  1. I'd cry tears of joy if it was Urban...I also think that Kiffin could do absolute damage in Lincoln right now with Mickey here as well. He would bring a much better staff and those two recruiting would be solid. Proven HC imo that would bring a lot of attention to Lincoln. My top 5 still remains the same...though no idea who has real mutual interest.

    1. Urban

    2. Petersen

    3. Kiffin

    4. Klieman

    5. Fleck

    • Oh Yeah! 1
  2. Each coach takes over a better/worse situation but here are the ranked win % for each HC

Bill O'Brien 3-3 vs ranked teams at Penn St (50%)
Aranda 4-5 vs ranked teams at Baylor (44%)
Lane Kiffin 4-5 vs ranked teams at Ole Miss (44%)
Klieman 4-6 vs ranked teams at Kansas St (40%)
Luke Fickell 6-10 vs ranked teams at Cincinnati (37%)
Campbell 10-19 vs ranked teams at Iowa St (34%)
Mark Stoops 11-22 vs ranked team at Kentucky (33%)
Fleck 3-11 vs ranked teams at Minnesota (21%)
Leipold 1-4 vs ranked teams at Kansas (20%)
Jeff Monken 0-9 vs ranked teams at Army (0%)
Rhule 0-10 vs ranked teams at Baylor (0%)

I don't get what is so fascinating about the Army coach. Yes his offense runs the option but do you really believe that would make us good again?  Everyone here does remember the National Championship game in 2001. I remember nothing really worked and then thinking the option is outdated. Miami figured how to stop it and had the team to do so but in this generation I don't think the option would give any good teams a problem.

01' Miami is nothing short of second best college team ever. Nebraska got housed by Colorado not long prior at home that year

-This year's run play percentage: 51.16

-Last year's run play percentage: 55.44

Now admittedly, a 4.28% difference is actually a big jump. So I guess I'd sort of agree with your pushback.

But I think the trajectory was trying to go more with Grant as the workhorse until it was apparent just how terrible the offensive line really was once we got to the stretch of decent opponents (meaning starting with Oklahoma).

No way we put up the yards & points we did against Purdue if the plan had been to just hand it off to Grant a bunch.

At any rate we agree that without a decent line it's all a bit moot anyway, but I still have to argue that with a good offensive line your scheme is less of a question (even in the B1G West). I think the reason teams run that scheme in this division is because they can't recruit the skill players.

Yeah that's fair...I think defense matters the most. Wisconsin/Iowa always seem to be good on D and Illinois turned the corner this year with defense as well. For the record I think Whip is a good OC, but almost seems like it hurts his soul to be boring and grind a game out. Hell, he somehow thought Purdy was the option over LS. Grant should of had nothing less than 30 carries last vs MN.

But here's the thing with that: I'm going to say that we did try to "get back to running the ball" this season. We actually brought in a good running back and scheme-wise, we did try.

I just always read these statements as people being upset with the play call mix.

Really what we need is a recruiting staff that prioritizes the offensive line, IMO.

Having an offensive line is the most important part. Not sure we tried to run the ball this year with Whip as OC who threw a lot at Pitt. I never liked Chinander and his defense here.

I think if it comes down to Ferentz "retiring" he may be able to work out a golden parachute with Iowa's AD.

Iowa won the west last year....people way over reacting right now. His son needs to be fired yes, but not Kirk.

Chadwell isn’t going anywhere as an OC. If he’s not hired by GT then he’ll just stay put. I do prefer him over Monken.

In regards to Rhule’s recruiting, he now has the NFL pedigree… that goes a long way with recruits.

I still love Chadwell's offense...he would need to bring in mostly a new staff unlike Frost's decision. With that said I doubt he is in the running.

  8. The longer we wait the more doubts it's Mickey right? If you are going to stick with him then you would announce for recruiting, NIL, transfer portal purposes. IF Trev wants it to be him then you can't wait to get trounced @ Michigan. The earlier the better IMO unless it is someone else then he will wait till day after Black Friday I would think.

Where is the poster who has said the "preparedness" of the team has improved under Mickey?  If Purdy couldn't practice, and gets limited reps to begin with, why is he still 2nd string?

Whip's guy and he felt Smothers couldn't pass well enough. Little does he know Purdy is only good at scrambling. I hope Logan is the guy this week unless CT is ready.

    Has he?

Semi-unfair question because his prize recruit to this point has been injured repeatedly. But outside of Fidone.....

Recruiting: snagged a few Neb kids (Hickman, Rollins, Carne) that are likely "N" with any competent coach. Vokolek transfered here but pre-existing ties to the program. He gets a lot of credit for recruiting Georgia kids at other positions, but have many of them turned out? Snagged another project in 2022, one who didn't have an offer from his in-state Big10 school.

Development/Depth: He turned Allen into a stud, great job there. Vokolek seems to be a quality P5 TE, but not a game changer. But we have absolutely 0 depth behind him to where we are forced to play an 200lb transformed WR (Brewington) and a 210lb below average walk-on (Boerkicher).

I think Allen last year makes people think this room is better than it should be in year 5.

Allen was 1st team all B10 and broke the school record for receiving yards as tight end....he then landed the #1 TE in the nation. Voke is a solid TE imo as his blocking is good. Most people wanted Thompkins but couldn't get healthy. Newsome has been an above average CB here. Landed some local kids who deserved scholarships -- I've seen others leave the state. For a TE coach I think he has been good for us. If he isn't retained I don't think it's a major blow by any means but get realistic here.

    A) With the new TV deal next year, money won't be an issue.  We can have a highly paid HC and highly paid assistants.

    B) Ruud, really?  I would be extremely disappointed if we keep that many assistants.  All of the Frost UCF guys need to be gone IMO.

Applewhite and Busch I wouldn't count as Frost guys....Beckton has shown well in recruiting and TE production.

So if you can't get your two no-brainers, you'd take the guy with by far the thinnest resume of remaining candidates?

And only if Mickey meets your demands?

Yes and yes. This doesn't mean that I would hate a few other options that are realistic, but if no home run hire then I don't see the issue with sticking with Mickey. He would take less money to leave room for higher paid assistants. We need OL and DL coaches like we never have before. I also want a proven DC - move Busch to db/safeties coach. Gimme an OC that has a run first mentality and a new S&C coach. I'm fine with keeping Applewhite, Busch and Beckton. Fisher and Ruud I wouldn't hate if kept as well. All others need the boot.

  13. I love how many fans are flavor of the week when it comes to coaching. It's truly astonishing to see.

Right when Frost was fired....Aranda, Campbell, Leipold - these would be great hires! Now those coaches suck!

After the Rutgers game. Mickey Joseph is our guy! Now no way we can offer him the HC job!

We now need Klieman cause they just dismantled Okie St! etc. etc.
