ToddB10000
If the current coach goes 32-1 over his next 33 games, he will EQUAL that former coach that was supposedly pushing NU to mediocrity...I thought Stevie P brought Mr. Bill to NU to EXCEED a 58-19 record. Looks to me like the current group will fail... Frank Solich has truly been vindicated from any percieved mishandling of our beloved Cornhuskers. Stevie P will never enjoy vindication - all the things that have never been done before to the Cornhuskers are happening because of Stevie P - 4 games with 40+ on the Huskers, etc... I can't bring myself to support any of the current coaches or staff or administrators of the Cornhuskers, but I will NEVER bash the players. I believe they are doing exactly what they have been coached to do - the players have been embarassed by LACK OF COACHING, not lack of heart, desire, or effort. Quote Link to comment

Wharf Rat
Frank Solich has truly been vindicated from any percieved mishandling of our beloved Cornhuskers. Bullsh$t. Frank was inept and in way over his head in his handling of a team at this level. Just because his successor is ever worse certainly doesn't excuse FS from taking a top tier team and running it into the ground anymore than HCBC is excused from taking a mediocre team and turning it into a bottom ten contender. And he had a lot of off-the-field issues that led to him being fired. There's more to it than his final season's record. Remember, this is the guy who was found slumped over his steering wheel drunk and claimed that he was given the date rape drug. This was classless, imagine if TO did this, we'd all lose respect for him, and rightfully so. The program deserved someone with more integrity than FS. Quote Link to comment

Yeah, but if he did that he'd most likely have 1 maybe 2 national championships in the next 2/3 years. Quote Link to comment

A bowl game season? What do you call it? He was told to fix it, and the next year they went 10-3. He only gets official credit for 9-3, but his team went 10-3. What's wrong with that? What do you call 5-6? How about 70-10? How about 4 teams hanging 40 on us in 1 season? Do you think firing Frank was a step FORWARD?? Quote Link to comment

There's the issue with Solich, you shouldn't have to tell a Husker coach to "Fix it". The expectations at this program are common knowledge and shouldn't have to be spoonfed to a coach. I'm not defending Callahan, but I don't think we'd be that much better with Solich. There's a reason he's coaching in the MAC. Even in 2003, we were still embarrased against Mizzou, Texas, and K-State. Look at Bo Pelini's mighty defense yesterday against Kentucky. The program needed a change, and it turns out that Callahan isn't the answer, so it's time to move on. If you want to have the "I told you so" attitude, that's fine by me. No one's opinion is going to fix the mess we're in now. Quote Link to comment
DCHusker
How can you argue that a current coach's ineptness in any way proves whether or not a previous coach was worthwile? I don't have strong feelings about Solich one way or the other, but BC's struggles are not evidence of Solich's value... Quote Link to comment

No one's opinion is going to fix the mess we're in now. Well...I'm picking nits here, but it's going to take someone's opinion that the current coaching staff sucks and has to go - until then it won't get fixed. Sorry to say it, but I've had the "I told you so" attitude many times over the past 3 1/2 seasons...every time I drink the kool-aid it has the same effect...Good posts LAHusker. I haven't read this board very much - I'm new here - but I think half of rawhide's posts are the same "beating the dead horse". Rawhide - we know this, okay? But since there is nothing positive to talk about today, let's talk about the past since it makes us feel a bit better. Remember the thrashing of Florida? How about Northwestern in the Alamo Bowl, when everyone involved felt we got stiffed on a better bowl game? Maybe the Mike Stuntz pass to Eric Crouch vs OU? Or the Eric Crouch 95 yard run vs Missouri? Or maybe the Clemson go for the win play? Solich is a Husker - he's family. I'll always support him. We all know that the old flux-capacitor-in-the-delorean-trick isn't real, but using information from the past to support a supposition about the present isn't really beating a dead horse - it's simply a method by which we cope with the current state of Husker Nation.
