A shirtless man who tried to get into a funeral wake Aug. 16 and was denied entry by family members, stabbed two people before fleeing, according to a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office arrest report. One of the victims required stitches, the report said.

The attack occurred about 7 p.m. at the Regency Church of God at 1677 Southside Blvd. when the 62-year-old brother of the deceased showed up without a shirt, police said.

Another brother, 42, tried to stop him from getting in, but was stabbed in the head, police said. A 33-year-old family member then tried to get the man to put the knife down, but got slashed in the right hand and required six stitches at a clinic, police said.

The assailant drove away in a truck, but officers said they tracked him to a home on Dandy Avenue at 10:45 p.m. and arrested him on a charge of aggravated battery.

The Arlington man was being held on $35,000 bail in the Duval County jail, with a court date set for Sept. 7. Police couldn't find the knife.
