has no qualms saying this is his most talented team since he took over at Nebraska.

Now he just needs for this group to get healthy.

For the last few days, he's had difficulty fielding a team in practice. Toney McCray has been out after a pair of foot surgeries this summer. Caleb Walker, Corey Hilliard and Brandon Ubel have all been out for the past few days with ankle injuries and Dylan Talley has missed the last three practices with a thigh injury.

Then toss in 6-foot-11 senior Andre Almeida, whose knee is in bad shape and can't practice at all, and 6-foot-11 junior Christopher Niemann, whose knee injuries have forced Sadler to limit him to one end of the floor in practice.

"He doesn't change ends of the floor at all," Sadler said of Niemann. "When we play up and down, we keep him on the defensive end."

Sadler said he's hopeful that those two big guys can get healthy enough to give him a combined 12-15 minutes per game this season.

Sadler will enter the Big Ten with a team that was a couple of plays away from getting to the NCAA tournament a year ago. Sure, he's without leading scorer Lance Jeter - but there's more overall talent on this team than a year ago.

"This is definitely the best team we've had," Sadler said.

Look for LSU transfer Bo Spencer to battle senior Brandon Richardson (the two can also play together) at the point. McCray and Caleb Walker who started nearly 50 games a year ago - will likely start on the wings and Sadler will have juniors Jorge Brian Diaz (10.5 ppg) and Ubel up front.

Sadler also raves about the potential of 6-foot-7 freshman David Rivers.

"He's going to be special," Sadler said. "He can shoot it, he has a feel for the game and plays his butt off. He's got a chance to be one of the best I've had."

While Sadler is optimistic about his talent, he also realizes stepping into the Big Ten won't be an easy acclimation.

Especially with an unforgiving league slate that includes two games against each of Ohio State and Wisconsin among the first eight.

"You know in the Big 12 how to play people," Sadler said. "You know their strengths and weaknesses. I don't have any idea right now in the Big Ten."

Should be an interesting and exciting season

  2. Nebraska Miscellany

-Tom Osborne is the most popular person PPP has ever polled on anywhere and Bo Pelini isn't far behind. An amazing 86% of voters in the state have a favorable opinion of Osborne to 6% with a negative one. He has to be just about the most popular person in American History to lose an election. Pelini is seen postively by 70% of voters to 14% with a negative opinion. It's rare when we poll a state to find a college football coach that 70% of voters have ever even heard of, much less have a positive opinion of. If there's a state in the country that embraces a college football program more than Nebraska does the Cornhuskers I haven't polled it yet.

-Nebraskans aren't looking back on their school's move to the Big 1o for this year. 65% are glad they moved to only 12% who wish they had remained in the Big 12. This is interesting in light of the fact that in most states we're finding voters don't want their schools to switch conferences- it may be that once the move is made people quickly get behind it.

I think he's on to something :sarcasm

  3. It's pretty easy to look at their squad and say "oh, terrible offense", but they are hanging around in games with decent defense and capitalizing on turnovers and short fields. They could get to 10 wins and dare I say, they have a better shot of knocking off OU at home than OSU does in Norman. I find the possibility of KSU grabbing at least a share of the Big 12 title and Texas losing every remaining game hilarious.

No way KSU has a shot at the Big 12 title game. Oklahoma and Okie Lite are looking good and save for a few second half collapses Texas a&m isn't to shabby either. I predict they'll go 1-3 over the next four games.

Thought this was an interesting link that shows on a state-by-state basis who is ranking Nebraska and where (over, under, even) compared to their final average.

Of note--the entire Big XII is underranking Nebraska currently.

Also, of note--certain Big 10 states who have undefeated teams that may play Nebraska in the future are over-ranking us according to the map; specifically, Wisconsin and Illinois.

Take that for what you will.

Actually Wisconsin has us underranked at #18. Illinois apparently does not get the BTN or any of our games cuz they have us ranked #12.

Or they are drinking the Kool-aid

  5. No amount of screaming and cussing will get a team back that has tuned you out. I think it's time for Bo to change how he is trying to reach this team. Screaming and yelling is obiviously not getting the job at this time.
It wouldn't work with me if I was a player. Maybe I'm in the minority, but it would just piss me off and make me want to punch him in the balls. It would completely take my focus off of what I'm supposed to do. Maybe that's the case with a lot of these players??
Did you ever play football? It's simple. Quit F-ING up and your coach will quit yelling at you...
I'm sure you were an awesome football player. See my response above. Yes, I played football.
You must not have played much because teaching is done AFTER the game not during. You mess up and you get yelled at and possibly benched at every level.
There you go. I sat the bench. I didn't start at both positions I played. There was plenty of coaching during the game and for you to think otherwise must mean you had an excellent coach. The teaching that occured AFTER the last game obviously didn't stick.
Well here is the difference. I was always a starter. There was no time for teaching when you are playing.
Wow, maybe you should whip your dick out and show everybody how big it is. Don't you think that maybe just maybe some of these kids grew up without much structure or discipline in their lives and maybe just maybe they don't respond the same way you do because you're such a badass?

Quit now. Before the awkward moment when both of you realize you were in a pissing contest and now you're just left holding your dicks out

  6. Obviously if we wore black uniforms for one game a year it would form a wormhole that would erase all of our past achievements, history and tradition.

    Good post!

Wearing a black jersey once = loss of tradition (To some in this thread)

But who the f#*k lists Scarlett and Cream as a huge tradition at Nebraska? The first ten things on my list when I think of tradition are (in no particular order):

    1. Blackshirts

    2. Tunnel Walk

    3. The Sellouts

    4. Walk-Ons

    5. The Retired Jerseys

    6. The Heisman Trio

    7. Bowl Games

    8. The Back-to-Backs (70', 71') and (94', 95')

    9. The Decade of Dominance

    10. Academic All-Americans

I don't see how a black jersey takes any of that away from us. It is what it is, a jersey.

  7. I was never to keen on rooting for Big 12 teams, and there's only maybe 3 from that conference that I can actually root for. But, most teams I could stand because they sucked so bad. But I found myself rooting for the Big Ten teams last weekend. As long as they're not playing us.
