Auggie Garrido Suspended Indefinitely

Texas baseball coach Augie Garrido, the winningest coach in college baseball history, was arrested and charged with a DWI on Friday night, Rivals.com’s Chip Brown reported Saturday morning.

 

Austin Police Department spokesman James Mason confirmed Garrido’s arrest and charge and the University of Texas handed Garrido an indefinite suspension with pay.

 

“Texas baseball coach Augie Garrido has been placed on indefinite suspension following his arrest earlier today for alleged driving while intoxicated,” Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds said in a press release.

 

“The suspension, with pay, is pending until further information can be gathered. This is a difficult and regrettable situation that we are taking very seriously. I spoke with Coach Garrido and he’s devastated and realizes he made a serious mistake.

 

“He deeply regrets putting the university in this position and will act quickly to do what’s right.”

 

Garrido’s arrest comes just over a month before an important season for the Longhorns, who have failed to get past the regional round the past three seasons. Last season, the Longhorns finished 39-22.

 

 

Garrido has been suspended.. it'll be interesting to see what happens from this and what happens with the Texas baseball program.. Garrido HAS admitted to having 5 glasses of wine and then driving intoxicated....

Just got off the phone with Rivals.com contributor and Orangebloods.com senior writer Chip Brown, who was at the presser at UT. He said that Garrido will serve a four-game suspension by the university and that UT athletic director said the situation was unacceptable but deserving of a second chance. That's Garrido's punishment.
