  1. The other part he got wrong was the Off Season training and weight program. They got that idea from Bama in the late 60's when Devaney was the Coach. After taking a beating from Bama, The Nebraska staff started asking Bama questions. That is when they learned about off season training programs. This info I heard on an audio coaching tape that Osbourne did.
  2. Good post not all true. Osbourne got the Defense phylosphy from Bowden. He took his entire defensive staff down to Florida State several years in a row to learn the FSU 4-3 Rover Defense. The Florida Schools were taking Safeties and putting them at LB and LBs and moving to the DL back in the 80's. Osbourne switched to the 4-3 in 1993. But he started recuiting for it a few years prior.
  3. Now it is T.O. fault? What a joke. People have to blame others and look for excuses. Pederson and Callahan ruined this program. Not T.O. and not Frank Solich. Who in their right mind fires a 10-3 Coach? Did you realy think a good Coach would want to come in to a situation where they just fired a Coach that went 10-3, played for a National Championship 2 years earlier and had won 75% of his games? The only Coach even remotely interested was a 1 year wonder NFL reject with 2 years Head Coaching experience. The timing was bad and anyone with a little common sence knew it.
  4. First off. SP fired Coach that was winning 75% of his games and had played for a National Championship. Regardless the outcome, he did get the Huskers there and that is a fact. He did have a down year of 7-7. That was a direct result of McBride retiring as DC. He made changes to his staff and rebounded to a 10-3 Team. SP had a hard time finding a Coach. Not many would want to take a job that job security is an issue. The perception was 10-3 gets you kicked out of Lincoln. Callahan tried to sell Husker Nation on the WCO as this state of the Art offense. It worked on selling it to the fans but the truth is the West Coast offense is over 2 decades old. San Fran ran it in the early 80's and maybe as early as late 70's. There is nothing new or state of the art about it. When you look back at the great San Fran Teams, they did something Callahans version of the WCO doesn't do. That is Stretch the field with the long Ball. Every week, every game you see Teams go deep but not Nebraska. It happens to the Blackshirts every week. Things didn't go well and the spin factor began. For 4 years now you heard it was Solich fault and Solich players didn't fit the System and were not good enough. Using that the players are not good isn't going to get them to play hard for you. That was a BIG Mistake! They also used the recruiting as a sign of great things to come. Here we are in year 4. This husker Team is the worse in 50+ years. That's right we have gone back a half decade. The Defense has no passion. The Zones they run leave huge holes in the secondary, puts no pressure on QB's and can't stop the run. The Scheme is bad and we don't have a head coach who knows how to fix it. That is right, it is Callahans job to step up and fix any aspect of the game that is broken. All great head coaches know every aspect of the game. Yes they may primarily work with one side of the ball but they know enough to step up and fix things when the DC isn't getting things done. Our O-Line is Big but slow. On top of that the blocking schemes have them moving side ways. They never go forward. Let be realistic here. 3rd and 2 situations, you need a push up front to get the first down. The box is filled with 8 or 9 men. You can't zone block against that. You have to man up and get the push needed to get the first down. Another problem is penalties. We have a player that starts on the O-Line that has been a penalty Magnet since he got here. Not going to mention his name but why is he still starting when he cost the team so many yards and even first downs? Recruiting isn't as good as they are spinning it. Tom Osbourne once said that it isn't the Kids you sign, it is the ones you lose. He said it is important to show recruits exactly what will be expected of them and exactly what to expect. I don't think Callahan has done that well as he has lost some big star recruits. But than they just spin it and Husker Nation says we don't want them here any ways. Truth is they never should of been here and a year or two of a wasted Scholership would have been saved if Callahan had presented these Kids with the truth of what to expect. This brings me to mismanaging players. Too many players are being moved from one position to another. Callahan is wasting good athletes because they are not seeing the field because they do not know their new position well enough to get significant playing time. Developing talent doesn't happen in Lincoln anymore. One of the spins used on Husker nation is making them think that a 4 or 5 star recruit is an immediate impact player on the college level. This is the furthest thing from the truth. They are nothing more than a High School All-Star. They are NOT College All-Stars and not even close to it. Their claim to fame is being dominate against a bunch of under sized and slow High School Kids. They would be lucky to see more than 1 or 2 future D-I players lined up against them on Friday night. They have to be developed in to College players. More on that is the fact that even when games get out of Control, we do not see the projected starter for the next season get any reps. Games like the last 2 weeks is the perfect time to help develop a QB. You can get him playing time against the other Teams #1s. He will be more prepared next season. So go ahead and buy the It's Solich Fault or it is Osbournes Fault for naming Solich Head Coach spins if you want. But it is nothing more than a lie.
  5. How many Options did they run. How many worked?
  6. Let see my choices here A - Win the last 6 games, become north division champs than get Pounded in the BIG XII Championship B - Get pounded now and not get to play in the Championship game uhhh, hmmmm, uuhhh Yeah! I will take (A)
  7. Bingo!! Chris Peterson - Boise State peterson is a good play caller but, how well can he coach his players up(if for instance we have 2 more years or what have you of BC) and boise state is still good then i'd pick him, i just think we need a few more years to know if he can coach players up. A few more good season and he will not be available for the Nebraska Job. His stock will rise and better money with less pressure will be offered.
  8. That was being sent around back when Solich went 7-7
  9. I see the option run every Saturday. It is far from dead. Solich ran it almost every down it seemed like but a lot of those were realy QB ISO plays. There was no option to go to. Osbourne didn't run it as often as people think. Osbourne was a power run game with misdirection/Counter, Option and Play Action mixed in. Osbourne also was running a good bit of Option out of the Spread in his later years.
  10. Available - Jimmy Johnson. Yeah you all hate him but he is a proven winner and always had a nasty defense at the U. Never happen but would be good. Beamer from Virginia Tech. He always has good teams with solid defense and great special teams.
  11. The question is who was more vaulable to their Team. Clearly it is Vince Young. Texas does not win a NC with out him. They did not have the talent 2 deep at the QB position. Nebraska had a 2nd string QB that would have been the starter at most schools in the country. They got it done with TF out of the lineup against a some tough Teams including a blow out of #2 Ranked Colorado.
  12. So defense and special teams aren't part of the team? Playing well on D and special teams don't count? i suppose if WE won a game with ST plays and INT's it wouldn't count either? newsflash, the whole effort counts, ST's, defense, INT's, returns, the whole ball of wax! We did....Ball State
  13. I've seen the Warriors live. Its not hype. Colt Brennan is the man. I agree, The Warriors are no joke. I don't think Nebraska can stop them.

  15. And this has changed with Callahan? The only chance Solich is Head Coach at Nebraska again is if T.O. becomes A/D and wants him.
  16. Coz went away from the basics and tried to be too cute in the preseason. He tried to play with a few new looks rather than spend the time wisely. He should have just installed the Base 4-3, a few Blitz packages and a couple differant coverages. Than add in his Nickle or Dime plus a Prevent. Than add on from there depending on what you are going to face each week. By doing this he could have also spent more time developing the fundamental skills at each position plus tackling and angles of persuit. The D-Line is new and definately needed this. The LBs are experianced but still could have used the work, especialy scraping off blocks. Coz should of known this was going to be needed with the new DL. The secondary has improved but again could get a lot better. Not only in coverage but in run support. Basicaly Coz wasted valuable time trying to get fancy.
  17. No way a Freshman starts in this offense next year. Beck only got his 1 start because of an Injury to ZT and no depth at the QB position. There is much more depth now.
  18. Sounds like the Pedey spin on the Radio.
  19. A player is much better in his 5th year than in his 4th. When you wate a Redshirt so a Kid can play only on Special Teams it doesn't help him as much as having an extra year. I tell all my Kids that go on to play in College to Redshirt unless they are the Starter.
  20. That record may already be a hoax. I heard Friday that Ball St had returned a few hundred tickets and those that weren't sold by game time would be bought by the university to keep the streak alive. Those tickets were sold. I know someone who tried to get a seat and was turned away because they were all gone by the time they got there.
  21. Exactly. NO, giving up 40 and being lucky to beat Ball St is bush league. If you don't express your frustrations, then what does the cheering really mean? "Cheering only" mentality makes each cheer less meaningful also. Oh, and Callahan is definitely Bush League He can get fired but they will have to pay him still. No way they can afford to fire Callahan now. They would have to pay him plus the new head coach.
  22. Come on people. Cosgrove still has a few Solich players on the D. I am sure when Cosgrove gets his players, things will be much better and the Black Shirts will Dominate College Football never being scored on again.
  23. My answer and as a Coach you should understand this one. The lack of developing talent is the reason for the large gap between Nebraska and the Top 5. The only way Nebraska is going to get the talent is to develop it like USC, Oklahoma, LSU and Florida have been doing. If you take 22 five Star players out of H.S. and start them as Freshman. You will not beat USC or even come close to competing with them. If those 22 players do not get the proper coaching to develop their talent, they will still lose their senior year to a Team like USC.
