  1. You have some good points and for the most part I agree with you, but being from a Husker fan from Nebraska I feel that he isn't helping our image none. That's just me though; it seems that most people don't feel the way I do. But why would Raiola and Vanden Bosch be more of a reflection than Suh?

    Why wouldn't they be?

Cuz I hear more about Suh than I hear about either one of them.

If you let the press dictate to you how you feel about your team then you're going to be one sad fan.

  2. It's not that hard to find positives to post about. You just have to want to do it. We have guys like Lavonte David and Rex Burkhead on the team. Walk-ons earning starting roles, up-and-coming coaches, more wins than losses, a great stadium, fun and interesting fellow fans, all kinds of stuff.

I will never understand the people who never praise the team they love. I wonder if they treat their girlfriend or wife the same way they treat the team.

My point is that it is hard to find program-level positives... about the team as a whole. \finding individuals to post positively about is pretty easy and this I do with regularity. It is overall team assessment and the look to the immediate future that is tough to do.

I must have missed that post.

Positives about the whole program are bowl game in each of Bo's years here, winning bowl record under Bo, at least nine wins every year under Bo, academic all-americans under Bo continue to keep pace with other coaches, last year's recruiting class with Ameer Abdlullah and Jamal Turner, the stadium and fans are program level things.

See? It's not hard to find positives. It's just really easy to bitch about the few negatives and let them take over your impression of the team.

  4. To find America’s 10 safest cities, we looked at metropolises with populations above 250,000. We ranked them by violent crime rates—the number of violent crimes (murder, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault) per 100,000 residents in 2010, as reported by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

We also ranked each city on the traffic-fatality rate per 100,000 residents based on 2009 data, the most recent available, from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. We then averaged the ranking for each city to arrive at final scores. In the event of ties, the city with the lower crime rate got the higher ranking.

Here are America's five safest cities:

    #5 Lincoln, NE

    Car fatality rank: 1

    Violent crime rank: 16

    f_lincolnneb_v2.jpg

Lincoln, NE is NO. 5 on the safest cities list.

Plano Texas is the safest city in America. Someone should interview Rex Burkhead and ask him what it's like moving from a safe city like Plano to a crime-ridden city like Lincoln.

  6. skersfan's posts in this thread:

I do not think that will be heard anytime soon. We are not moving forward, just seem to be running around in circles. Hope I am wrong, but most on here have been predicting NC every year since Frank took over. I have not seen one in that time nor did I predict one. I am beginning to think I will never hear those words again.

    Lyle Bremser!!!!!

And then we have the sunshine pumpers that every year we will win all our games, win the conference, win the big 10 and that we have the greatest coaches, the best recruiters and the best recruits, and yet we never win a CCG, very seldom beat a top 15 team, well lets see, 13 years, at one time compared to Duke for our wins against top teams.

Sorry reality speaks, you need to learn to listen.

Well if it takes 23 years it most likely will not be in my life time.

Reality is I get sick of all the we are going to win, we are improving, we are this and that.

I know last year we beat some teams, but where did those beaten teams actually end up. Actually not long ago Nebraska and Duke were the only two teams not to have beaten a top 15 BCS team I think the stat was. I will wait until after the season to see who we beat. My guess is that the Big will flop in its bowls. I pretty much see all facing SEC teams getting beat.

You get tired of hearing what we think and it is stated every once in awhile. I hear it every single day over and over and over and over with hardly any evidence to support it. Other than blind hope. That is fine, and I am glad you can see those things.

I support this team, actually spend a lot of money on this team, and have for more years than most of you have been alive. I will continue to do so over the protests of my wife.

I think we have been promised NC teams every year since Tom left, never really in that hunt, unless you count 2001. I do not.

This year we were winning the Big no problem, Going to a BCS, Bo knows the Big. On and on and On. Fine you can swallow it every year, every day I could care less. I do not buy it anymore.

I think we are a 2nd teir program and will remain there. I see nothing but a training ground for young coaches. I do not see the drive to make this a top program any more. We are more worried about spending money than winning it seems to me. Our coach is considered out of control in most areas other than Nebraska. He has fallen so far behind Michigan and Ohio State in recruiting the past month it is sickening. We will most likely lose our top recruit to Notre Dame this weekend.

Yea I see that BCS game next year, but I see Michigan and Ohio State at the BCS game Not Nebraska, I see us at a good bowl, but not one of the bowls. I

I have never predicted a NC game. I think it is more luck than it is anything else. But I do not see us moving into that position to have the luck.

I would like to see a honest straight forward program, honest with the fans, wanting the fans to be involved and to have some sort of an idea of what is going on. Not disdain like we see now. Bo's actions towards the fan base is not much better than what we had before him.

I am not happy about recruiting, the rash of drinking citations and the secracy that we have year around, the actions in front of the camera, but in honesty he has improved this year. I am tired of being training U for undeveloped coaches, that happen to have the exact same mind set as Bo. New thoughts and ideas are not be taken it appears.

We have problems, it is headed by our head coach. He needs to hire someone that can run the defense and spend some time learning to be a real head coach, instead of a micro manager. We hire from with in, Bo will be gone in two years. I do not want that. I think he can be a good coach, but he has to start trying to be the head coach and not do everything. He is not Tom Osborne, it is obvious he can not do everything.

For those that deny the NC posts go back and read some posts leading to the start of the season. I know it is always hopeful at that time of the season. That is good.

We keep saying we are young. I agree. But we are talking about starting over with a unexperienced DC, when teams like Bama are spending 1.3 million on their DC, with what is considered one of the best defensive minded head coaches in the sport. Bama spends more on assistant coaches than anyone else. They went through a down period, maybe even worse than ours, but they want to win. They spend the money needed to bring in the best. Nebraska seems to look for the cheap way to do it. It started with Bo. Our own AD said it was too much and I think at the time he was one of the lowest paid in the top level of college football.

We took a good coach, paid less for him. Put him in a no win situation it seems. In over his head, with a never say die attitude. It seems to me Bo is trying to do everything, not getting the best of help to do the job. This could be his idea or he is working within the guide lines (financial) of the University. I am beginning to think it is the latter. Bo needs help. The problem is, is he willing to accept it or is he forced into doing it on a shoe string budget.

We have recruiting problems, and now with Meyer it is only going to get worse. Meyer will lock down Ohio, is already taking top recruits away from other programs very late in the year. What is going to happen when he has the whole year to recruit. Saben states over and over that recruiting is job one at Bama, nothing is more important, not even wins and losses, to get the program where it needs to be. He has been very successful in his tenure at Bama and LSU.

We talk development of the new players. Who develops the new coaches, that are in their first gig so to speak. And we keep getting new untrained people to take the job. I still feel if we do not hire from outside, a quality DC, Bo will be gone in two years and we will start this nightmare over again. We have a good enough coach, if he takes on help that helps him, rather than him helping the new guy learn. He is training a OC and most likely a new DC. He is not doing his job, because of this I think.

Yes there is improvement over BC, no question, but are we a NC calibur team. Not even close. After this month I do not feel we will be CC team. Michigan has yarded us so badly, and by losing to them so bad, we have hurt our recruiting in the B1G. With Meyer stepping in, it will be much harder than it is this year. Zook, Stoops could help with that.

I do not feel I am negative. I feel I am looking at the situation as it is, not how I want it to be. We all want to win the NC. I honestly do not believe we are anywhere near that. We lose our 3 top defensive players this year. Bring in a new trainee DC, with Bo to help continously and have a OC in his second year on the job, these are not recipies for success.

We are in a much more balanced conference now. Northwestern was to be our gimme. Next year will be tougher. I do not count the win over Michigan State as a real landmark. They had played 3 major games in three weeks, traveled to Nebraska and taking on a team they had not faced in awhile.(one of our excuses) I think they were toast before they lined up. Ohio State, if Braxton had not went down, would have been a loss. We may be on level with Penn State, but their situation was tough that weekend. I think we got two victories this year that were at least questionable.

We seem to always lose a game we should not. We got beat badly in two. This losing badly is not a good sign either. A lot of confidence was gained by those teams. Like when we would destroy a top team. It boils down to coaching. Bo can do it if Bo just does his job and not everyone else's. I hope he learns to take the help that is out there. He is a stubborn person, and I think that is good in some isntances and not so good in others.

It is not recruiting it is luck to win the NC. Very seldom does a team go through a year and win the NC that luck did not play a major part in it. But wins and losses come from successful recruiting in these days. It is used within itself. Meaning a top kid goes to say Arkansas, a real difference making QB, it is much easier to recruit that top lineman or running back in that we are building a team to win championships. That is what Saben preaches. I have been listening to him a lot over the last two years. In some things he reminds me so much of Bo. Almost exact in peronality, total disdain for the media. The difference is Saben delegates and accepts new ideas, schemes, attacks and has what he feels is the best defensive mind in the game as his DC. He endorses growth and different ideas. Bo has the ability to be on a level with Saben I truly believe. He just needs the time to develop his way. I think he is running a million miles an hour trying to do way more than he should be.

You can not tell me that Bo can not motivate a team to win. I do not believe that. But I do believe if he does not have the time to work with the kids, lessor teams will not get the motivation/effort needed. We have seen that every year. I think it is a time situation. With a new DC in training he will have even less next year. I would imagine Carl was a lot of trusted help. Will Bo have the same trust in the new replacement.

Bottom line I want Nebraska to win. I want Bo to become the coach he can be. I think he needs time and help. But without good help this coming year, he will not get the time that is needed.

I am not down in the slightest. I still send the checks every year. Still let the university use my land. Still support them in everything we do. I just do not see this bright light that some see.

I could care less about NC. I just want a team that is prepared every game, be competitive and play the Nebraska way. I truly think Bo can get this done. It takes time, but he needs better help than he has. We can not continue being a training program. This University has the money to be a top paying job and the ability to pay for those that earn those salaries. Throwing money at a problem does not always solve the problem I know, but there is just too much learning going on in our coaching staff. Qualified is a necessity in every business. Now if this staff had been together for 7-8 years and had grown as a unit under an experienced head coach, promoting from within is fine I would think. (see Tom Osborne) We have coaches that are not qualified to be in the jobs they have. That includes Bo. He needs an anchor, someone to bounce things off of that has been there. Someone he can trust to do the job, not have to help him do the job.

He needs to be a year round recruiter, every single day. I do not think he has time to do that. I know we are in the hunt for a top player, but it is only one. Too be competitive with the top programs we need to be in the hunt for all of them it seems to me.

I saw us as moving forward until last year at the Holiday Bowl. I see this year as a huge step back. Blow out losses to teams that are going to only get better and better. I know we are young, but so are the other teams. Most have the advantage of an experienced staff. Too much for a beginning head coach to handle. Losing Carl no matter how good he was is going to affect Bo.

Big Red Power Wagon, I apologize for my smart remark, it was uncalled for.

Knapplc, you know how much I love this program, this University and Tom. I just get tired of the Debbie Downer tag. I get tired of the continous Sun Shine that really is not there, then when we stumble the whole place goes nuts at how bad this coach or this player is.

We have problems, most teams do. Sweeping them under the rug very seldom helps.

For this program to get where all of want to be takes a lot more than just wanting. It takes great kids, with great character, Coaches that know their jobs forwards and backwards, A head coach that has the time to guide the team, the staff and the recruiting effort.

    Really! Really!

Iowa State, Texas, Northwestern ring any bells with you. How about Wisconsin, Michigan and that pesky Washington team we did not want to play.

Nearly every major program has renovation going on or have just finished. That is a requirement. I would guess part of the Big ten deal.

I do not think we are leaders in facilities any longer. We are good, but not top of the line. Texas, Oregon and a few others are leading that war.

I think Bo squeaks into the top 15 in pay, overpaid I might add, and the assitants are distant runs at best. We put money in things we are guaranteed to get money back out of, but unfortunately bigger stadiums do not win games. WE need to put our money where it matters. We are not paying the going rate in coaching it seems. LSU pays their DC and OC 700k a year. Kirby Smart makes 1.3 million according to bama fans. His boss again is supposed to be the best defensive mind in the country and he makes over 5 million a year. My guess our whole staff makes just over half of what Saben is paid, and Miles after this year. I may be wrong, but I bet I am close.

Close is only good in hand grenades and horse shoes, we are playing with neither. WE LOST THE GAMES! Just like we lost to the teams mentioned above.

If you truly believe we could play with the top teams in the country you are on crack. Bottom of the top ten possibly, but Oregon, Okie Lite, KState, Stanford. Bama, LSU would run us out of the stadium I think. We could not hang with Wisconsin, nor Michigan. Some on here claim we would beat anyone but Bama and LSU. What evidence is there of that any more than us losing to them.

You see it through red colored glasses, I see it as others around the country see it.

I hope you are right, I always have. But my predictions of where we are, have been a lot closer than the ones predicting NC CCG and winning them all. I think I predicted 9-3 for this year, no conference championship. We are not as bad as I think sometims and we are not as good as some think. We are an above average team with a lot of problems, just like the majority of teams in the country. No problem with that. My problem is how do we fix it and what steps are we taking to fix it.

Bottom line Bo needs help, I had hoped that Coach Osborne would help him more and that Bo would have asked for it. I do not think either is happening enought to correct the problem.

I do not agree with that. I look at wins and losses by who they are and how we win.

I give Bo great credit for the Texas game. I thought we were truly on our way after that game, then Arizona and WOW!!!

But then you have the SDSU game, the Washington game, Northwerstern, Michigan, Wisconsin. Those tear the one point loss down very quickly. I think I would be even more upset if we had went on to win then see what has happened afterwards.

To me it is how the game is played, who we are playing, the level of desire to win and prepare for the game.

That is where I am disappointed in the record. It would be worse if we had won those two games with seeing what we are now.

I would hate to see you when you're down on the team! :o

  7. do any of the other big programs do it? I am an old fuddy duddy I guess, but it seems to infringe on one our freedoms. could be wrong, but could be portrayed that way by other coaching staffs. With Bo's media face and stopping communication he would easily be protrayed as a total hard as by other staffs.

Unfortunately my wife feels that way. She wants him gone, the sooner the better. Not going to the bowl game because of her total dislike for Bo.

Could be considered by incoming recruit as to harsh. I don't know. I have never used it, nor do I plan to. But we are not the hot spot of recruiting and are close to losing some recruits I hear. Doing anything negative to the mind set of a possible recruit does not make sense to me.

I guess we will know down the road in a couple of months what has affects on recruiting. Something better turn around it seems to me.

Just this past year Turner Gill, Chris Petersen from Boise St. and Steve Spurrier from...um.... some team out east, banned Twitter. That took about ten seconds to google. A bunch of basketball coaches ban their players from Twitter too. It's not rare. It's not censorship.

  8. Sometimes people pick teams because they think they're going ot win...not beacause they're being paid. Kind of like how sometimes running backs are able to score 38 touchdowns in a season becuase they're good, not because they're on an above average team.....its weird how the real world works out like that.

You're a little butt hurt about all the Ball-Burkhead discussion aren't you? I don't blame you but you gotta consider this is a Husker site.

Badgerfan has a point. I mean, Reggie Ball is a great representative of Wisconsin Badger Awesomeness.

  9.

This really has nothing to do with me by the way. I just keep seeing people on this board going with the "everybody does it" defense, which is BS. Not everybody does it, and if you do - you shouldn't.

The "everybody does it" defense is code for "I have done it/do it, and it's no big deal."

  10. I love all the posters that talk about how they drink but never drove drunk. Newsflash, yes you have you just did not think you were drunk.

This is a pretty safe accusation to make. No proof necessary just "yes you were."

    It is 100% safe

Just like it's 100% safe to say this theory is totally bogus. No proof necessary. :)
