The odds based on other players who have had the same issues suggest there is a very strong chance it will be fixed

Give me examples please. Haarberg’s sidearm motion of dropping the elbow and staying under the ball won’t work.

I mean the solution is to bring in an actual QB and move Haarberg to TE or something, but you know...

For those wondering about that James Williams guy... https://omaha.com/sports/huskers/football/scout-team-walk-on-james-williams-proves-sack-man-nickname-in-nebraska-debut/article_66fa3d33-8cbf-531d-a0d6-ad96ff35e89b.html

I agree with you on moving Haarberg to TE in the long term, which was the plan considering he was basically the 3rd string QB at the end of fall camp. My comment was for the remainder of this year.

Well that’s not happening this year. HH will need an off-season to fix that arm angle he is throwing at. I can only imagine he will only improve.

That arm angle isn’t getting fixed. He will not be the long-term answer at QB.

I think Rhule and the coaches he's brought with him seem like they really know what they're doing. They're not just good with X's & O's, they seem to have figured out how to motivate this team in just one offseason. We aren't out there playing scared like we have for so many years.

We've rotated so many guys in on defense that it's crazy. I love how fast & fiery we are on that side of the ball.

Feels so good to have a winning record after the 7th game.

That first play by Haarberg...big yikes. I feel like he threw that pick the way he did because of how he leans out of his throws to side arm it. Fidone is slanting to his left and he leans out of it and backwards to his right and the ball is terribly short. Really bad stuff.

It’s hard for coaches to look good at the “X’s and O’s” when they don’t have talent to execute them.

Sims’ play was without a doubt the worst QB play I’ve seen from Nebraska. I want us to stick with HH, but I’m gladly go to Chubba or anyone before Sims.

The problem with Chubba is that NU needs to get a good chunk of their rushing yardage from the QB.  I don’t think Chubba offers that type of ability.

  6. IMO, the biggest issue with Haarberg in the passing game is that 1) because of his poor throwing motion when his passes miss, they usually sail high and wide, and 2) because Haarberg has little experience/inability to read defenses effectlvely, he’s making the initial read and throw down the middle.

This is not a good combination because high, sailing passes down the middle of the field can go right to defenders or get tipped but the intended receiver, which can also lead to INT’s. I’m not sure what the solution to this problem is, but it’s probably something we will just have to try to survive the best we can this year.

Really need to get going in the takeaway department.

That’s really the only negative with the D so far.  But, maybe White doesn’t want his defenders to take a lot of chances to create turnovers.  Maybe, he just wants to keep teams in front of the defenders, and force them to go the length of the field.

I’m seeing “personnel “issues and not so much coaching issues.   This should improve next year with more experience and hopefully key portal additions.

Unfortunately, NU could “improve” but not show it in their record, because they won’t be playing 6 games against the current Big Ten West.

Personally I'd start HH and see if he has the same problems next week (with TO) as this week, before I think about putting Sims in again.

This is where I am at right now. Yes, HH had some potential INT’s drop against Illinois, but this was his first game with more than one turnover.  The dropped snaps are also killer though, as they lead to a lost play, and are drive-killers. He has to play better, but I don’t think he can be benched after being named the starter by Rhule this week. Rhule was going to be loyal with Sims until Sims was injured, it’s not surprising that Rhule would be loyal with Haarberg, too.

Winning gritty is better than losing pretty...I can not help but think of all the games we were losing by a score- we are winning those on occasion now...feels so much better than losing.

For years, we heard Frost say “we just need to learn how to win,” and for the last 2 weeks, we have seen NU do it. I like his new alternative better.

The two games he started were the first two games-and road games-of the year. So much hype around the Colorado game too. I don’t know much about JS’s eligibility- could this be a red shirt year?

Sims could use this as a redshirt, and transfer as a grad transfer and still have 2 years to play at his next school.

crazy we didn't throw some deep balls to him earlier in the season. he's clearly the best deep threat we have.

Or NU was able to design a play to get him open, and Satt called a perfect play at a perfect time.  Nobody knows if Coleman wasn't running deep routes before just because he wasn't thrown any.

The only thing really learned was that there are far too many people that foolishly think NU wouldn't have the same record if SIms never got hurt.  They only played one Michigan and the 4 wins weren't against PSU, OSU Bama and Oregon.  Four wins against crap teams that the defense has won for the program.

Yes, this is quite possible, but we don't know for a fact.

-Special teams are not where they need to be yet but they are getting a little more special every game. The one thing that is concerning for me is we have no return game whatsoever.

Special teams were up and down, even today.  Buscini had a great punt to flip the field in the 3rd quarter, and pinned NW at their 12 yard line on their last 2 drives.

Alvano drilled his FG, which was great to see.

Tommi Hill did have a very good kickoff return to the 36 yard line after Northwestern's first FG.  That helped start NU in good field position, which led to a tying FG.

I also learned we have someone named James Williams on our team.

Gary Sharp on 1620 just had an interesting story about Williams on Big Red Overreaction.  Sharp said Williams was on the scout team all the way up until this week.  NU was bringing out a 5 d-linemen package for this week's game to get a better pass rush, and Knighton recommended they use Williams in that package. Williams was up for the challenge, and he looked good as a natural pass rusher.

Many many teams have done this, especially with a young QB.  Hell Urban was a master at it.  Let the youngster see stuff from the sideline and let the moment slow down a second.  Key is communication and let HH and Sims(or whomever takes the series) that it is one series no matter the outcome of said drive.  Yes it can open Pandora's box if QB 2 leads a successful drive and then QB 1 comes back and struggles.  But at this point and with this team, any kind of spark/different look/scheme is welcomed when an offense is struggling mightily.

I don't necessarily disagree with you.  I don't like how Haarberg passes.  It's just not an easy answer.  We don't know how many reps Sims is getting with the #1 offense, but I do agree with you  in that he should start to get more reps in case he's needed.

Who the hell is #90?  Made a nice play and just missed a sack in the 1st qrt then he gets a sack in the 4th

James Williams.  I have never heard of the guy either, but it's great how White's scheme allows a plug and play system at certain positions.  It's also great to see so many young defensive players.

Our offensive playcalling was suspect at best all game long. The last third and four draw up the middle was a s*** call and playing not to lose—against a better team that lack of intestinal fortitude by our OC could swing momentum. Where are the Tight Ends—we only went to them a couple of times, and while they were getting manhandled more than a coed in a hotel room after prom, we should have included them a lot more to loosen up the NW defense.

Someone brought up Wildcat and Sims on the sideline, and that’s a valid point…if you make the assumption that Bubba is a valid QB backup. From what we’ve seen, he isn’t, so why risk Sims on Wildcat?

Our defensive playcalling will be the reason we go bowling, and our DC deserves a phat contract boost.

That's flat out wrong.  Fidone is the only receiver which Haarberg looks for.  Fidone was targeted at least a half dozen times today, on only 17 pass attempts.

So HH wasn't that QB today with his play.  Two picks on him and the drops.  A series off today could have been benefitial for a young QB

There has been a lot of talk from the Nebraska media wondering if Rhule were to bench HH, that it would kill HH's confidence, and Rhule would have a tough time going back to HH if Sims were to struggle.

I don't know what the answer is.  NU is in a terrible QB situation, but NU keeps winning despite of it.  Iowa lost with their backup QB today, after only scoring 10 points.
