United Kingdom -- A woman who fostered a teenage refugee is planning to marry him — after having his baby.

Julia Gregg, 34, gave a home to Kosovan Krenar Lleshi after he smuggled himself into Britain in the back of a lorry at the age of 14.

But after her marriage to husband Steve broke down she fell in love with the lad.

And now she has become a mum for the first time with the arrival of daughter Hattie. Julia and Krenar, now 21, have celebrated the birth by getting engaged and plan to marry later this year.

Julia said yesterday: “We are ecstatic. There is nothing better for us than our daughter — she’s our gift from God. We are no different from any other couple. I know people have gossiped about us but we are very proud parents.

“Our relationship began a long time after the breakdown of my marriage.”

Julia and Steve, 38, had fostered more than 20 teenagers at their home at Ebbw Vale, South Wales, before Krenar arrived.

He was sent to them in 1999 by the local authority, along with Edmond Pone, another 14-year-old Kosovan stowaway.

The lads began learning English and started college courses but were then listed as illegal immigrants.

Julia battled to keep them in Britain. Edmond lost his fight to stay but fled before he could be deported. The Home Office gave Krenar “exceptional leave” to stay as his family had also fled Kosovo and he had no one to return to.

He lived with Julia after her marriage failed and the pair fell in love when he was 19. Plumber Krenar said: “I am really happy with Julia and Hattie. We are engaged.”

A friend said: “A lot of people might find it a strange relationship. Julia was a mum to Krenar to start with but something deeper started to happen between them.

“She tried to fight it because she was in a position of trust. But in the end love won through.”

Ex-hubby Steve declined to comment yesterday. A pal said: “He’s moved on with his life.”
