VA Husker Fan
I see a couple people got upset when their threads disappeared, when the threads actually got merged with another thread with the same topic. Maybe instead of deleting the old thread, mods could just lock it with a pointer to the original thread. The duplicate thread will sink because it's locked, but the OP will not think it just got deleted. This is a lot like how you keep a MOVED pointer in the original forum when you move a thread to the correct forum. In fact if you catch it early enough (first post or two) you don't even have to merge the threads. Just lock the thread with a post pointing to the duplicate topic. If it's important for the poster, they can go post in the original thread. It should be on them to look for an existing thread anyway, so why not let them do the work of copying the post to the right thread rather than the mods doing it? Just a suggestion.
