Your posts made me think about my own course and its hazards.  So I counted:

    • white tees: 6230 yards, par 70
    • 8 holes have water in play
    • 17 holes have one or more bunkers  around the greens
    • 4 holes have fairway bunkers
    • It's very hilly.  13 holes have hills in play
    • The greens are very contoured.  There's only one relatively flat green, and no dome shaped greens.

This is basically the exact opposite of the course I grew up playing. It was 9 hole small town course with tiny greens, not much contouring and only 3 bunkers and 1 water hazard on the entire course. Come to think of it that is most likely why my sand game sucks so bad.

But I would much rather play a course like Benson or Johnny Goodman in Omaha as opposed to a Stone Creek or Tiburon.

I agree.  I like courses with lots of strategically placed hazards.  At least if it's sand, you don't lose a ball like water.

I like courses that make you make shots.....even if I have a bad score playing them.  It's more interesting golf to me.

Agreed. Some of my favorite courses that I have played have been on the shorter side but require more thinking to get around them and you can't just hit driver and not care where it ends up.

I agree that Arop needed a year in prep school (and that's where he is now).  I never said that he didn't.  It just seemed like about the time it came out that Miles wanted him to go to a prep school, Chang eliminated NU from his list of schools.  It may have been coincidence, but since I don't know either kid I have no idea.  That's why I said "I think".

What I do know is that I'm tired of NU basically never getting any of the good Nebraska HS players.

I didn't intend for my post to come off as being directed solely at you. But yes i do agree that Miles needs to start finding a way to get the gets out of the Metro that are BIG level players. I don't think any of the kids in Omaha think too highly of Nebraska. And it just seems like McDermott has a better relationship with coaches in the area.

Is that because Creighton actually runs an offense?

This would be a large part of it yes. And if you look at where Chang excels it's at shooting the ball. He's a stretch 4 at the next level and Creighton has had some pretty good luck with that position in the past.

I think he got upset when Miles wanted the kid from Omaha South (forget his name) to go to a prep school for a year.  He felt like Miles was saying that Omaha players weren't good enough to play in the B1G right out of HS.

Ed's recruitment has nothing to do with Arop. And say all you want about Mile and his recruiting but he ended up being right that the Arop kid needed a year of prep school. And in all honesty Ed would be a better fit for what Creighton does offensively.

Yeah, a lot of times, I really like it.  Some people don't like all the sand but I am a fan of that place.  We had our school scramble there for years...

If you don't like the sand don't hit it there....but seriously I think it is a very fair layout and the course is always in really good shape.

  6. Say for arguments sake that Nebraska finishes 4-2 over their last six. That puts them at 21-10 and 12-6 heading into the conference tournament. When was the last time a power 5 team that won 12 conference games was left out of the big dance?

Assuming they finished 12-6 you would have to think they get a pretty favorable matchup in the conference tournament to win at least 1 game. Now obviously anything is possible but I can't see them getting left out if they get to 12 wins, especially the way they have looked as of late.

You have to do what's right for yourself, just like coaches do, clearly just another example of Miles not being able to a cohesive team together.

I get what you are trying to say here but I don't think it applies to this situation. Jordy has been a starter this entire year and has played and would continue to play a key role in the success of this team. This team looks to be better/more cohesive than any team in the past few years.

Everything NU taught in the weight room back then is absolutely relevant today.  Dynamic lifts involving multiple joints to build explosiveness.  Plyometrics to build explosiveness and agility.

Do you know what a "flying 40" exercise is?  Or the technical reasons it was implemented at NU?

Obviously the base principles would be successful. Those should be used in any program regardless of sport.

What I'm saying is if you took Boyds program and didn't change a thing about it I don't think it could work today. You can run and jump as much as you want but if there's no time spent with flexibility, mobility and joint stabilization it's all pointless.

If I'm not mistaken Boyd Eppley was brought back into the program 3 years ago when Riley was hired to oversee S & C.  He doesn't do the day to day lifting but he is the architect of the program.  I think what we might be seeing is the lack of steroids that were pretty common in the mid 80's into the 90's.  Perhaps it wasn't Boyd Eppleys lifting that turned our linemen into mountains as much as the pharmaceuticals doing their job.

Totally agree with this. Boyd's program that was used in the 90's wouldn't succeed in today's environment.

To me the root of this issue isn't the strength staff at NU. These kids specialize in one sport at a very early age. They train for one sport, lift for one sport etc. This creates weaknesses and imbalances that if not properly addressed will eventually catch up with any athlete.

There has to be time spent focusing on stabilization and strengthening not only muscles but tendons and connective tissue. These things seem boring but can make a big difference.

Tebow was a 5 star prospect and the #1 dual threat QB in his class. I wouldn't say he wasn't talented. He just wasn't a NFL QB.

You can have a team full of untalented guys that refuse to lose but that doesn't mean they will win anything. Motivated talent plus good coaching will win you a lot of games.

I think Nebraska really needs to pick up a QB in this recruiting cycle ( they should be doing it every year). There doesn't seem to be much depth at the position.

But in all seriousness you're probably right. I just couldn't miss out on the chance to post that.

That's a great attitude!  I always love to hear fans argue in favor of their team NOT making an NC game.  smh

Not arguing in favor of them not making it.  But when it's included on a list of accomplishments of a coach I feel it should be pointed out.

Never in my life will I root for Nebraska to lose. Even that night when I was 12 I rooted like hell for Nebraska even though i understood we had no business being in that game.

My 18 year old son was told to sit down numerous times by some blue hair! Not surprised at all--he replied exactly as he was coached to do "I'm sorry sir, I'm just so in to this game! Stand up and cheer with me! I spent my hard earned money for this ticket just like you!" The blue hair mumbled about how he should teach that punk a lesson. Good luck old man, he's a lean mean weight lifting 6'3" 220 pound 4.0 student. Stay home and watch it on TV!

I love the tradition that the blue hairs started and passed down through the generations but these type of things drive me insane. I've been told a couple of times through the years to sit at games. There has to be some sort of solution for this.

Also the crowd sounded real loud on TV and my speakers in my vehicle damn near broke when A. Williams had his pick 6. Was driving from one party to the other. Should've just stayed in the car. Game got out of hand once we got there.

New Bookie Article. Sounds real solid. Hopefully he is truly committed to Nebraska and not just Riley. If Riley gets canned and Bookie stays on board I think he can keep the class together.

Will be interesting to see if this happens. For whatever reason lately I've been having a hunch that Riley gets another year. If he's canned I think Bookie ends up at Clemson assuming the new coach can't keep the class together.

Well Raridon has also played. The guys Riley have brought in haven't been here long enough to be our top lineman which is fine, ideally we want our juniors and seniors to be better than our redshirt frosh

And I have seen improvement actually, 5 straight games with a 100 yard rusher and Lee sacked only once I believe against Wisconsin who got NW 8 times. The line has been steadily improving.

Agreed with the bolded part. And for as well as Jaimes has been playing the fact that he is playing tells you all you need to know about some of the "talent" Riley inherited across the O-line. Once could make the argument that our 2 worst lineman right now are the 2 most veteran lineman. Now I'm still not sold that Cav is a good coach along the line but once he made the switch to Decker and Jaimes, which was forced upon him due to injuries, our line has looked better. Hopefully that can continue this week and into the rest of the season.

What a blessing in disguise this could be. Riley goes back to OSU, he makes 1.5 millions, cuts Nebraska's payments in half to him for his buyout...

On a sour note, Anderson's failure could be partly due to Riley's losing culture that was cultivated for many years at OSU, hopefully Nebraska can rid itself of his loser mentality when he packs up his prius.

Don't think I would call it a loser mentality. Mediocre teams/winning percentage?? Yes, but to call it a loser mentality is a bit harsh if you ask me.
