  1. I'm going to watch the game again, but I feel that many times when we were going to run a play, Martinez calls a hard count and then looks to the sideline for an audible. Do we feel like these are working? Beck is upstairs signaling down to the coaches on the field who are then signaling to Martinez.

Also, Martinez is calling his own audibles several times after reading the defense.....what is our success rate after an audible is called?

In the end I feel there was some success here espcially late in the game.

Taylor has actually graded out very high in his audibles at the line. I know week one he changed the play several times when Beck was wanting to run a play to see how it would work and Taylor read the defense and changed it. They finally had to tell him to run the play so they could get it on tape. Many of our big plays this year have come on his change calls. The coaches have been very happy with that aspect and they stated he is ahead of where they thought he would be with those after only 2 games.

    How do you know this?

They have said this in multiple interviews. Beck said that a couple of Martinez's long touchdown runs were him audibling at the line. They also say he is reading the defense really well.

  2. He wants it done right. That is the idea and his is willing to make sure it happens. It's good to know he wants it done right instead of scrapping it. Practice will hopefully iron out those things he wants run right and has a lot of tape on what is wrong and how to fix it. Run it and run it right!

  3. Giving up 7 points all game isn't a big deal. Unless you only scored 6 or less.

I would agree if this were Ohio State or Wisconsin but not the team we played. I would think, even as a point of honor, that they would make it a priority not to be scored upon. Was my expectation unrealistic? I did think they played well though. I'm very proud of them but maybe my expectations of the entire game were off. I wasn't one of the ones who thought we would 'beat the crap outta them'. It seems like these FCS teams have nothing to lose so why not go in and 'face the giants' They may get lucky and win like SDSU did last season. Do you think we might've underestimated this team? Or was it truly just a 'glorified scrimmage' and because the team knew that they didn't play up to their potential? Thanks for the discussion!

A lot of teams with big expectations couldn't shut out there much weaker opponents. It's not like we played a high school team here. It is understandable to want a shutout every game, but even against some weak opponents your going to slip up eventually. Last years team didn't get any shutouts. '09 got 2 with the first happening 4 games in. Give the defense time to mold and let our best d-back get on the field before you write this off as a less than stellar performance. We stopped crucial fourth down plays and blocked a field goal. The defense lived up to most of my expectations with some mistakes that are going to happen on opening day. Hope things continue to get better next week!!!

  4.

    Absolutely Bondi needed to play.

You can't have one guy do FG's, XPT's Punting and kickoffs. Their leg would be dead by the end of the season.

Both were auditioning to be the primary kicker but whichever didn't get that was still going to handle kickoff duties this year and if Bondi had won the primary kicking job Maher would still be the punter.

Aside from kick-off's, Henery did that last year and did just fine

People always say that. But it seems like playing LB for one series would be a LOT harder on a guy than handling all the kicking/punting duties for the whole game. Just sayin...

Go out and kick 30 field goals today and see how your leg feels tomorrow.

Kickoff duty alone for a good offense is a big job.

  5. Flukes happen in one game. This is suppose to simulate the game 101 times. That means the team that should win comes out on top most of the time getting rid of the fluke game and stating in "in general we think ****** will win." The simulation provides flukes in both directions and equals out to who had a better team throughout the year.

That being said, you should see almost exact outcomes to what you saw for overall records in reality other than a shift in scheduling. 5-3 shows this is a worthless simulating device or human.

    DONE.
