Eric the Red
Simplified defense looks to take big strides in spring practice But last year’s failures won’t force Cosgrove to lower his standards. “Hopefully we’ll improve our pass rushing on our front four. It starts there,” Cosgrove said. “We’ve changed out coverage a little bit, we’re trying to be a little more physical on receivers right now, and hopefully with that, and a new and improved pass rush, we should be a lot better.” Quote Link to comment
turkwilliams
It seems there are some disgruntled fans out there. Is Cosgrove really that bad? I don't think it's fair to put all the blame on him for the demise of the defense. The 11 on defense have to go all out regardless of where they are standing when the ball is hiked. They have got to perform. With defense, it's more of a matter of having pride within yourself to stop the offense. When you're on the field in front of thousands of fans and foes, you can't just mope around and get trampled on because you don't like the coach... knock some heads off!!! There are scouts watching, players need to realize they are playing more for themselves these days. Quote Link to comment

The only thing I would disagree on is about them playing for themselves. Although it may be somewhat true, they stil must use the team first mentaility at all times, which of course defense relies very much on, to keep everyone in the right lanes and all. But great post!! Hunter94
it is much easier to make a defensive play if you are in the right position..that is not only the result of intensity, but good coaching makes it happen more often hunter Quote Link to comment
bigredtoad
Exactly hunter. Man that was a good TV show, what ever happend to that show? Quote Link to comment
Blackshirt34
Good coaching and defensive shcemes puts the players in the most possible situations where their talent and abilities give them the opportunities to make the plays. Defense is just as much coaching as playing, coaching will get you into the best position but its still up to the player to make the play in the end. Quote Link to comment
