LSU vs Ole Miss

With 1:04 left, LSU gets a first down on the Ole Miss 32, and two time outs left, down by 2.

The clock runs after spotting the ball, they snap at 49 seconds, 15 seconds burned, but some of that is understandable, you don't want to panic with this much time.

1st down, long incomplete pass across the field (i.e., wasn't going to gain much), 40 seconds left.

2nd down, sack back to the 42 at 0:35, timeout called at 0:32. They burn 3 seconds, but that's probably not too bad, and they were probably expecting an incompletion or first down, and not ready to call a TO.

3rd down, swing pass, tacked for a loss to the 48 at 0:26. Final timeout called at 0:09. They burned 17 seconds. Abysmal play call, much worse clock management.

4th down, a pseudo hail Mary is caught at the 7, first down, clock stopped at 0:01. In fairness to throwing short of the end zone, the QB was about to be hit and didn't have time to let his receivers get into the end zone.

They have two choices now. Run the FG team on, or run a play. Either way your center has to snap it as soon as the ball is made ready. Verne Lundquist (announcer) is actually screaming at them to get their FG team on. LSU is disorganized, keeps their offense on the field, probably snaps it too late, and spikes it just to make absolutely certain they don't have a chance.

Afterward, Les Miles is interviewed and asked what happened. He said they tried to get their FG team out there (they didn't, that I could see), and he said they certainly didn't have time to spike it (which they did).

Les Miles blew that one. Badly. On every play, in every way.
