  1. i need specifics, what exactly did paul say in the article that makes him deserving of all the vitriol?

You already have specifics. 3 of the 4 quotes annoyed me. It's all "me me me, I deserve the ball more and I'm talented"

Everyone else talks about the team. It's okay for him to be mad, but not to say these things to the press.

  2. Well if the kids wants the ball so dam bad...then he needs to start protecting, and holding on to the ball alot better then!!

and getting open. If Kinnie is the one getting most of the catches, there's a reason for it. It's not for some made up reason in Paul's head, that he's being ignored 'cause they're a bunch of meanies who aren't paying him enough attention.

  3. It's fine if he wants to bring that up in a coach's office, but you don't take it to the press, it just makes you look like a me-first guy, especially when the team is unbeaten and you're talking about what needs to change to get you the ball more.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's reprimanded somehow. I think he should be. I don't remember hearing a Nebraska player talking that way in public since Bobby Newcombe, and that was after he graduated.

  4. And since y'all hate Mobilehoma about as much as we do...

While I'm a far cry from the majority on here, I think you'll find that most of us Nebraska fans don't hate Mobilehoma as you call them at all.

Agreed, junior. And I think most would agree with that. When we leave the Big 12 I'll be rooting for OU more often than not.

Oklahoma is my 2nd favorite team.

  5. I think the QB needs to be able to pass decently. Like someone pointed out in a different thread, Martinez isn't behind one of the best offensive lines in history. We're not going to end up averaging 7-8 yards per carry (or whatever crazy number it was in 1995). I thought he looked really good passing against Washington, and then really bad against SDS. Hopefully the good passing is the norm.

Nebraska is currently 4th in the nation for Rushing Offense averaging 7.03 yds per carry/309.25 per game.

The key part of my quote is "We're not going to end up" and I put that there because I know we're averaging that now, against horrible defenses. I highly doubt that our average will be over 6 at the end but I'll be happy it is. We still have some bad defenses to play, though.

  6. So, by your definition, does Tommie Frazier count as a dual-threat, or a running QB? What about Turner Gill?

I know you're not asking me, but I didn't consider Frazier a dual-threat. He was smart and awesome at running. They ran it so dang good that the receivers were usually open by 5-15 yards on playaction and if I remember correctly he had 51% accuracy. He basically just had to throw it to the correct third of the field. (I'm not saying he didn't have awesome throwing plays, like the whole last drive against FSU. Just that usually he didn't need to be good at passing and a lot of times he wasn't).

  7. I think the QB needs to be able to pass decently. Like someone pointed out in a different thread, Martinez isn't behind one of the best offensive lines in history. 8. AGAINST UCF!

Kstate only had 83 total rushing yards against freaking UCF and we are worried?!?!?! WTF?????

Comparing stats this way has never made sense. We've had bad running backs go for over 100 yards against us. That puts us back where we started. (I'm sure someone will probably chime in about our defense experimenting). I still think Nebraska will win by a lot, and I won't be surprised if he's held under 100 yards, but Thomas's performance against UCF can be considered as much of a fluke as Nebraska's against SDS.

  9. I wonder if the NU/OU series could turn into a long term series like what A&M and Arkansas recently agreed upon? A&M and Arkansas renewed their long lost rivalry after having not played each other from 1992-2008 when Arkansas left for the SEC. They recently signed a long term contract that guarantees 10 consecutive meetings starting in 2009 with an option to continue playing an additional 20 consecutive years after the original 10 year contract is up. The Arkansas/A&M game is played at Cowboys stadium.

I hope so. Oklahoma was almost the only reason any of us felt even a little bad about leaving the Big 12.

Seconded. I want a permanent series.

  10. I guess I'm not even sure myself, even though I'm posting this. Since we did win the titles in the 90s, I'm not all angsty wishing we'd finally win one, so I can relax and enjoy this. If we hadn't, maybe I wouldn't feel the same way. I would have loved it if we had never gone through the recent losing seasons, but there's something to be said for having a "comeback." From the Colorado win in 2008 to the Arizona game was my favorite period so far. It also helps that I'm an adult now. I was only 11 in 1993. (But I do remember crying myself to sleep when we missed the FG against Florida State the year before).

Anyway, I'm sure you've all watched this 100 times but I'm going to link it anyway because I think it ranks up there as one of the best Nebraska plays, including ones that happened in championship seasons. I can't watch it enough. (Okay fine, two plays).

  11. Considering how many coaches are having heart attacks these days, I'm guessing it's hard, heh.

    one? :dunno

For some reason I thought Urban Meyer had had a heart attack when he retired for a week last year. (I actually didn't pay much attention to it when it happened). But he only had "frequent chest pains (later discovered to be caused by esophageal spasms) and occasional severe headaches due to an arachnoid cyst for years, and that they were related to stress"

  12. if Virginia Tech counts as a ranked team, then so will Kansas State. We have at least 4 teams dropping out of the polls from 19-25 this week. I think Kansas State will be ranked #25. (They're #29 right now). Unfortunately Missouri plays Oklahoma the week before they play Nebraska. There is also Oklahoma State. They will definitely be ranked if they beat Texas Tech.
