As a Democrat voting in a time period where Republicans have massive institutional advantages in elections, Trump is the gift that keeps on giving. Since 2016, the electoral environment is so stacked against Democrats that we're deeply fortunate that they won a Trifecta in 2020 and still held onto the Senate in 2022.

Republicans are squandering a decade in which they should easily be winning elections based on the fundamentals of the Senate, Electoral College, and gerrymandered house districts. Now, I do deeply wish that the threat that MAGA Republicans was not the other option. I like winning elections and passing good bills, but I don't want the risk of losing an election to be a danger to America.

I hope they go back to nominating Mitt Romney types. But we'll see. Republicans might be to far gone to be saved.

This is a pretty good summary and reflects my thoughts. I’d rather not have the fear of a dictatorship, but the insanity increases the chances of them losing elections.

Championship meaning - SEC championship.  Sorry I didn't clarify.  I think those 2 coaches I mentioned would keep Bama within the top 2 of the conference and playing for SEC titles.

With DeBoer, I feel Georgia will remain at the top, and Texas and quite possibly OU will be a tougher challenge for Bama to get the #2 spot.  Toss in LSU, A&M, Tennessee..... it's going to be more challenging for Bama to make the SEC title game without Saban there.  I believe Day or Lanning would keep Bama in the top 2 of the SEC.

    Gotcha

I'm just glad the new coach didn't end up being Ryan Day.  Or Dan Lanning from Oregon.  If either of those guys went to Tuscaloosa, I don't think Alabama would ever lose more than one championship every 5 years.

Thank goodness those guys realized that with Saban gone, their own path to a championship just got easier.  Plus they are already rich, they are the face of their winning programs, and their schools doll out good NIL deals.  Alabama can't match that, and most players went to Bama to play for Saban and get to the NFL.

So I'm very happy Alabama did the best that they could by getting a coach down the line to say "yes", DeBoer.

Won't be easy following the footsteps of Saban.  But I think Nick will help from an office as much as he can.

    The new Alabama #9 wins

I don't understand your logic in thinking Ryan Day would win 4 NC out of 5. His player talent would only increase minimally. OSU typically recruits in the top 5 and he hasn't done it yet. It's possible he'd do slightly better at Alabama, but I don't think slightly better would mean winning the NC almost every year.

The rumor that Gerasimov was killed started on a Telegram channel and the post has since been deleted.  Visegrad ran with the story prematurely and as a source has really dropped the ball a lot lately.  Unfortunately, I don't think he's dead yet but I'd love to be wrong.

Putin next??  The Ukrainians are getting pretty skilled at targeting the right people.

Ya, in case anyone wasn't aware, the guy they're saying who got killed is the 3rd most powerful person in the Russian military, behind Putin and Shoigu.

The head of Putin's favorite newspaper was found dead recently too, also young. Are these Putin's doing because their reporting fell out of favor, or his Russian enemies' doing?

In the 25 seasons since Nebraska split the National Championship in the end of the polling era, there have been 13 different national champions. Even with the dynasties, that's a fair representation, and there's not a cinderella team in the bunch. It's the place for blue bloods. Look at the years prior to 1997, and it's a blue blood world there, too, with the glaring exception of BYU. The blue bloods have taken turns having down cycles, but they typically aren't down for long. Nebraska's drought has been longer than most, although Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame, Georgia and Oklahoma slogged through their own troughs.

That being said, everything has changed. Columnist in my morning paper claims Monday is the end of college football as we once knew it. Hard to argue. Conferences, traditions, and player loyalty are basically a free-for-all. But a 12 game playoff would certainly open the door for cinderella stories, which happen every year in NCAA basketball. Anything is possible for a team that catches fire. And stays healthy.

Maybe it's me, but sometimes when I'm watching a supposed powerhouse like Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State or Michigan, I'm thinking.....they really aren't that great. I mean, a Scott Frost coached Nebraska team took three Top 10 teams (and 6 Top 20 teams) down to the wire one season.

I think some of the “free-for-all” stuff will be improved. Everything is so new now. It takes time to make adjustments. A couple things being mentioned:

Don’t open the transfer portal until bowl season is over

Player contracts - they get more $ if they stay X years.

what happens in 10 years when Nebraska still is having 5-7 seasons, 20 seasons...still a blue blood.  I don't think it is realist as a fan to consider my program a blue blood when it just had a good 30 year run is all I am saying. it leads to unrealistic expectations. We play at the level of Minnesota, our program is alot like Minnesota. Minnesota in 1970 would have been considered a blue blood and Nebraska not. just sayin

competing for national titles, i think that is how a blue blood would define themselves

We aren't 10 years from now. Why don't you ask in 10 years? You're assuming we're going to continue having lots of losing seasons. You should have asked this as a prediction; i.e. will we still be considered a blue blood in 10 years if *this* happens.

Michigan is as far removed from a national championship as we are, and started competing for them again 2 years ago. We have 1 more conference championship than they have and more than that unshared. We have 4 more national championships than they have in the past 55 years.

Now the thing I'm debating is does he mean greatness bc of the multiple championships in a 4 year span or greatness in the sense of winning one??

Based on a quick glance, there are only 8 teams that have done that since 1970. It's unlikely he's talking about multiple championships in a short span. A normal person talking about this would probably mean win a national championship and vie for conference championships regularly.

Once you know how the rest of the game plays out, it's easier to say what could/should have been done.

At the time - 3rd & Goal with 2:44 left - the decision was between making Texas use a time out or going for more points, which would have made Texas score two TDs, not a TD and a FG.  I don't think going for more points was a bad choice.

Texas didn't even need to use any of their timeouts to get inside Washington's 10 yard line.  And they could have saved about as much as a timeout would have saved by kicking the FG earlier on the ensuing drive.  So I don't think it's accurate to say Texas wouldn't have touched the ball again.  Too many variables.

Well, I was talking about their drive with 12:30 left as it happened, but none of the rest of the stuff Washington did struck me as stupid.

So....they signed what, 6 HS players?  A bunch of players are transferring out.  I'm not seeing the buzz like last year with players wanting to transfer in.  It's possible that I'm just not seeing it and it's there.

But....it's going to be really interesting to see if Sanders can fill out a roster again for next year.

Maybe with walk ons, if Colorado has those.
