  1. I thought it was '09, as Colman gets credit for Dillard. Wasn't Dillard a senior in '09?

No chance on Colman though. He'd be LBs coach and that looks like Ross Els.

Good catch Zoogs, it was 2009. :thumbs

I just wonder if any of these potential LB coaches (especially Els) can hold Ekler's jock strap :nutz when it comes to coaching LB's and on the recruiting trail. His attitude and energy will be hard to replace. Hopefully he can rejoin us in the future.

  2. Big difference between recruiting in the S E C and here at Nebraska. Northeast is not exactly a hot bed of recruiting.

Nebraska holds their own in the recruiting world, had we not lost Tevin Mitchell, the Bryant kid, this might have been a top 10 class... Based on Average stars (which is how classes should be evaluated anyways) I think we are somewhere around 7th or 8th. I agree about the Northeast not being a hot bed for recruiting, but I have heard alot of people say that we will have a agressive interest in that part of the country. Seems overrated since we've always been a school that recruits nationally.

  3. He might actually be a decent recruiter, when you hvae had players recruited by major colleges such as Fisher you learn what kids want to hear and kids gravitate towards. Malzahn has become one of the best recruiters on Auburns staff.

I never considered Malzahn a bad hire for Arkansas at the time. The timing was questionable, and how it was done also.

  4. :cheers

Sounds like Richard Fisher might be coming in some capacity. Who knows if it is for the RB postition, or as a GA??

    Being reported on Unsportsmanlike Conduct.

If so, this is quite the underwhelming movement and new additions to the staff. Hopefully Bo is that much smarter than everyone else.

This is going to earn reminders of Nutt hiring Malzahn with Mustain in tow. The press will run with that story roughly five seconds after it's officially announced.

This is an odd development, and overall we have made very underwhelming (reported) hires. Having said that, just be cause these (reported) hires lack sizzle, doesn't mean that they can't coach. Heres to hoping we've hit some homeruns with the new hires :cheers:koolaid2::corndance

  5. Here's a question: given the state of our offense, what's the consensus on what an 'acceptable' level of experience is before you take a shot on a coordinator?

    :yeah

Here's an idea. Give Beck the OC job. Forget about looking for a co-OC. Move Ron Brown to WR. Move Cotton to TE. Hire a new OL and RB coach and call it good.

I like beck, but with the lack of offensive success, a fresh start on O might be needed....

  6. Does anybody think that if we can't find an experienced OC to come in, that we offer Frost OC? Even though he doesn't have alot of experience, he can't be much worse than Watson. He will get better as he gains experience.

I don't think he comes now even if hes offered the OC spot. At least that's the vibe I've gotten this afternoon. I think we're probably on to new fish by Sunday afternoon if we can't get him by then in some capacity.

If he's actually offered the offensive coordinator position, he'd be crazy to refuse, I don't care how good his current job is.

Well that won't happen anyway. The best it ever was going to get for him was a Co-OC and someone else calling the plays. And that additional title was so he could say he was getting a better deal.

The good news is that is sounds like the defensive coaches all pa

You seem to be in the know, whose the netx OC?

  7. Not to get us off topic on this thread, but with all of the speculation about potential OCs, has anyone heard any names of possible for the WR position? Kind of surprising how that hasn't really been discussed much, especially with the expectation that Bo will unveil all of the new hires at once sometime next week.

Im guessing it depends on who is hired, their could be some resuffling of current staff to different positions. If Warinner gets hired I could see Barney moving to TEs Brown moving to WRs and Warinner coaches the Oline, with Beck coaching either RBs or QBs, or both. Its really tough to say right now, with it will sort itself out.

That's true. And it sounds like at least at first Bo was trying to get Frost to come over to be the WR coach, though apparently Frost didn't bite on that. Maybe your reshuffling idea is Bo's plan B.

Bo doesn't seem like the negotiating type, id say if Frost didn't take the first offer then that could be it for the Frost to NU talk.... maybe....

The new OC has been hired, but not very many people know who it is. But it's "Bo's man" and this is a good thing since these hires are basically Bo's last chance of succeeding here. If these guys fail, Bo fails. I'm guessing that it's the guy from Houston, but I don't know. Just an semi-educated guess.

Frost isn't' coming unless reality slaps him in the face. He still has too big of a head and doesn't want to be a Co anything even though he has done absolutely nothing to deserve it.

Where did this news come from?

  8. Our defense was awful in 2007. Watson's offense was right on the heels of his that year. Kansas - #8. Nebraska - #9.

Good point, but KU was putting up points on everyone that year.... In the end it comes down to the players, and you never know how much sucess is based on talent and how much is coaching....

  10. By the way, just saw where Bo has talked to Jackson and everything is cool with both of them. Bo told him that everything happened very quickly and the Sanders resignation kind of came out of left field.

So, I guess we can all rest easy, Jackson isn't pissed at Bo.

We can all breathe a little easier, now if only ESPN will stop talking about it. :LOLtartar:espnsucks:

  11. They completely ignored / glossed over what Kugler said about the timing. His description of the timing seemed pretty reasonable, but it's better TV for Ware to blah blah blah about people being deceived.

The "timing" excuse works for the Coach Sanders situation, but it doesn't with all the turnover expected on the offensive side of the ball. I just have a hard time believing that Pelini was not honest with the recruits about the offensive changes. The Sanders thing might have caught him off guard some. I don't know, it is all frustrating at this point :bang

  12. The only way I see him coming here is if he's Offensive Coordinator. No way he makes a lateral move. Get him here and put him in position to succeed Bo if he ever leaves. This guy is one hell of a recruiter and is rising rapidly through the ranks. Snag him before someone else does.

No way he makes a lateral move?? I would be shocked if he wouldn't make the lateral move, not that he will have too. The guy is from Nebraska, and most of us who are from Nebraska can speak to the dreams of playing, and coaching at NU. :thumbs

it would be senseless for him to come as less than the OC

A lateral move to most, but not necessarily a Nebraska born kid.

  14. :dunno This is a big loss, don't get me wrong, but I would imagine that the brains behind the success of our secondary was Coach Bo.... The loss of Sanders will effect us more on the recruiting side of things. Either way, great coach, and it is sad to see him go...
  15. I actually know an assistant coach on his high school team, and he tells me that the guy is very high on Arkansas, and Nebraska.... From what I've been told we should not short change ourselves on our chances of landing this kid.... :clap:woo

  16. Longtime viewer, First time poster here, and it is no coincidence that I signed up today. I chose today for one of two reasons:

    1. I obviously know something about the "surprise". I am a fountain of "insider" information.

    2. There is 20 inches of snow outside, and I had nothing else to do.

Love the board, and am looking forward to offering up my opinion on all things Huskers!
