is not coming to Nebraska, period! Butch has an iron tight contract at UNC, and if he was to leave UNC it would be for Arkansas where he graduated. This may be a bad year to be looking for a head coach with these possible openings to compete with:

A. Michigan-More than likely this is it for Lloyd as he will retire from coaching and take an administrative position. Wolves will likely targer Les Miles, as he is a Mich Grad and will be popular among the boosters. If Miles leaves LSU it will start a dominio effect.

B. UCLA-Barring a miracle run Dorrell is gone! Bruins need to make a splash with their next hire to compete with USC in L.A. Names such as Chris Peterson, Glen Mason, and Paul Johnson are all being tossed around. I think they will aim higher and go for a bigger name, as they have the resources to outbid anyone.

C. A&M-Franchione is toast, period! Tubberville is on their radar, but if he turns them down, then the Aggies will surely be looking at many of the same prospects as Nebraska.

D. ND-While it is still an outside chance that they do not bring Charlie back, but if they buy him out then the coaching pool will surely be squeezed.

E. Baylor-Morris is gone according to sources inside the Athletic Department. More than likely, they will first pursue Mike Singletary before looking at anyone else.

F. Arkansas-50/50 chance that Nutt is gone, many inside the program feel there needs to be a cleaning of the house. If he is fired then Butch Davis would be their top target.

G. Cuse-Robinson will be canned, as the fan base and administration feel the school is a sleeping giant. I would not be surprised if they are big player in the coaching market with the resurgence of the Big East.

H. Ole Miss-Tough place to win, but it's still in the revered SEC.

I. Washington State-The expectations in Pullman are not being met so Doba will more than likely be gone.

Other Openings (potential)

J. SMU-Open

K. Colorado St

L. Utah State

M. Memphis

N. Marshall

Keep an eye on (for potantial openings)

O. GT- Alot of bad blood exists between alums and Chan.

P. Zona-Stoops needs to win out

Q. Iowa-Kirk is now willing to listen to NFL overtures.

So, as you can see, there is going to quite alot of competition for head coaches this off season. Huskers may be better off pursuing a rising coordinator such as: Venables, Mullen, Jimbo Fisher, or Muschamp. They could also look at rising coaches such as Leavitt, or Brian Kelly, but you have to ask why would Leavitt leave?
