  1. .... and the truth shall set you free.
  2. It's crisis not crises (whatever that is). Speaking of . What are you talking about, aura?? Can you see an aura around anyone else? What does a championship aura look like? Would anyone recognize one or do you need special training/glasses?? Or do you need to be "special" to see it? Just wondering. I keed, I keed see -- Charlie Weis.
  3. The coaching staff must establish an identity for the program. Bottom line. Recruits, especially top ones, need assurance that they'll have a chance to excell and show their talents at whatever school they sign with to enhance their shot at the NFL. I believe this is why NU had as much success as it had in the T.O. era. The man had a proven, winning scheme and it attracted the best RB's, TE's, QB's, and linemen to the program. Put it all together and you get a couple of National Titles, you see? What we have in place now is a decent coach with an unproven system. Top players will not put themselves in this type of situation. That is why the team looks the way it does now. The Huskers have a lot of mid-grade recruits on the field on the strength of Cally's NFL experience, but not enough top-shelf players because a lot of those kids don't see a winner in him. Sad but true. I could guarantee Notre Dame won't have a recruting problem with Charlie Weis at the helm. Why? You know why, count the rings. High school athletes see it just as we fans see it. Those kids he coached came out with almost the same lineup against the same USC team they lost to by 30 the last few meetings and took them to the brink (in my opinion, beat 'em). Why? They believed in the man and his philosophy. This same Irish team will be poised for a title run next season with a Heisman candidate at QB and a killer recruiting class. Sounds like those old Huskers, huh? Coach Cally just doesn't have that championship aura surronding him. He's a decent coach that's capable of decent records. Us followers of the Cornhuskers don't want decency... we want to win in dominating fashion and get some Titles. He's had time and hasn't shown that capability. Personally, I feel it's time for a change. Not neccessarily back to the 'beloved option', but to a proven, confident coach that can get us back to prominence. Not having Nebraska in the top 10 in the end and beginning of the year talking about a possible title hurts the program in more ways than you could imagine.
  4. Can anyone give me a sound defense to stop the triple option out of the wishbone with a TE on the left and a split end on the right, running the play to the right??? I haven't been able to come up with one without compramising the left side, and/or deep third.
  5. Say ol' Nameless one...... How are the blackshirts looking?? Are they pretty dominate or what? Tell me we can at least kill the running game.
  6. How is the morale of the players going into this season? Are they seriously thinking national title in the locker room? Do they feel more confident in their own abilities and their leadership to get it going this season? I'm down here in New Orleans talking mad trash on my beloved Cornhuskers!!! My only concern (that I had to keep to myself) is that we don't lose that killer instinct-- that fight. We're rebuilding, and with the players having that in mind, I'm thinking maybe they won't go all out on the field.....say it ain't so!!!!! I'm ordering all of NU's games on the dish, and before I have a gang of people come over for beer, bbq, and big red... I need to know if we're bringing the heat!!!! I'd love to hear from an actual player or anyone with an inside track
  7. Hey fellas... Adidas and Reebok will continue to operate as seperate companies. They will be working together on a new clothing line (shirts, pants) but still will be marketing shoes seperately.
  8. Well.....how do we look at full speed??? Are we contenders yet or what? I'm still having trouble finding a post about the situation with the wideouts. Do we have an outstanding WR or two that stepped it up in the scrimmage? Yall say Taylor had over 200 yds and 3 scores-- who got the meat of that? Or was it more of an all-around effort? leflore and fluellen are doing well as far as receiving. I see octavian is practicing returning kicks. Thats intriquing. I still have a feeling that taylor isn't to great and beck will beat him out after a couple of games. No one really talked about Beck too much in the forum when QB's were the topic. So he's been doing well also? It'll be a comforting thought knowing you have three capable guys to run the offense. Old Cally or whoever's calling the plays may feel they could take more chances with playcalling. So Octavian is practicing returning kicks?? That may not be a bad idea if he isn't starting on defense. The gunners wouldn't like crossing into that, I guarantee it. It's good to see athletes being moved around and used in different spots. Shows their versatility and that the staff is looking for the best man for each position. I'm telling you, we will be in contention for something good this season.
  9. I hope they can find a decent replacement for him. Panico may have stunk up the joint, but you have to give the man a break. Punt returner is not an easy position to play-- especially for a true freshman. He probably couldn't buck the pressure of having thousands of 'fans' calling for his head. Shame, since returning punts is one of those things you get better at through experience, he may just have gotten better at it since last season.....guess we'll never know. Since there are a stable of runningbacks, I suppose one of those guys will get the nod. Anybody but Ross though.... can't take away from the offense like that. At least not until someone else steps up and shows they can shoulder the load. Lucky maybe?

  11. You know what's gonna suck is the entire week leading up to the game, there going to show highlights of that damn game. What do think the Huskers will do against Tech this year?? I know what they better do to the Red Raiders this year.... Tech should be made an example out of (along with some other schools) to show the rest of the country we are not playing around and we are still top notch. Time to put the foot on the neck of these wannabees and apply pressure. The Troys, Texas Techs, Kansases and Maines are not supposed to be on the same field as us. Time to seperate.... let the blackshirts loose on these guys and get back to DOMINATION----the essence of Husker Football. This is what the people want to see. It's not the option itself that the fans loved but the feeling that their team can't be stopped. Its all about that swagger--gotta get it back!!! Seems like I rubbed a couple of people the wrong way when I talked about beating Texas Tech... my bad. ...but that doesn't mean I'm changing my stance!!! Tech isn't on our level man. They may pull a rabbit out of a hat every now and then, but I wouldn't make them locks to be champs of any kind...that's stretching it. We should dominate these people, period. Last year was a fluke in my opinion. This year, I may not be from Missouri... but they gotta SHOW ME. Whip Nebraska like that again, then I MIGHT respect them...but I don't see it. I give my boys a mulligan for last season-- we were clearly in turmoil...they caught us with our pants down...the big payback is coming though. The Big Red Machine is coming back tuned-up, trust me. Good teams always get back up after being down...and Nebraska is GREAT. Tech will feel the wrath for their antics. ...and OU better watch out too.
  12. Yeah, Johnny Rogers. He was a few levels above his peers and it showed. He had gotten the back-to-back heismans right? Man was an absolute beast. Besides him, Craig would be my only other choice. He could hurt you anywhere on the field, maybe even from the bench.

  14. Would you know if the staff is on top of the recieving corps like they are with the QB's? I'm just not hearing much at all about the WR's from anyone or anything. It seems the people of Husker Nation are embracing the change to the WCO, but don't want to let go of seeing the strong running game. These wideouts will make or break the quarterbacks and the system as a whole. Emphasis should be placed on improving these guys if anything is to work.
  15. Are any of the recievers over 6' tall? Are they physical? Were any of them playmakers at juco or something? Will there be a go-to guy to hit in the clutch? These WR's will make or break this offense once you really think about it. Is there any of them that the staff is keen on? Will the tight end be involved more or less?
  16. I don't hear anyone talking about the recievers. Do we have some burners out there or what? Will we be able to stretch the field more next season? Good recievers make the WC dangerous, keeps smaller defenders on the field and less in the box...makes for easier running, ya know? The highly touted Beck, Dailey or whoever would benefit big time having some dependable people to throw to. Confidence b/w the QB and WR brings more big plays passing and running.
  17. It seems there are some disgruntled fans out there. Is Cosgrove really that bad? I don't think it's fair to put all the blame on him for the demise of the defense. The 11 on defense have to go all out regardless of where they are standing when the ball is hiked. They have got to perform. With defense, it's more of a matter of having pride within yourself to stop the offense. When you're on the field in front of thousands of fans and foes, you can't just mope around and get trampled on because you don't like the coach... knock some heads off!!! There are scouts watching, players need to realize they are playing more for themselves these days.
  18. Ain't nuthin like it!! one-zero undisputed on fire
  19. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed and praying for this one!!!!
  20. Right on. Plus, I don't believe the Blackshirts will actually try to kill their own QB's at practice. Form tackle takedowns won't hurt them....QB's are athletes too, they aren't made of glass.
  21. It's so early yet, but If I had to make a prediction, he might not see as much of the field as once thought. I don't know thoug, it's very early Whenever you have a guy that came from a long, hard way with ability like Octavian, you put that guy on the field. He may be the hungriest man out there. Barring anything stupid happening, this man should make a huge impact on the field.
  22. Guerilla drills are the best way to get that team comraderie going. This is the best thing I've heard Cally do since visiting HuskerBoard!!! My opinion about him is changing week by week for the better. The guy just might be getting things on the right track. Is someone in his ear or what? New advisors?
  23. No such thing happening. All QB's are completly off limits for contact. It has to be that way, Oline is still working out the kinks. Qb's could get killed You're right. We don't want to kill our own QB's. I'll say a good hit-wrap-and hold would do though. Light contact. They need to work out kinks (O-line & QB's), but they also need to see things at game speed and feel real pressure. The QB has to know what he needs to do to make the offense go. WC QB's gotta have legs too and know how to use them.
  24. I agree. If they do not want to be here, then let them go. We are starting fresh. We don't need any negative vibes floating around the new blood. Too true. So, the players that left, are they players who were recruited by the last coach that didn't buy into Callahan's scheme- or players recruited by Callahan that had a change of heart? Are these players quitting altogether or will they transfer and play elsewhere? 31 players are quite a bit. It should be more than enough to fill any gaps. I'll need an eyewitness to tell me how we look in the spring game though, before I make any more comments on them. On paper, it seems we're going to be back on top real soon... I hope Callahan can turn it around with those guys. He should have most of the personnel he was looking for to make his plan work, so there should be no excuses this season... on offense. I hear we lost the 2 top corners from this season, is that true? With a lot of the atttention being on BC and the offense, the defense, which is what wins championships, is what really needs to be overhauled. The level of intimidation the blackshirts usually bring to the table has diminished over the last few years. Has anything been done to remedy that? We have had several position changes. Some plyers have been moved to D-back. Zach Bowman was very highly sought after recruit from juco. Rivals gave him 5 stars. I think that hes a safety. We also got juco help at linebacker and D line. Without have seen them play, They look big strong and MEAN. I think our d will be as improved as our offense will because of juco help. We lack depth at certain positions. This might make us vonerable to certain teams though IMO. So we won't have mostly "green" guys on the defense next season, huh? Well that's a big plus right there. How deep do you think we'll have to go into the depth chart to win games? That schedule seems pretty favorable... I think the team should be quite healthy towards the end of the year and could be poised to make a little run there hmmm? At least make a strong push for the North title?
