  1. I threw my ring (not wedding, just personal) at my faince's old T.V. during the Iowa St. game in 2010....wasn't cool...not cool at all.

    I've been a tard sometimes.........

I get waaaay to drunk during games........

Who I am kidding, f#*k it. I'm still going to get drunk by half-time...every time.

In college, we had a party to watch the NU vs. Arizona State game in 1996 (it started at 9 PM Nebraska time). During that debacle, I threw my plastic beer mug across the room at the TV. I got quite a few looks at that. After the loss, I just sat on the side walk, like the world had ended.

  2. I am another person who used to get furious and yell and scream during NU losses. I think it's a combination that I have gotten older and maybe I have "gotten used" to NU losing more often, in that I now just kinda sit there in silence. If anything, I will just laugh to myself like "wow, that just happened?".

During the Big 10 title game last year, I couldn't even get mad. It was just like "wow, this is happening again". I didn't watch a single play in the 2nd half. Our block was having a Christmas Party, so I went and enjoyed myself at that.

I don't think that this makes me "less of a fan", it's just that I have grown more mature and have bigger priorities (wife and children) in life.

This is only OK if it is your decision. There is nothing worse than being told by the wife, "Nebraska isn't going to win, so change the channel to this, or come with me to the store, or let's go visit so and so."

My wife generally knows to schedule things around Husker games in the fall. The only thing that might come up are soccer games for my son, if the game is during the day. She just lets me watch the game by myself in our main TV room, and she won't bother me.

  3. Games like UCLA, tOSU, and CCG from last year drive me to drink, ALOT. But, it helps when my friends do the same and we all get pissed off together.

Funny thing is...others take it differently....I drink much less after a loss...I might have 1 to 2 more drinks and I'm done. When NEB wins a big game though, I get drunk as sh#t! I keep on celebrating. I soak it all in and so does my liver.

Man, in the comebacks against Ohio State and Wisconsin the last 2 years, I was drinking a lot after those games. I was so excited and pumped, I didn't want to stop drinking and having fun.

  5. I love "old fashioned radio headphones" guy!!!!! Especially if he has binoculars around his neck to better view the action. The "binoculars" are even better if they are the fake ones filled with booze.

    NUance?

    Love that guy.

Man, old fashion radio headphones guy is both the best and the worst!

We get it, you want to hear the game...a few seconds behind the play happening in front of you. HAHA

Back in the day, over the air broadcasts were generally pretty close to being live. But, the FCC cracked down a few years ago, so everything is on a 7-second delay. That would be the tough thing with watching the game at a tailgate right next to the stadium. You would hear the reaction of the crowd, before the play is shown on TV.

  6. the guy who keeps getting stats, facts, and figures just slightly wrong throughout conversations, forcing me to decide to be either A) the guy who knows everything or B) the guy who keeps his mouth shut.

I hate the guy who just can't get the names of past/current Huskers right. There is Grant Winstrom, Jason Peters, Matt Davidson, are three off the top of my head.

  7. Call me crazy, but I don't get the appeal of wearing a jersey. I always wear Husker gear on gamedays, but I haven't worn a jersey since I was a little kid.

This. I don't tell grown men what they can and can't do, but as a 24 year old, it's either going to be a Husker t-shirt or a Husker hoodie with a red baseball cap for me.

  9. I just don't like how little appreciation that UNL gives the students. I thought it was different with the new arena, but the new seating is barely anymore than the old from what it seems.

Surely, you don't have the audacity to think the NU teams are for the students? If I had my way, the students would get first pick of their seats, mid court right behind the scorer's table for basketball. And, they would also have first pick between the 30 yard lines in the east stadium. And for any other sport, they also get first choice. It is, after all, their University, right? Their representative teams, right?

And your athletic department wouldn't have any cash, and all of the non-revenue sports would be eliminated.

True! I was being a little sarcastic about what college sports have turned into over the past 50-60 years!

Ahhh, I got ya now. It is unfortunate that big-time college sports have turned into big business.

  11. Rock, I understand where you are coming from. But, the way that Memorial Stadium has been constructed and added on over the years, I think a balcony on top of the South End Zone would be a bad idea. Not only would they be super far from the action, but they would be higher than the current West balcony. The reason the new addition on the East stadium "works" is that the seats are on the sideline, so you even though the seats are super high up, they don't feel as far away from the action. I have sat in the upper rows in both the South and North end zones, and frankly they weren't very good places to watch the game. I couldn't imagine being in a balcony, even further up and away from the action. Plus, a balcony would create obstructed view rows in the South end zone. I have sat under the balcony in the East stadium, and it sucked because the balcony got in our sightlines were obstructed by the balcony.

A row of skyboxes wouldn't be a terrible idea because the people in the skyboxes are there more for the "party" than the game, and there isn't anything wrong with that.

  12. This is what I mean when I say another deck would be really far from the field. Look out how far out the endzone seats reach from this angle. You could be about 3/4's of football field away from the game if another deck was added.

Thanks, craze. That pic shows how far the end zone stadiums go from the field. Any more seats in the end zone is impractical.

  13. Yikes, I hate to say it but I agree with Jason Peter on something.

I think it makes more sense for the players to choose their captains.

With the need for young players to step up this year, I can see why the coaches are naming the more experienced guys as Captains and Asst. Captains. These are the guys that the young guys can learn from in summer conditioning and practice, and these are the guys the coaches can depend on to get their message across.

  14. "Pelini and Frost don't see eye to eye" is something I've read at least a dozen times. But no one is ever able to expand on that statement.

    Now we know why.

It probably goes back to when Watson and Gilmore left NU, and Frost was rumored to be going for a spot on the NU staff. Apparently, Frost wanted to come over as the OC, while Pelini already had his guy in Beck. I think it turned out well for both parties. I have zero complaints with Beck as OC, and Frost is now the OC at Oregon.

  15. "This is the best I've felt since my freshmen year."

"This could be one of the best offensive lines in Nebraska history."

That is music to my ears.

Music to my ears, too. But "one of the best offensive lines in Nebraska history" is saying a bit too much, I think. We've had some truly legendary offensive lines. These guys have a long way to go to get to that level.

I am not saying you are ripping Martinez here, but the I am sure TMart haters will be quick to say "He needs to be educated on the great lines in the history of NU."

  16. Some interesting thoughts on assistant captains for each position group. The staff wants one guy for each position group to talk to during the games. Sounds like things got pretty hectic during the Big 10 Championship game.

    • QBs: Tommy Armstrong
    • RBs: Ameer Abdullah
    • WRs: Kenny Bell
    • OL: Jeremiah Sirles
    • DL: Jason Ankrah
    • LBs: Trevor Roach
    • CBs: Josh Mitchell
    • S: Corey Cooper
    • RB Imani Cross helps with incoming recruiting class

  17. Unfortunately, the QB position is more about wins and losses, rather than stats. When people look at RB's and WR's, they just think about all the yards and TD's they score.

Martinez has been counted on as the "big play" guy for his entire career. He hasn't had the home run threat at RB (think LP, Ahman Green, etc.) Burkhead was a great back, but he typically wasn't a guy who could break one at any moment. TMart was the guy who could break the 70-80 yard run.

Another thing to think about is the OC's who has worked with him. Watson didn't know what to do with Taylor. He was trying to coming up with a QB run game, while maintaining WCO passing principles. Beck was a first year OC when TMart was a sophomore. Last year, we saw some amazing things from TMart and Beck. I look forward to see what the O will be like this year.
