  1. I'm not sure anyone here actually thinks we'll go unbeaten at this point. I certainly hope not. WI, though, will probably go unbeaten through the Big 10 and might just end up with a shot at the title game, depending on how other teams shake out with their seasons.

Wisconsin looks good, but going unbeaten is going to be tough in the B1G. They should definitely be the favorites to win the conference, but I am looking forward to the Huskers going into Wisconsin. It will be a good test, and despite the meltdown on HuskerBoard, Nebraska can win that game.

  2. Has anyone else noticed how quick the local papers (OWH, LJS)are to knock down the Huskers after last night. There was talk of Nebraska possibly not being a top 25 team? That is getting carried away with the criticism. I was surprised that they were so critical of the defense, and of the defensive outlook for the rest of the year. Every team has a bad game, the Defense will be fine, or am I the only guy that has been watching this Pelini coached Defense the last 3+ years. The offense still looked rough, but there was definitely improvement. It is humorous that Martinez gets all of the critique he does, yes he made some mistakes last night, but 219 passing yards, and 166 rushing yards? Those are elite numbers.

However, it is very clear that the favorite to win the BigTen resides in Madison, Wisconsin; not Lincoln, Nebraska.

  3. Quincy Enunwa is our best option at WR, hands down. He seems like he could be a bit of a budding star. Turner, and Bell definitely should see the field over Marlowe(never understand why he was a kick returner either), however I will still hold judgement on Kinnie. He was a solid option last year for us, but no doubt he needs to pick it up.

**Don't know how I got that reply in the middle of the last post**

  4. I've been a big Kinnie fan for a while now. I think he plays tough, plays with heart, and he genuinely cares about his performance on the field. (Something I haven't been convinced of with certain players over the years.)

And yet, I saw Enunwa, Turner, and Bell out on the field a fair amount last night and I thought those look like our three best wide receivers.

Kinnie is a liability out there at this point. If the kids are going to make plays, then they need to be on the field. I wouldn't mind seeing Kinnie sit for a game or two. And didn't somebody (skers, maybe?) say that Brandon sprained his thumb right before the Chattanooga game or something? He doesn't look right out there, whether its an injury or a mental block of some kind. Whatever it is, he needs to sit for a bit and get things straightened out. I still have faith in Brandon. I think he can make some plays for us at some point in this season. But right now it seems pretty clear to me that our most dangerous guys at the WR spot are named Jamal, Quincy, and Kenny. It's not Kinnie, and Marlowe should NEVER be in the slot while Jamal sits on the bench.

I also remember reading that Kinnie sprained his thumb. Why the heck is he out there if it is still affecting him? That's like having a kicker with a sprained toe on his kicking foot still being the starting kicker, or a QB with a sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder playing. It's plain stupid.

Get Marlowe out of there. He's been overtaken by at least 3 guys. But at least he catches the ball (*ahem* Kinnie).

If Turner isn't starting the next game then you have to wonder what game the coaches are watching.

I totally agree with your WR assessment. Our top 3 WR in no particular order: Quincy (big body, possession type guy), Jamal (shifty speedster), Kenny (speedster).

Get our weapons on the field and then get them the ball. I'm irked that we burned Green and Heards' redshirts last week and they didn't even get on the field, let alone touch the ball in that game.

  5. Say what you will about Bo in his weekly pressers, but the guy does very well in national interviews.

    Yeah he's a charmer...

What was wrong with the interview? I thought it was pretty darn good. Sure he's not real smooth, but he gave good info and sounded pleasant, what more do you want?

    I was just poking fun

although it does look like he wants to bite the head off of a greg sharpe on the bo pelini show

  6. Whatever might or might not be happening with the later part of Barney's career, my position on him is this: I want him to succeed. Desperately. Completely. I want a Cotton line to go out there and dominate, and for him to sign a ten year extension and produce another Pipeline every single year.

It wasn't very likely that was going to happen when he was hired. It's only slightly more likely now that he has some help along the line. I know a lot of people have gripes against Cotton and not without reason. And if he continues to blow it, Bo won't have much of a choice. Once you make an offensive transition like Bo did, you can't continue to pawn off failings on your assistants. Bo has his guys in his scheme. If things start to go wrong he better intervene quick, because it's the Bo Pelini show from here on.

This is a good point. I, too, want Barney to succeed and to exceed the Pipeline years if possible. We all want a fantastic O Line. It's not about Barney, it's about the results. I don't care whose name sits next to the "Offensive Line Coach" title as long as it's a prospering unit. If it fails, it's time to make a change no matter whose name it is we're changing.

The one time I spoke to Coach Gilmore I found him to be very open, engaging, pleasant - a lot more approachable than Bo, for example. I wanted Gilmore gone not because of Gilmore, but because our WRs couldn't catch the ball (or hold onto it as they ran down the field untouched).

Barney has been accomodated with a number of quality OL commits in the last three classes. If he can't get it done over the next 4 or so years then it may be time to move on. Having said that, I like the combination of Barney and Garrison, and am looking forward to a productive year from the OL. :bigredn:

  7. :facepalm::facepalm::facepalm:

yeah division 2 is a separate league with schools like Nebraska-Kearney and Missouri Western. nobody talks about the actual divison 2 though so people probably still understood what you were talking about in reference to the FCS or 1-AA.

It's just weird because I've been referring to the FCS as D2 for years here, and this is the first time I've been corrected. It's a learning moment for me. I'm a better person now. :D

And now seven of us do it at once....Nothing like pounding the point home, huh?

  8. 11:00? Dang. Got an appointment at that time.

Maybe if Rome gets under Pelini's skin and Bo punches him out I'll get to see the replay on SportsCenter.

Rome and Bo are BFFs. There's pretty much no chance of Bo getting upset at Rome. Rome just gushes when Bo is on his show. It's almost embarrassing.

I've noticed that too.... Rome makes HuskerNation blush everytime Bo is on....

  9. McKweon has definitely gave the World Herald some life. They seem to have a loaded staff, and seem to put out twice the stories/blogs that the Journal Star does. McKweon, Shatel, Chatlein (who most don't like, but I appreciate his honesty), and Nwaytaya(?). Hard line up to beat.

  10. Which Nebraska newspaper do you think covers the Huskers better.... Up until this year I preferred the Journal Star, but the World Herald has really done a wonderful job lately....So, what say you....

  11. My top 10:

    1. Irving Fryar

    2. Johnny Rodgers

    3. Nate Swift

    4. Mo Purify

    5. Abdul Muhammad

    6. Terrence Nunn

    7. Todd Peterson

    8. Matt Davison

    9. Niles Paul

    10. Guy Ingles

    10. Todd Brown

I'm giving Muhammad bonus points for his OB win over Miami. His career stats alone put him somewhere down around 15th or 20th.

I have always found Purify to be both very talented but also overrated.

  12. If I had to make a guess, I'd guess:

Heard - least likely to have an impact this year only because he sat out a year. Taking a year off could be detrimental.

Green - Played very well in a very tough high school division. Solid chops, and solid potential.

Abdullah - Again played well in a very tough high school division. Probably equal chance of impact with Green.

That's a really flimsy answer, but there's not much else to go on.

EDIT - forgot to mention that I think at least one of these guys will Redshirt this year. There's not much reason to have all three play when we have Rex, any two of these guys, and Curenski Gilleylen and Ty Kildow, both of whom performed OK in the Spring Game.

It would no doubt make some sense to redshirt one, but I don't think any of them will. With the lack of depth at the position I would think the coaches would want to find out which could help most, and a real game atmosphere would be the best way to make that call....

  13. Which of the three incoming freshmen backs (Green,Abdullah,Heard) are going to have the most significant impact for our football team this year? I think it is very possible that all three will see the the field plenty, and even more likely that atleast two of the three will have a noticable impact. My money is on Aaron Green having the largest impact (650-700 yards), and with Abdullah providing some season long assistance as well (400 yards or so).
