Doc said in his post game notes ""There are a lot of good things (that we did). The thing I told the team, my math is not really good, but I think when you get it down to about eight or nine guys, you're looking at 25 minutes a person."

If the season plays out to this tune that would account for many of last years deficits. minutes per guy is now a function of size and capability, whereas last year, the size deficit accounted for the lack of productivity. Harley had 937 minutes and at his size we could not have expected him to lead in rebounds, he just wasnt able to be productive in all those minutes played, due to his size and the positions he was assigned.

A 9 man rotation with this new bunch enables better matchups to functions in every game. This will produce a better result across all major categories of the game, Attempts, Rebounds, Blocks, Steals, forced turnovers, etc.

Notice the performance % are not stressed, Ubell drew fouls in rebounding which enabled FT attemps, The fact that he made most is the plus versus missing them, but it was the play, the action, the position he was in that matters in the minutes.

This game was a chance for the players to see what is wrong in eachs game. In order for this team to be really good the players need to execute across the game functions according to each mans capability within his match up area.

Docs system and schemes, enable performance, performance is never guaranteed. In Docs system if the natural deficits like size miss matches are removed, than the team can find ways to maximize productivity in the minutes played. Combinations of talent enable the functions and the productivty that follows.

Ball handling, steals, passing, etc on offense and defense enable a teams smaller guys to set up the taller guys functions and vice versa.

The minutes played should always be determined by a combination of skills applied offensively and defensively. Having no capability to perform basketball functions defensively should reduce any particular players minutes in any given game, same with offense.

Whole players efforts applied within a system produces optimum performance for team results.

The players themselves need to see thier own deficits and make corrections, Diaz will learn quickly not to have 8 turnovers because his ball positioning was wrong. His offensive and defensive functions were generally good 10 rebounds is a huge plus for the team from this position...but 8 turnovers reduces his effectiveness to only +2 for ball handling.

This kind of exhibition is like Doc says, for teaching. If these players understand that Docs system makes them better players, they will learn and do better every minute they get.

Another observation about CS....in a way its good that he will sit and watch the first 15 games. I've read this morning on other threads from people who know, that his basketball IQ is high. While watching and practicing, he will get a chance to see what he must do to be a whole player, in Docs system. Respected posters at other threads are saying he has the IT factor....If he has the IT factor, he will learn to maximize his contributions to the games functions every minute he is on the court seeing his offense/defense as the same, he will Love doing the whole game thing which marks his identity with the IT factor in action.

17 points and 7 rebounds, is a good start, but within his game in this NEW system, was he a whole player?

Probably not yet.

Its apparent from the reports that his "head" is in the game, now its up to him to polish his functional performance across the minutes played.

The same can be said for Quincy and Gallegos, each has what the team needs functionaly for the positions they play.....they dont have natural deficits, so they are mostly challenged to get the mental part of the game to a higher level as whole players in this system.
