  1. Although not favored, I'm pulling for CSU on 3Sep!
  2. I was unable toestablish a hyperlink, so go to www.denverpost.com, click on colleges under sports and then review the chart under the Big 12 article (at the end). Coach Barnet says that the Big 12 North cannot compete with the Big 12 South due to their spending.
  3. In 1959 my Dad and I watched NU break the OU conference win streak. (I was a frosh at Nebr Wesleyan). I believe it was a week after ND broke their national game consecutive streak. Although we won, that Sooner team was like watching a ballet. They jogged to the huddle, stopped for maybe one second, then jogged to the formation and without more than a count snapped the ball. Their sweeps were a thing of beauty. Bud Wilkinson was a one in a kind. He had the knowledge, the organization and a lot of class. Following the game the students tore down the goal posts (in concrete) and paraded them down O ST. I read later that the crowd noise, in the movie Ben Hur, was recorded at that game. My Dad was a frosh at NU in '29 and worked concessions in the stadium to make ends meet. He saw the great ND team and also saw the great Army team get defeated. Because the depression hit he was forced out of school. The next time you are in the stadium or see pictures, try to envion the size it was then!
  4. I'm a big Broncos fan and I love the change in uniforms. The all blue is particularly good looking. I also like Miami's design. I agree that Oregon's colors are obnoxious. I've always wondered how the main Husker logo, used now on everything, would look on the side of the helmet in place of the skinny N. I suppose that comment will bring people out of the woodwork!!!
  5. Word out of camp is that Congdon and Dyches are neck and neck. This is odd I think given last years stats: The following is a copy of rojo's comment on another forum: Our Field Goal kicking: The worst last year. To among the best for '05? Last fall, our field goal kicking really stunk. I. 2004: Big 12 Field Goal Kicking Percentages 1. Texas A&M........... 13/14 .929 2. Kansas State........ 13/15 .867 3. Colorado............ 23/29 .793 4. Baylor.............. 11/15 .733 5. Texas............... 12/17 .706 6. Oklahoma State...... 11/17 .647 7. Missouri............ 11/19 .579 8. Kansas.............. 12/21 .571 9. Oklahoma............ 9/17 .529 10 Iowa State.......... 11/21 .524 11 Texas Tech.......... 7/14 .500 12 Nebraska............ 6/12 .500 [ DeAngelis 4/9; Dyches 2/3] . Is the info out of camp meant to stir up competition, rather than provide us with the real skinny?
  6. Everytime there is talk of a unform change fans think that it is a slap at tradition. What is tradition for the uniforms when they are changed several times in a century? Since Devaney several changes have been made. Should they have stayed the same? The Broncos' fans screamed in the '90s when Denver dramatically changed the uniforms. After a couple of Super Bowl wins and time to adjust to the change acceptance followed. Uniforms get dated and as long as the style is appropriately addressing the university and the time honored color scheme, then updating is a good thing. Miami updated a few yearfs ago and they look much better and modern without losing the teams traditional look. Do you folks remember the change from the rounded numbers of the '60s? Did changing them break tradition? I'm in favor of their major sponsor, Rebok, to submit different styles to the Athletic Dept and then get the fans input. PS The WCO isn't traditional either. When we start winning championships it won't be a bone of contention either!
  7. I haven't noticed any talk about Glenn being our fullback, replacing Todd. Last year BC didn't hardly use Todd because he is an ISO type bruiser for short yardage with little skill in turning a corner, catching or running routes. Glenn cqn do all of this and would be a great complement to the Tailback. Mike Anderson with the Broncos has been used in just that manner in the past. Because he can run so well it throws off the defense just a bit, unlike any confusion over Todd. Or to put it another way, if BC only used Todd in the one-dimentional blocking mode, why wouldn't he make a change?
  8. In order to make a valid point about college offensive schemes, actual examples of teams results need to be made. What teams last year were in the Top 10 final ranking in DIV 1 that did not use the WCO or a close alternative (Tex Tech/ OU), but were successful with an option game? Air Force employs the option, but isn't, nor will ever be, in that category of success. OU and USC and Auburn adopted the WCO and turned their programs around. The NU championship team offense of the mid-nineties is over and done. The same with the OU wiahbone. The same with the USC option. game. Player after player who has been recruited by BC has stated clearly their interest is in the WCO. They simply would have gone elsewhere had we not changed. Living in the past in enjoyable for nostalgic reasons, but is not to be applied to today's offense.
  9. Am I recalling accurately that ASU's offense didn't score a touchdown in that game? I think that their defense scored the most points, including at least 2 safeties!
  10. Speaking of that ASU game, this is a trivial pursuit question: What points, by ASU's offense, were scored in that game?
  11. If Herian redshirts, who is the likely successor? I don't see Phillips in this offense.
  12. The following is my take on the new starters or who will share that position from those who held the #1 position in The Spring Fling; Offense: QB Taylor shared w/Beck RB Ross shared w/Lucky FB Todd replaced by Glenn ("wrecking ball, who can catch and run patterns") WR Nunn shared w/Brooks WR Fluellen shared w/Hardy TE Phillips replaced by ? (Phillips can't catch) RG Austin replaced by Roark (Austin's knee will keep him at 85%) Defense DT Adams replaced by Muhammed DE Carriker shared w/ Suh (position is double teamed, needs rotation) MIKE Brandenberg replaced by Dillard (McKeon backup) FS Shanle replaced by L Jackson RCB Green replaced by Bowman Special PK Dyches replaced by Congdon PR/KR Rands, L Jackson, Green & Hardy 8 replaced/5 shared. Where am I going wrong?
