  1. I see what you're trying to say here, but please don't attempt parallels between Pelini and Dr. Tom. It's a tad disrespectful. Not meant to be disrespectful in any way. Since many fans compare Pelini's attitude to T.O's, I believe it is fair to point out the similarities in other aspects as well. I don't recall hearing any players in Callahan's days being as loyal to him... and certainly not to the level that these coaches have seen. This loyalty thing is a bit overblown. What do you want them to say, he is an asshat and I hate him? That person controls their playing time and thir scholarship. Fair point. Although shoot, check twitter and see some of Bo's former players still fighting for him. Marlowe, Meredith, Prince, Suh, Rex.... It's impressive to see though sad under the circumstances.

  3. You would want to keep only those three coaches? Seems like removing all but three would cause more problems than solutions at this point. Terry Joseph seems to be a worthwhile keep. Kaz has helped mold an extremely young defensive line. Els has had one year with freshman and sophomore linebackers mainly. I don't want to be a kool-aid drinker with everyone/everything but there is a lot of upside to giving these coaches a little more time to mold the young team.
  4. Why would it offend me, and why would I need to rethink my status as a fan? I am a "team" fan first, and a fan of individuals (players, coaches) second. In what way do Bo's antics help the "team"? Just give me one way. The point you were trying to make was not very well thought out. I guess that should be expected. I also don't want to see Bo go, because I think swapping coaches every 6 years is bad for the program. I'm not sure Bo gave anyone a choice after today. For one, listen to the players. They all seem to rave about Pelini and love that passion. They're more important to the program than either you or I. And to Karawithasmile, I was simply appreciating Skersfan for weighing in on the topic and being upfront and honest with his perspective. Eh, not impressed. For one, this is not unique to Bo. You see this in every sport at every level with most teams. I remember the Chargers players coming out in support of Norv Turner when he was about to be fired, saying he is such a great man, blah, blah, cry me a river. Second, Bo has kind of brainwashed the players and the staff into thinking that everyone is out to get them. You saw this with Cory McKeown crying like a baby when the fans booed the team in 2007. Both NFL-first coaches who didn't tackle in practice with ashoddy defense and mentally weak players who whine and cry about the mean fans and wax poetic about much they love their coach. Enough. You're comparing the NFL to college with this and it simply does not fit. There are probably some outliers on the team but appears to be few and far between. The second point is correct, Bo has established an "us against the world" attitude. I'm fine with that. With some of the stuff that comes across twitter, other message boards, etc. that bashes these guys, I would rather have that "us against the world" approach than feel as though i'm on my own. Pelini could be a little more receptive to the media/fans but that is an interpersonal skill that he is still developing. Remember that these are college kids, many of whom are on their own for the first time in their lives. To many, Pelini is a father figure and it actually says a lot about the team that the players feel this way. That concept is actually parallel to Tom Osborne with a number of his players so it should not be overlooked.
  5. I think he's fed up with the question more than wanting to dare the administrators. He's been having to answer the same question since the UCLA game and, like the rest of us, he too has not gotten any answers as to his job status going forward. He's handled that as good as to be expected considering Michigan's AD came out this week and supported Hoke even when they seem to be getting worse. It's also only Hoke's 3rd year. We will see how supportive their AD is if things stay the same after 6 years. +1 I'm curious how many years Michigan would support a coach that couldn't beat "Ohio."

  8. I'm sorry you feel that way. The sad part is, some people actually read this and believe you when you say that. Until you have met the guy in person, please be careful of what you say. Sidenote: Pelini has young children and his kids and family have had to deal with the fanbase (the self-proclaimed, "Greatest Fans in College Football") this year, through all of this media garbage... Try explaining to a 3rd grader how you could lose your job and the entire state would know about it. And yes Bo can be an aggressive, toe-the-line type of person but it's that mentality that turns in championship teams and helps form boys to men. - And please, do not compare this to Osborne. Although we respected Osborne over time, his lack of aggression/vocally expressing his angry or disagreement frustrated the fans like crazy. Osborne was also shielded from that because he had some assistant coaches and players who had no problem laying into a ref vocally. Life is different for a highly paid public figure. Try explaining to the average middle class how you get fired and receive a $7.7 million paycheck on your way out the door. I won't disagree with you on that. My point was that fans can disagree with his attitude or actions but need to also realize that the guy is a father of young kids and those kids have had to hear about this controversy all season long. Disagreeing with a coach is fine but the fans just need to keep things in perspective.
  9. I agree with your post though I don't think Bo lost any "die hard" fans today. The true fans wanted Bo Pelini to return after Bill Callahan because Bo brought his 'fire' and aggressive attitude during his year here in 2003. Those fans should not be swayed simply because the media and Rod Gilmore (ABC commentator who seemed to dislike everything about Nebraska except for the fans) said that Bo was out of line. You do make some very valuable points though and please do continue to post your thoughts.

Your post have zero value, Mr. Make a new account to defend pelini I'm sorry to feel the need to attack me. That's fine man, do your thing. I appreciate your lack of contribution in agreeing or disagreeing with my post. Instead of bashing the man, I simply pointed out what I thought would be obvious to true fans. Apparently... it wasn't as obvious to you as I thought.
  11. Could not agree more bones. I think many of us would feel the same way if our job was in limbo for months and broadcast across the country. Let the guy be himself, he's grown a lot since the first day he was here and though his hat deal today wasn't the brightest move, he walked away from it and simply called the ref a joke the rest of the game. Ferentz had just as much cursing going on today and Bo did but Bo gets the attention because Bo is put on the hotseat by fans and media stuck in the 90s. Nope, sorry. Bo went above and beyond today. No possible way to say he didn't. Bo went above and beyond? What should Bo have done? Sat on the sideline and simply tell the side ref, "bad call but you guys will get the next one right, you guys"? Though I don't think he meant to get as close as it seemed with the hat, I have to think that he did not intend for the hat to break and the straps to come so close. Personally, I like a coach who will fight for his players and display emotion. Did it cost us three points? Sure. Did it cost us the game? Not even a little bit. I'm sorry you want the best of both worlds. I like the fire also. You know there is a middle ground, right? Bo doesn't seem to have one. I agree about the hat breaking making it look worse than what it was. When you are on the hot seat and under a microscope, why make it so easy? That's just not very smart. I would like our coach to be at least a little smarter than that. He showed fire and passion. If that offended you, maybe you should take a look in the mirror. It wasn't a smart move, agreed. However if you're going to have that be your tipping point, you may want to re-think your status as a fan. Why should Bo have a middle ground? To appease you? To appease the "fans"? Bo Pelini has earned the respect, love and affection of his team. He has displayed tough love and does not like excuses. Nebraska would be dumb to let Bo Pelini go. The 90s are over.
  12. The "he has kids" wasn't a defense of his job, it was an idea that maybe you should consider the fact that his kids have been hearing about how their dad will lose his job at the end of the season for months now from other "fans". How he's a "lunatic" and out of control, etc. College football is business, no arguing that. But realize that what you write and say does have a cumulative effect and it goes farther than simply Bo Pelini. You're right, Pelini and the staff does make quite a bit of money. Unfortunately however, your job performance is not broadcast across the state unlike theirs. It comes with the territory. We'd all love to have the money problem for sure. Sad part is, everyone thinks that UNL could find better. Maybe they can, but... the grass isn't always greener.

  15. 2/3 have won NC, you figure out who's the two Mike Leach, the Rutgers basketball coach, Lane Kiffin, Jim Harbaugh. It's easy to throw out names and be selective of the names you choose.
