really really dumb question

You have three options:

 

1. Just type it, like so - http://www.yahoo.com

 

2. Type the word to which you want to attach the URL, then click the Hyperlink button near the top of the message (it looks like a small globe with two links of a chain at the lower right) and type in the URL.

 

3. Do Number 2 manually. Let's say that you want to have the work LINK linked to http://www.yahoo.com. Here's what the code would look like:

 

[url=http://www.yahoo.com]LINK[/url]
